Right my mum only receives pension credits and has been applying for a free boiler. She lives in privately rented accommodation so ticks all the boxes.
SSE came and eventually after having lost her application(!) then said she would have to contribute £700!!!! Another company came and have done the assessment but not yet replied. Another energy supplier rang her and said she would get it but had to contribute £1200!
Honestly has anybody genuinely had a free boiler and only had to pay a nominal amount for say new radiators etc. To be honest, I think this whole scheme is a rip off and it is disgusting that it is getting the hopes up of people who cannot afford a boiler. I am so fed up with the liars, Bullsh*tters etc!!!
Yes plenty of people have had free boilers but nothing is going to happen for a while, there was a consultation about how this scheme works and how it will go forward which has essentially reduced the amount of funding available to installers until the out come of that consultation is released.
It was ment to be released 1st April then 1 May now mid July...
Until this happens not many people are going to get boiler installations completely free"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Thanks, I thought they were waiting until after the boiler as literally the next day SSE rang back!
I am still sceptical about it all and think the government is waiting for the election and therefore energy suppliers will wait and see if they do have to pay anything. I don't mind paying some nominla contribution but bwteen £700 and £1700 is quite frankly a rip off.Mortgage from £100,400 to currently £77,100 in 7 years:beer:

Applied to EON who sorted it all out with a Sheffield firm ( JJ Crump ) who were excellent.
I went from an 11 year old Baxi back boiler to an Ideal logic ( which is excellent ) re-sited in the old airing cupboard.
I was told nothing to contribute but decided on new double radiators in the bedrooms as the others were 30 years old which I did pay for.Mortgage from £100,400 to currently £77,100 in 7 years:beer:

Sorry if this has already been asked...
I applied through MSE and had a call back from British Gas who have booked an assessment for mid July. Is the free voucher for those who apply by 31 May or have the insulation done by that date? And how do I claim the voucher?
thanks0 -
Hi
Has anyone else had problems with British Gas getting in touch
Applied for the free insulation assessment via MSE a while ago ( two or so weeks ago ) but as yet have not heard anything0 -
I had my new free boiler fitted last week with British Gas, initially it took them 3 weeks to get back in touch after the initial request for the boiler....they said they are extremely busy with everyone applying for free boilers and loft insulation etc.... so hang on in there0

According to radio 4 you and yours a couple of weeks ago british gas have stopped accepting new applications for free boilers.
This scheme is essentially on hold until the government gives clarification to the obligated energy companies on what their new obligations are."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

I filled in the form on MSE requesting the call-back. It says they will try 10 times. The first time they called I was on the other line. I saw the 0800 number come up but wasn't expecting them to call within just a few hours of the application so ignored it. Then googled the number and realised who it was. They called again today and I was again on the other line. I dropped the other call and picked up but just got a recorded message telling me 'British Gas have tried to contact you' and telling me how to opt out of further calls.
I guess I've lost 2 of my 10 'lives' now.0 -
I've seen a number of post about free cavity wall insulation including the British Gas one currently running. The Bg one in particular says it has very few exemptions but with this scheme and all the other I have applied to our bungalow seems to be exempt as it was built in 1988. Does anyone know if there is a scheme where we would be eligible (we are not on benefits or within any other of the free criteria). Thanks.0

Hi. It would be useful if you added to your info on cavity wall insulation that properties built after 1983 were excluded. We have fallen foul of this so I've posted a note to ask if there is anyone who knows of any companies that don't apply this rule. By the way it has been vey difficult to get any companies to quote for us when we say we don't qualify and want to pay!!0
