We were offered a boiler loan in 2018 while my little boy was in treatment for cancer. He has DLA and SDP. We weren't in a good place and we explained our circumstances to the saleman, but we signed up as the "green salesman" convinced us would save money as there were no up front costs... We have been lumbered with a 10year debt of £6500 for a boiler in a property we now no longer live in and I don't know what to do. Now that I'm able to properly assess our finances as my little boy is in the final stages of treatment, I think we were missold?? We have since been advised we should only have paid around £180 subsidy for a new boiler. Can anyone help ust?0

IMPACT ENERGY Don't touch with a barge pole!
I filled in the online form to request a quote and see if we're eligible for a grant and yes we were. Received a phone call from them and supplied them with all the information that they had already taken and told I'd have to only pay £200 towards the costs, bargain.
Then when the surveyor turned up he started going on about under floor insulation had to be done as part of the deal and the cost had now gone up to £400! Oh well still cheaper than full price boiler.
We had a quote to have the boiler moved slightly costing an additional £180 per meter but only needed it moving 2 meters (wheelchair access for a disabled resident) so still not too bad.
Then it all went pear shaped!
We've not had our flooring down for too long and was wondering how they would go about taking this up to do the under floor insulation? I gave them a ring and got through to a girl called Meghan who took my details and told me someone would call me back. NOPE!
I rang again a week later and spoke to the same girl who swore blind it wasn't her who took my last call. Anyhow, she took my details again and promised me someone would get bake to me. Yet again NOPE!
At this point we decided to take the floor up ourselves as I was no furlough. So up came the skirting boards, up came the laminate flooring, up came the insulation and up came the floorboards to find that access was not able to be gained to the rest of the house from this point. I contacted them yet again and passed this information on to sweet Meghan who said it shouldn't be a problem as they do this all the time and have ways and means to access under floors. And yet again promised to have someone contact me.
2 days before they were to turn up I finally get a phone call, but only to tell me that they were not able to do the underfloor insulation without access to all the floors! Now just to change the boiler would cost in excess of £1000. Needless to say we told them where to go.
On a plus note though, reading all the negative reviews about this Impact Energy I'm glad we didn't go with them. Miss informed and miss guided from start to finish.
Minus 5 stars.
Just got to find someone now to replace all my flooring!0 -
Can't believe all these boiler scams are still going. Just get a local installer to install a bottom of the range boiler. It will work out the same as all the bogus up front fees for things that aren't required like underfloor insulation BS.0

GDADEA said:This is possibly the answer to my question re this subject. We had a company call us and offer us a free boiler - we qualify - my partner dealt with the caller and today a person came to the house and spoke to my OH about it all. He took a photo of our house deeds and obviously needed evidence of our tax credits - I was not at home and so OH couldn't find the evidence till I got home. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the company didn't leave any documentation or anything and whilst they have a webpage detailing their property business and energy business, there is little info. I felt a little suspicious - shouldn't they have left us at least a leaflet or something, or am I just being over cautious? Would they be able to scam us with copies of our benefits info? As I say, I may just be being paranoid because they are not a 'big' company.
I wonder if there is any way of checking the company is legit. It does come up on that company checker site, but I don't know if that means anything.
Hi,
Unfortunately the world and his wife has jumped on this scheme and there are a lot of companies offering to do the work, some as in all things are better than others, I have come across people who have had 5 or 6 different companies take their information (that bit is necessary BTW) but have not heard anything since. Really it is just a case of find a good one, I would say from my experience however if you find a local gas boiler fitter that is part of the scheme, they are more likely to get the boiler done, as that is when they get paid. Just my observation having recently moved from a National EPC provider doing ECO surveys to a local gas fitter. Hope this helps.
I applied for this eco grant through facebook advert and the company is called Boiler Grant. He took all my details and got me refered to a company called Efficiency Boilers which who then checked on DWP if we are entitled to the grant. Fortunately we are so they asked us to get a gas pipe installed from West&Wales which I also got a free voucher grant to pay for the installation amounting £715.
The gas pipe will be installed on August 3 and once its intalled they will book us for a survey for a free system boiler, free radiators all throughout and floor insulation.
My only worry is are they a good company/installer? Any one used them before and any feedback please?save for the rainy days0 -
Hi all,
We had someone knock on our door offering free boilers through the government Eco Flexi Scheme. After a survey, we were offered a free Ideal boiler as long as we also had underfloor insulation. We do not receive any benefits and are not in fuel poverty. The company is Simple Heating in Liverpool (we live in Leicester).
I'm concerned that the work will not be up to scratch and then that we are dealing with a company hundreds of miles away if there is a problem.
Also, they said that they would access under the floors by making s small hole in the boiler cupboard and fitters accessing through there. The hole will be tiny but the surveyor said it was doable.
Any advice please? They are scheduled to do the work on Thursday and we don't know whether to go ahead or not.

Ask yourself this, do you really need the new boiler? Do your research and don't just go for it because someone knocked on your door.0 -
Disappointed to see that although my eligibility for loft and wall insulation was accepted by Eon, they have stated they don't have any contracts in the area and couldn't give me any timescales as to whether they could do the work
going to be a cold Christmas for us.
