Stupid question coming up...the ladies that are talking about washing baby clothes - are you washing everything, even the brand new stuff that's come in packaging? I don't have a problem with doing it but is it essential? It's not even something I've thought about! I assumed if it was brand new it would be okay for baby to wear straight away??

I definitely am- my sister and others in the family have sensitive skin so have to wash their new clothes in non-bio before they're worn otherwise they come out in a rash, so I figure it's not worth risking seeing if unwashed things bring baby out in a rash.

It's not that new clothes won't have been washed at the factory, it's that you don't know what it's been washed in. Biological powder might be ok for you but baby's skin is a lot more sensitive x

Wow this thread is moving quick over Christmas!

I wash my own new clothes in non-bio before wearing as I have sensitive skin and occasional eczema flare ups, so am washing everything for baby, new and second hand. Really hoping baby inherits his Dads skin not mine!

Met with a few of the NCT girls today for lunch (5 out of 8 made it). One of the girls had her baby two weeks ago, at 36+ weeks. First of our group to pop!

I bought a 2014 diary for baby today, idea is to use it for recording feeding times (we won't have the brains to keep track if we don't write it down!) and also record milestones and events eg baby's first trip to the park, visit from great granny etc. I've then got info for a proper baby book. Obvs works best for January due dates but thought I'd share in case anyone liked the idea.

Out to see friends tonight. Have a nice evening all x

I always wash anything new even it's for me. Think of people dropping it on the floor, standing on it and all the dust and dirt in shop warehouses. I like my clothes to smell like my clothes too. Lol. ;)

Don't worry about it hun l wasn't going to wash mine either as they just all look so pretty with the tags still on and all nicely on the hangers. Maybe I will wash it just in case, well, when the nesting kicks in again. I've not even got dressed today!!

  • Hi ladies, well the news at the midwife appointment wasn't great. It was expected as they only call you in if your Nuchal test is iffy... which ours is. It's a 1 in 30 chance of downs. Or 97% chance of being fine. The actual Nuchal measurement is apparently fine, it's the 2 hormone factors in my blood which are the worrying thing :(

The midwife started sighing when i asked her to slow down and explain the numbers again (im dyslexic), so I got brave and told her my notes do say i am dyslexic, anxious and depressed. She was more accommodating after that. Though when giving bad/worrying news I'd have hoped they would have been nice from the start. Oh well.

Thank you for all of your advice.

Arf I'm back with the contractions again, they're now radiating to my back and have been since about half 5ish after I got back from walking to the post office and bank. I so don't want to get my hopes up again. I'm sure the little madam is waiting for the fireworks so she can be the first born in the new year, what a attention seeker lol. I feel bad though as one of our nct girls is now 5 days over and one who was due on the 9th had just had hers this morning 10 days early. I don't want to go telling her we might be meeting ours before her too.

Robots Well done for standing up for yourself and making her take the time to explain things clearly.

Samtoby I hope things went well today.

Well I had the news I was expecting. My boy is too large and I will be induced next week at 36 weeks.

Now I have a huge amount to do to get ready!

Aww rummer and robots I'm sorry you've not had the best news today, I've no advice to give for either but you're in my thoughts x

    hope samtoby is ok x

AFM.. keep getting a sharp pain in my lower tummy this evening, quite low down and right on the far right side. I know baby is over that side, I was listening to the heartbeat earlier there. I'm 16+1, do you think this is normal? x

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your best wishes. Was so nervous when I went in to the scan room - the scan unit itself was the newest one apprently so the image on the screen was so clear - but baby was once again not co-operating at the beginning and would not keep still!

We were in the scan room over half an hour to get all the vital measurements. I am now measuring nearer 21 weeks but she said they always leave it as what you were at 12 weeks.

Anyway....at the end of the scan she asked if we wanted to know the sex which we said we did. She got a great position for looking between the legs and told us it was a little girl.....I cried. I never thought I would have a little girl and the emotions just took over me. So I asked how she knew......so she said I will show you. She brought up the legs and said 'see those two lines that is the lips'.......'and see that little cherry there? - that is the clitoris' I laughed and my partner looked away really shyly - I don't think we expected to see our daughters sexual parts at 20 weeks old!

Needless to say we went straight to Gap nearby and bought some pink things. It feels real now. I am going to be a Mummy to a little girl :)
