Hi, I currently have an application for a subsidised boiler going through with e.on. I’m worried now though as The money I had the money ready to pay the £310 (I need extra work for a condensate pipe) however a pricey car repair has wiped out my savings.

I’m just wondering if there is a payment plan available to pay the contribution?

Also, I’m looking to leave utilita, I currently have a payg (out of choice) and I have had nothing but trouble with them since signing up. I want to come back to e.on, would e.on replace my meter with a non payg one?

Hello andy3050 and sorry for the late reply - missed your post.

We'll be happy to look at changing you from a prepayment to a credit meter. There's no charge for this exchange. You will need to pass an external credit check and there can't be any unpaid debt on the meter or if it was fitted under a warrant.

If there is a debt and it's less than £500 per fuel, you can still switch to us through an industry wide arrangement called the Debt Assignment Protocol. The remaining debt will switch with you and be put on the meter to be collected at an agreed weekly rate. It's very unlikely we'll fit a credit meter in these circumstances.

It's good we've been able to help with a new boiler. Please talk to the team looking after this. They'll be happy to look if a payment arrangement is possible.

Hope this is of interest andy3050.

  • Hiya, I had a new boiler installed over a year ago, via one of the grants schemes. My landlord is now selling the house. I'm rather miffed that he will benefit from something that I arranged and he paid nothing for! Any advice please?

Did you pay anything, or was it fully funded?

Any benefit accruing to the landlord would not, in itself, be an incentive to serve notice and sell, if that's your line of thought. Meanwhile, while you continue in occupation, you benefit too.

I don't know what sort of advice would be appropriate. Even if you have paid something towards the installation, the boiler is part of the house, not something you own.
  • I have the same problem, no one will install a free boiler, I'm on pension credit and guarantee credit, my boiler is broken, don't have money to replace,, they will install one at a cost of £1200. Why are we being penalised, are we not the same as people who have natural gas? .I think it's appalling ?

I had the EON survey for a subsidised boiler, like for like replacement combi.
    12 year old non working.

I claim the required benefits to be eligible however quoted £809 with no extra work other than the included flush through,This is for the basic bottom graded Ideal boiler,An upgrade would add a further £360.So hardly a free boiler to those on very low incomes as portrayed by this scheme.Total price which I will be forced to find will be £1169 for the more reliable option with only a one year guarantee which in itself is rather meagre.Too late to look elsewhere as winter is on its way.

Cannot understand how some are getting boilers for £240.

Check on the boiler manufacturer's website and the paperwork which comes with the boiler. You may find you have a greater guarantee than 1 year on the boiler. This may be conditional on you registering the boiler on-line.
  • Just gone through an application with EON to replace my broken boiler under the ECO scheme. I was told I qualify and when the customer assistant looked to book in an assessment date she told me they don't cover my area in SE England metropolis. Really?
Perhaps the Malc (EON company rep) could tell me if that is true. Seems pretty odd for a national company not to cover my area.

Hello bazz_iiii and we're currently running several boiler replacement schemes. These include full payment, financed and subsidised schemes.

The £240 you mention sounds like the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. This is part of Affordable Warmth which provides support with home improvements including gas boiler replacements.

Customers eligible for a gas boiler replacement under Affordable Warmth agree to pay £240 towards the standard replacement of a gas boiler. We pay the remainder as part of the Government's Affordable Warmth scheme.

There may be additional extras or further work required alongside the boiler replacement. These costs are the customer's responsibility. The assessor lets the customer know how much any extras will be on completion of the free home survey.

Each application under ECO is dealt with on an individual basis. There aren't any set charges for additional work. Extra costs might apply for things like safety work, pipework, scaffolding, extra radiators etc. The assessor should've left you with a breakdown of the costs involved.

I'm unable to comment on your specific quote as this will be based on the assessor's report and the particular circumstances at your home. To discuss these costs and other aspects of the offer, please contact our Boiler Replacement Installation team (contact details are on our website). They'll be happy to go through the assessment and explain how we've arrived at the figure quoted.

Hope this points you in the right direction bazz_iiii. There's also information on our website about boiler replacements as well as other schemes like loft and cavity wall insulation.

Hello MarkDT and welcome to the Forums.

We've been re-vamping our boiler installation services in recent times. I know there are certain regions where we've yet to sort out suitable contractors and assessors. This is ongoing as we look to widen the area we cover.

It's worth having a talk to our Energy Installation Services (contact details are on our website). They'll be able to let you know where we're at with this project in your area and when we'll be able to act on your application.

    Thanks MarkDT.

  • I have recently been looking into a replacement for my old boiler and just wanted to check other people's experiences before I fully commit to something that may not be legit.

My situation is as follows, recently unemployed and claiming universal credit with my partner who is self employed but earns below any thresholds, we own a 4 bed detached house with a boiler that is easily 20+ years old.

Went to website boilergrants.org.uk who then arranged for company called the green Deal factory to make contact with me to discuss, had an initial conversation and went through details over the phone they then confirmed that would be eligible but is not free just greatly reduced and to expect a price of £900-£1400.

They sent out an inspector who measured and took photos for office to call me back to confirm what could have installed and price.

I received a phone call this morning to confirm a price of £1000 fully fitted which to me seems like a good deal considering the boiler alone would be pushing 1k and then fitting into a further couple of thousand.

Am just dubious if company is legit and that completely free boilers are no more? As I said am happy to pay 1k but if it is a company trying to get that extra when could get for free then obviously would want it free.

Anyone had any similar experiences with this company or another company?

    Many thanks in advance.
