  • Anyone watching BBC 1..? Some people need a slap and I don't mean the benefit people.. Interesting show though. And the one before it about food budgets... amazing what some people have to live on. Again it reminds me how much I need to get down the road and see that food bank about volunteering! Hmmmm I am off to bed soon so will check in with you all tomorrow...

I really enjoyed the budget eating programme - and felt ever so sad at the amount of money some of those people had to live on.

However, I was far less impressed with people on benefits with massive TV's, iphones, imacs etc etc. All the stuff I would love to have but can't afford - seems my taxes are paying for it for other people. There were people on there bringing home more money than we do as a household. Don't get me wrong, I did feel for some of them - but that young graduate lad needs a good kick up the backside.

Anyway, I could go on for ever and be shot down in flames no doubt, so I won't.

I've woken up feeling pretty good this morning - so I'm going to try and make the most of today. The bank balance is looking very unhealthy since I've been off work. Certainly, being at work stops me spending, because I can't just pop out to the shops like I can at the moment. Must find a bit more discipline as I'm going away with my friend and our kids in a couple of weeks and will obviously need the £300 I've budgeted for spends. If I'm not careful I'll have to break into it.

Oh the woman who thought chicken fillets were better value than a whole bird got to me!

The young chap really got under my skin too. Having a degree does not make you god's gift to the workforce, able to pick and choose whatever fantastic immediately career-advancing job you deign to do! You can't just walk into a job and yes, you still have to prove yourself when you get one. They seemed to have chosen him as the worst example of an unemployed graduate they could find.

I should not have watched that just before bed, I got all irate! :rotfl:

    Morning all!!

Lotti you crack me up! this is exactly what a colleague and I were texting each other about during the show. If someone is out of work for medical issues and redundancy and simply cannot find work then so be it.. but someone who demands to have all the finest clothing and gadgetry at the expense of others while he refuses jobs he believes are beneath him really wind me up...

When I walked out of a sales jobs ( lowest end of the sales spectrum EVER and in a gym - horrific pressure ) i walked straight into a temp agency the same day! I got work immediately envelope stuffing - the people at the place I worked told me to slow down as there wasn't a lot of work...

At one point I was working until 5pm near my house and within walking distance. I got home by 5.15pm, ate some food and was on the 5.40 train to my second job as a recpetionist.. I took home £180 a week with £100 of that being rent.. bills, food, phone, and everything else came out of the £80 that was left.. I bought nothing, went no where, shopped carefully and lived in my house..

I could go on and on and on and on but I won't.... maybe being shamed on TV has helped them all a little.. oh and the woman with all those pets...grrrr!

Moving on... I am having to spend today. My SFD count is dire but I need gluten free flour to make 24 cupcakes which will last for ages...

Bit of a baking session today when I get home (pictures WILL follow this time ) but some have to be sugar-free and vegan...

Other than that I need to also get to bed early early early.. and I mean by at least 1900... what a life!!

At least I get to ride my super duper clean and lovely bike to work tomorrow!.. YEAH!!!

    Onwards!!!!

Spent 50p on a hat for DS this morning as he has nits and needed a clean hat for nursery! Should have been £1.50 but the John Frieda conditioner is now on a price cut to 50p and the £1.50 off voucher worked! Also bought myself the DVD of In Time (starring the lovely Justin T...) for £3 so not a SFD today but well deserved treat I think after the croupy-nitty week we've had! And the hat was a necessity!

I have such a problem with his attitude!

I am a fairly recent graduate myself, I have a bachelors' degree in Engineering and an Msc in Agriculture and Environmental Science (odd combination I know, but perfect for my current employer thank goodness!). Both qualifications from high-ranking universities. I spent the year after finishing my MSc as a barmaid and market trader! Working three jobs and applying for full-time work, it did feel at times like I wasn't getting anywhere fast and I only got one interview. Thankfully, I must have done something right at that point to be here now!

There were a few weeks in that winter when I would have been better off with a regular £70 coming in than the bits and pieces I had and I did have a LOT of help from my family for living costs, however I kept my little car going (I wish it was a luxury, however to actually get to a workplace outside the village it was a neccessity), I paid some housekeeping and tried to use my non-work time doing things to keep the household budget down e.g. looking after the dog so saving dog walker fees, I got a 20% discount at the grocery stall I worked on, trader discount at a lot of the other stalls which saved a lot of grocery budget (we got some fantastic bargains from the lads on the butcher's van until the boss cottoned on and started coming on market days more often) and took over a fair bit of household work. I know it sounds a bit paltry, but it was important to me to contribute any way I could.

So this guy with his gadgets and his have-to-have-designer attitude was not my cup of tea. Top quote: "adsa is ok for women and children" eh what?!? No wonder no self-respecting company wants to hire him!

Anyway, that is enough of ranting about him! It's just frustrating to see when so many people work so hard and are prepared to take any work they can. I know I am not the exception by any means! I would also say that the skills I developed during that year have been invaluable, and I worked for some blimmin' brilliant people too, which if I'd been snooty or lazy about work, wouldn't have ever happened.

That is actually enough now! *zipped it*

Uuuhhhhh, an Asda is opening soon near us and they're planning to put an Aldi in not that far away too :T. The ones we've got in the city are on the other end of town and not worth the travel due to petrol costs. Things that excite me nowadays :p

Not an NSD, spend £2 in an antique shop (more junk shop like) on an old wooden picture frame and bought a snack.
