E-ON are replacing my ancient boiler soon but they have mentioned the radiators are very old and inefficient too as they are single panel. I have MS and my house is cold, looking on EPC the rating is E, are there grants to help towards replacing the radiators or draught proofing?

Hello TerracedHouse and it's great we're able to help with a replacement boiler.

There are other ways we might be able to help too. If you qualify for support through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, there could be other funding/services available. Things like Cavity Wall and Loft insulation or help with gas central heating systems where there's no existing gas system. There's more information including an application form on our website.

We've a specialist Affordable Warmth - ECO team who look after these types of installation and it's best to talk to them for a fuller picture of what we can do to help.

    Hope this helps TerracedHouse.

Can you advise as to why there is no one in my area who can undertake a replacement boiler in my area although I am eligible for a grant and my boiler is not working? Am desperate.

Hello dibdab3 and I'm sorry we don't seem to be able to take your boiler installation forward.

Must admit, I've not come across this particular issue before. If you send details to the email address in my Profile, I'll ask the manager of that area to take a look. As much information as possible would help please.

    Thanks dibdab3.

  • Hi,

I'm looking to get Cavity wall insulation installed, however myself and partner and not in receipt of any benefits.
We live in a 1920's/1930's semi detached house, what's the best way to get this looked into?

I am currently with Eon for Dual fuel!

Hello MatthewThomas and welcome to the Forums.

Have you checked out our Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme? Although you don't receive benefits, it might still be worth having a look. There could be some help available.

There's more information on our website. You can also book a survey online.

    Hope this is of interest.

  • Hello,

So a little bit sad as it looks like any free schemes have ended for anyone not claiming benefits, I am a single full time dad who also works and not massively well off due to childcare costs.

Am I correct in that there is nothing that is done for people who are not on benefits?
  • I have just moved into a house with a floor standing thorn boiler which has subsequently been condemned and my gas supply shut off.
I dont claim benefits, are there any options for help towards a new boiler please?

I bet most of these "condemned" boilers are only because of the likes of British Gas who only use original parts and not patten parts, or other lazy engineers who can't be bothered to source parts.

I know of a boiler that is still running from the 60s as parts are still made for it by various companies. (not my boiler).

Hi There I am wondering if anyone can help please as we are wondering whether we may be entitled to any help towards a new boiler please.

My wife and I get universal credit currently as I am unemployed and she is on maternity leave for a few more months yet. Our house was built in 1945 and we moved in in 2012 but the boiler is dreadful, it is one of those with a cold water tank in the loft and the thermostat controls for the heating are ancient and all the numbers have rubbed off.

We now have a 6 month old, our first child, and we really want to update the boiler and heating ASAP to ensure her well being, the other day we went to run a bath for her but there was no hot water as we had used it during the day, it then takes a couple of hours to have hot water again.

If it helps the boiler is a Halstead Buckingham 4, that’s as much as I know about it other than it’s at the very least 10 years old.

Are there any schemes at the moment that we could look at please? Or if anyone could offer any advice then that would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance.

I would say yes - but this depends on the suppliers
