  • Hi

Just wondering I've just bought our first home and it need new boiler. Windows doors etc basically everything going to it!

I know there are alot if Grant for people claiming some sort of benefits but does anyone know of any deals available for people who don't?

    Thanks
  • Hi,

I just wondered if anyone has heard of, or had dealings with a project called Connecting Homes for Health. It is a partnership between National Energy Action, Yes Energy Solutions and Northern Gas Networks. At the moment our house is heated by solid fuel with a back boiler feeding the radiators and providing hot water. We have no gas supply whatsoever but this scheme if we are entitled would connect us to the mains gas network and provide us with a gas boiler and central heating. I have done a few searches on the internet but can not find much information on it. It does say on the letter it is a new trial. Any information gratefully received.

    Thanks.

No difference 50Twuncle. The ECO scheme is open to both E.ON and non-E.ON customers. If you're eligible under the terms of the scheme, you'll receive help towards home improvements to help you save energy. There's more information including details of qualifying benefits and an application form on our website under Affordable Warmth.

    Hope this helps 50Twuncle.

    Malc,
Does the £240 customer payment, cover pipework upgrades/replacement as well ?
If not - it would appear slightly pointless - since what is the point of supplying a replacement boiler that will not heat a home reliably ?
We have a 15 year old Worcester boiler that has been giving us grief for a few years and possibly dodgy pipework as well (unknown at present)

Hello 50Twuncle and I'm afraid not. The £240 is what eligible customers pay for the standard replacement of the gas boiler itself if theirs is broken or faulty. We'll pay the remainder as part of the Affordable Warmth scheme.

Any additional extras or further work required alongside the replacement of the boiler (pipework, upgrades etc) are down to the customer. Our assessor advises how much this will be on completion of the free home survey.

Hope this explains 50Twuncle. There's more information on our website under Affordable Warmth.

I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"
  • Hi guys, my boiler seems to be on the way out at the moment... it is 12 years old and has served a family of 6 over the years so it dont owe me anything, .. anyways, we are NOT in receipt of any benefits so will not qualify for help towards the cost?? so am looking at having to pay full price for one, ........ does anyone know of any current offers on nationally or am i better contacting a local gas man? tia
It`s nice to be important, but its more important to be nice.
The world is full of people throwing stones at us. Its what you do with them that counts. Build a wall or build a bridge.
  • How long would it take to get a boiler installed under EON's eco Affordable Warmth scheme? Pension Credit recipient. 14 year old boiler has broken so no heating at all. Would it depend upon where one lives?

Do I get a choice of brands of boiler or is it a case of 'take it or leave it' ?
  • I've tried a couple of times to get the boiler grant in the last few years. Because I live on the 5th floor of a block it would involve scaffolding. Even when I offer to pay for the scaffolding it's immediately ruled out regardless.

Unless that rule has changed in the last year or so?

    Cheers all.
  • Just had a look at the EDF website regarding energy schemes as we're buying a house that has no cavity wall insulation, min' loft insulation and an 11 year old Vokera combi boiler.
They state that your boiler has to be broken to qualify for the scheme, but looking at their timings info' they state 4-5 weeks for an assessor to come out and then another 4-5 weeks for the replacement boiler to be fitted.
If your combi boiler is broken what are you supposed to do in the meantime?
I can see that you could manage without heat if it was the warmer months, but what about hot water?
Suppose if you have an electric shower then that's OK, and washing machines are cold fill, but what about washing up, washing hands etc? Can see a lot of kettles being boiled and bottles of warm water standing in bathrooms.
Just curious as to how others who've used the system have managed.
Maybe the definition of "broken" doesn't mean completely non -functioning?

Do what people did in the 19th century. ...
They had no central heating or hot water on tap
