Does anyone know if Eon provide the cheap boiler offer if your boiler is faulty but still working enough to provide hot water/central heating. I got rejected for this reason but thinking about it, it asked me this question on the online application form and let my application go through?

Hi, I'm hoping to get a boiler fitted at a low cost under the Eco 3 scheme. A few companies suggested that since I was on benefits within the last 18 months we would qualify (given a proof of benefits letter). One of them has confirmed I qualify (subject to having cavity wall insulation installed and a £400 contribution) and have offered to do a survey for me to get the ball rolling - but I can't find much out about the company - I have seen a few very bad reviews and a few good ones. I don't expect I'd get anywhere with such as eON, but I'm worried about missing out and also worried about ending up being scammed.
There are some other similar companies on the internet but most of them mention being on benefits now - my benefits ended in January.
Has anyone had experience of the company Ecosave Installations Ltd (https://www.ecosaveinstallations.co.uk/ based in Glasgow)?
Should I contact some other similar company instead, despite them asking for people who are currently on benefits? One with good reviews seems to be https://www.eclipseenergy.co.uk
Should I steer clear of all these companies - should it only be done through one of the big 6 energy companies?
Can anyone confirm that having proof of being on benefits within the last 18 months is sufficient to qualify?

We have today had a "free" boiler fitted!
Full story is that we have tried several firms without success. My DW has a long term disability and is on higher rate DLA. We do not claim any other benefits as we manage quite well on our pensions and the DLA.
We need a new boiler as ours is from 1984 and keeps failing, we do have about £1500 saved for this.
Some companies offering free boilers go through a lot of questions over several days/weeks and then say no! Reasons given are we have solid floors downstairs, we do not want an electric boiler etc.
I was waiting for British Gas new scheme to start on 1st July but when it did start they are only helping people in debt to energy companies.
So on Friday 2nd July I again looked for help, contacted several companies and almost immediately ECO3 Energy Solutions came back and asked for copies of several forms, then next day said they could fit a new boiler on Monday! I almost fell over in shock!
After discussing it with them we decided to pay an extra £1000 for them to fit a Worcester combi boiler and remove the old tanks, pumps, valves etc.
Job done today and very pleased with the installation.
So anyone looking for a replacement boiler under the ECO3 scheme I can recommend them... https://eco3energysolutions.co.uk/0 -
Has anyone else asked to be pay their eco3 contribution in advance of the install date? I've asked ecosave installations Ltd to install a boiler and cavity wall insulation (also ventilation), and my contribution is £510 (including extra for an upgraded boiler with a longer guarantee), but I'm surprised to have been asked to pay my contribution before the install date.
Can anyone advise?0 -
We paid our contribution directly to the installer by bank transfer a couple of hours after he had started the work. The paperwork stated it should be paid before work started though.0

I've been looking to find a grant to replace an old(>15yrs) oil boiler. Energy Saving trust have said although I qualify for the scheme it doesn't cover replacement of Oil boilers & offered no other grants or loans for replacement. Does anyone know if there are any schemes that support oil boiler replacement as no main connections near property to change to gas so it needs to be tanked fuel.0

Hi, my property in the Tax band Criteria, and the EPC of my property is C but expired in 2019. is it worth getting a new EPC to attain the free insulation scheme?0

Just heard back from eon (applied back in October last year) and they are unable to offer any insulation measures to us. Probably because its sold wall exterior insulation we require not cavity. And the loft etc already done. Anyone know of any providers that do offer Solid wall as an option under this scheme and hade success? EPC is band D0

Non-CIGA (Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency) Registered vs. Insurance Backed Guarantee Installer?
I've been contacted by a company called 'Effective Home' on behalf of British Gas to install cavity wall insulation. I've read some bits on here and see an installer registered with CIGA is recommended, but 'Effective Home' aren't. However they do offer a 'GDGC Insurance Backed Guarantee' (now Quality Protection) which looks genuine.
I just wondered if anyone knows if the insurance/cover offered by these two guarantees is basically the same please?0 -
i started the free insulation thing over 18 months ago and it has still not happened. Octopus has been really slow in getting this done and is blaiming too many people asking. I did it twice via the gov link, the second time i did it i got an email, the first time i didn't so i assume it didn't work.I finally got the survey at the beginning of September this year, they said we would get a decision within 2 weeks, 3 weeks later we finally got the decision "yes" after emailing them several time and was told a contractor would contact us within a week to do another survey. Nothing. We had contacted octopus many times about this and they raised a complaint for us, they want to close the complaint as it is now ongoing, but it isn't. I told them that and no reply. We had to join octopus as our previous suppler was taken over by them. They always seem good, but this issue is really making me think twice.
I looks like we will have ANOTHER winter without cavity insulation, we had been told we would have got it by LAST winter :-(
