Sam thats brilliant news very pleased for you!

Robots - did they go through your options on what you could do next? Its odd isnt it, 1 in 30 sounds high but 3% sounds so much better.

Rummer, wow better get your skates on!

The midwife went ok, everything is perfectly average again so I didn't need to worry.

lulu - Hope the physio will help and you get an appt soon.

kerri - Ooh, exciting! Hope the contractions continue and you get to meet your little lady very soon. That is a great bump and I love the blanket, I wish I could make something like that!

claire - So far I have measured spot on but each midwife seems to have measured me differently at each appt. It makes sense that your baby will be smaller due to your frame! If they used my dates (I know exactly when I conceived) then I am actually measuring 2 weeks ahead!

Welcome mancbird! I am a newbie too :) Are you from Manchester originally? I live in South Manchester. We had a 4D can at 29 weeks and we managed to get a few good pics but I have an anterior placenta so it was quite disappointing. Cost a foutune too!

lushlivesaver - Surely they would have to squeeze you in? I can't remember but is that the appt they check for anaemia? If so maybe you could have your bloods done with your GP whilst you wait for the midwife? I feel for you re constipation - I had it in the first trimester and didn't realise how painful it could be. I had such bad cramps I had to leave work early, I was so close to ringing my midwife in panic. :o

mysecretalias - I vomitted before my scan I was that nervous. Will you find out the sex of the baby? We got the sonographer to write it in a card for us to open at our favourite restaurant later that night. She gave us a free photo and wrote a message in it too, it was lovely! Good luck with the house, we are buying our first house at the moment. Must be mad, new house, new baby!

MrsBunny and squ1rell5 - I have washed everything in non-bio but we have been given lots of second hand clothes and it just smelt 'wrong'. It now smells like us! Plus my husband has eczema so just incase the baby takes after him we washed everything.

    - Do you need IV antibiotics? Do you know which ones? Some take minutes to administer some take an hour or longer. They won't let you go home with a cannula in (a port to your vein to give IV meds) they would take it out and reinsert it when you come back. Also if you haven't had the meds before they'll be reluctant to send you home straight away.

RobotsinDisguise - 97% sounds pretty good to me. I know that doesn't stop the worry though! What are your next steps? Would you have further tests? We decided that if we needed to, we would have more testing, if only to prepare ourselves.

Rummer - Do you have an exact date? Scary but exciting too! Hope you get time to relax before the big day.

Also having a bit of a panic about my 20 week scan on the 13th (I always get panicky before my scans), not helped by me not having felt baby move at all yet :( and my other panic is that it's just hit me that OH and I have little more than 4 months left to find and buy ourselves a house before baby comes!

Argh...feeling very panicky and anxious today! Hope everyone else is ok, sorry to hear you're having a bad time Jox but I hope the hospital are treating you well x

When did you start feeling movements?

I felt movements from 17 weeks and by 20 they were a lot stronger, but there were other ladies on the thread with me who hadnt felt movement by then. If you have a placenta in a certain place it can cushion the kicks.
  • I'm hoping so Faerie! Going to call tomorrow and see what they can do. Bf is away for so many days in January and wants to get to as many appointments as possible but now they are doing Wednesday and Friday appointments I'm going to try and get a Friday one in the next 3 weeks

    So happy for you samtoby!!

Good luck rummer, you and baby will be well looked after.

mysecretalias, I remember waking up at 22 weeks to 3 big kicks, that was the first definite movement I felt. You will find somewhere to live, don't worry, probably having a deadline in mind will keep you focussed and you'll make it happen!

Robots, good for you standing up for yourself, its not the same thing but sometimes I have to tell people I am deaf in one ear so they know to speak up and talk clearly and that I'm not ignoring them if they are on the wrong side (well sometimes I am ignoring them), it's good to point things out so others can modify their behaviour. 97% is good odds I reckon. I do cry thinking about all that could be "wrong" with my baby, but if he is "special" then I will give him all the love I have to give and more. We are all special after all!

Doc came to see me and I asked if I could go to work on 6th Jan as that's when my 2 week holiday is up and she said I'll be a mum by then, I'll believe it when it happens! So maybe my little boy will be born in 2014 as planned after all!

Aww rummer and robots I'm sorry you've not had the best news today, I've no advice to give for either but you're in my thoughts x

    hope samtoby is ok x

AFM.. keep getting a sharp pain in my lower tummy this evening, quite low down and right on the far right side. I know baby is over that side, I was listening to the heartbeat earlier there. I'm 16+1, do you think this is normal? x

I'm sure it is normal, I've had stabby pains on the edges of my abdomen all the way through. Not necessarily in the same spot but if you imagine it as being what you'd guess at being t the sides of your uterus expanding, so earlier on it was in my lower abdomen mainly but now I get it under my ribs.
Don't think I've explained myself well there but sounds like growing pains to me x

Oh I asked my midwife about the anaemia thing, she said the cut off was 10.5 and I was 10.9. So Im not actually under their cut off thing but seems the dr decided to give me the tablets anyway. She said they test again at 34 weeks and it may well have gone up by then anyway.
I had a phonecall from my GP the other day to give me a prescription for iron tablets even though my haemoglobin was apparently eleven point something as my ferritin is very low. Your haemoglobin levels can be artificially/temporarily higher if you happen to have recently had high iron intake so ferritin is a better indicator of your iron levels so I would recommend asking for your ferritin to be checked next time too. (My ferritin was checked automatically because I have a history of iron deficiency anaemia but I would have asked if they hadn't offered.)

Is anyone thinking of getting a front carrier instead of a pram for their little one? I'd like to find one that supports the proper hip position (feet up in a sitting position, not hanging loose), and I'd love to get some suggestions if anyone has any. :)

Sunshine - i've had pains like that right from a few days after when i think i ovulated!

Rummer - sorry it wasn't better news, but knowing early and being able to plan must be good.

They said it's now too late for me to have the (3 random letters) test (the one where they take cord cells). This confused me as the booklet i'd been given at booking said it was an option.
And they said the specialist blood test isn't any good so isn't an option.
So it's Amniocentesis (sp?) or nothing.

Husband was sure from the start that we should have all tests that are offered. I wasn't sure about any of them (i'd love the child no matter what), but as we can't both have our options i decided to agree with him as forewarned is forearmed.
So we are booked for the Amniocentesis for next wednesday. I figure it's easier to change our minds and cancel than doing it the other way around.
Thing is, i learnt on sunday that husband does not think we could cope with a disabled child. My mental health, his work conditions and lack of family support.
Plus what support there is available is already given to a cousin who has a serious genetic issue which means he is increasingly mobility impaired and almost certainly won't live to be an adult :(. But he is an amazing kid, and a pleasure to know. And I'd never wish him not to have been born. But then again, I can't know what pain and frustrations he will be facing in his short life.:(

Thanks - actually i do think it's kind of the same thing. I have a friend who is deaf in one ear, and in many ways it is similar as i have to ask for certain things to be explained and she has to ask at certain times for things to be repeated etc. I don't like drawing attention to my comprehension/numeracy/orgaisation issues but sometimes it seems it is for the best.

and yes, i totally agree, we are all special. and i believe in the 'right to life'.... my husband believes in the right to 'quality of life'.... humm...

  • Mrs T - all being well I will definitely be a 'baby-wearer' :) But i'm afraid I don't know much about carriers, other than the sling type i can make myself.
