I do think 5 weekends away in 7 months is a lot, it would be a lot for me. I don't find weekend trips away relaxing because you have so little time there you rush to visit places or do whatever you went there to do, then when you get back on Sunday you've got the laundry to do for Monday morning and there's no time to do the weekly housework so the house is dirty for the next week. The whole thing is a big rush and I feel like I haven't had a weekend at all.

Surely you clean as you go and not just let it pile up and then tackle it all weekend?

And I don't know about you, but I don't know many people who take their work clothes on holiday with them!

If you do it a lot though you get into a routine with it. I go away for weekends a lot and I have a set of toiletries that I don't unpack and I keep other bits and pieces in my travel bag. I can honestly pack for a weekend away in less than 30 minutes whilst half asleep now! I also work full-time so do bits of housework and washing during the week as I don't want my two precious days off work to be full of chores.

You could be really radical and do the washing on Thursday.

Yes, I travel a lot and I keep an overnight bag packed with make up, toiletries, tights, and then just add into it the required clothes. For a weekend away that isn't that much.

If I ever refuse an outing on the grounds that it would throw my housework routine out of wack, I want someone to come and club me over the head with a heavy bat.

30 minutes?! My husband goes away every other weekend and he can now pack his weekend bag in less than 1 minute. He has been doing it years and years though and is a man therefore probably travels with less stuff! I can't claim to be able to pack anywhere near so fast...
  • After one minor tiff over availability, I made it quite clear to my girlfriend that my cat had an equal, if not higher, priority in or relationship as she did.

She still married me... and the cat. :p

Sounds like my OH. When we first started getting serious he told me his order of priorities was his car, his dog then me and I still stayed with him :rotfl: Thankfully once we moved in together I did move up the list :D

When I had 2 cats we went away for 3 days and left them at home with a pile of food and their water dispenser. We came back and they didn't greet us at the door, no trace of them. No food had been eaten - most unlike them as they were greedyguts with their food.

I went upstairs with the bags to unpack and found the little varmints had managed to shut themselves in the bedroom.

Luckily there was no mess! They shot downstairs and into the garden so quick, poor little things must have been absolutely bursting! They then tackled their mega food catch up.

Next time we went away I put a toddler door guard on the internal doors so no door would shut fully and a determined cat paw would easily let them through!
