Claire - please try not to worry. I've had 5 additional scans since I moved to Bristol because my MW can't use a tape measure and has been measuring me -6cm out each time. Every scan they say baby is growing perfectly and that the MW should be realising that because I'm not a huge person that I'd be measuring smaller than average. Just look at it as an opportunity to see and bond with your baby. It's incredibly frustrating though and really not an exact science at all. I think what they are meant to do is look at whether you've grown between appointments and go from there as to whether to have extra scans, but mine seems hell bent on sending people regardless. Really hoping little one comes before Thursday or she'll probably send me again!

  • I'm another one who hasn't been measured at all; haven't even managed to speak to the same midwife twice never mind have an appointment with them more than once!

I have booked my next appointment - I think it's supposed to be my 28wk one which should have meant it was next week but apparently they couldn't fit me in until the 2nd week of Feb?! As that's 7 weeks away, and therefore 6 weeks late (!) I'm hoping if I call up to change it they may have one closer to mid/late January when bf is around.

I'm another one who is experiencing breathlessness quite frequently although I suspect I'm anaemic and my bp had dropped considerably at my last midwife appointment (she didn't seem too bothered though!)

I'm also getting stitch like pains towards the middle of my abdomen when I'm walking so trying to slow myself down from my usual mad hatters pace to a gentle stroll (not so easy for me!)

I'm beginning to get stressed about my weight gains again. I know I keep telling myself not to worry as I can always go back to following SW much more strictly post birth etc and I really need to stop weighing myself but I just can't do either at the minute :/ I think a lot of it is water though as I am getting dehydrated so easily I can tell my body is holding extra fluids back plus I'm still constipated so I guess there's a couple of small contributing factors! each midwife I've seen has been hesitant to suggest I try anything different to what I've already been doing/suggest anything I could take for it though which is frustrating when I hear others have had a bit more support for it!

Between that and the painful trapped wind every so often I'm up for trying anything new!

Bf is dying with a cold/man flu so I've been and bought a vaporiser to try him with and whilst I was in Boots I decided to 'treat' us to two of the baby clothes items I've been wanting which are now in the sale. A gorgeous red dress down from £20 to £10 and a little set of vest, sleep suit/baby grow and bib that says 'mummy and daddy love me' on which was down to £5 :)

Mancbird - You're more than welcome to join us over here we're a friendly bunch here. I've never heard of a hospital not telling you at a 20 week scan unless they weren't able to see? Although l have to admit it does scare me that they have got it wrong lol though its pretty impossible as she stuck her bum in the air :rotfl:
Anyhoo pull up a chair and get comfy lol

    B xx

My local hospital is Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and their policy is not to tell the gender at 20 weeks. There are signs all over the waiting rooms advising parents of this. The official reason is that they "can't tell" at 20 weeks, which means they are practically the only hospital in the country who can't tell at this stage (the private scanning place down the road can tell from 16 weeks).

However, if you'd like to pay the hospital £50 (plus £5 per photo) you can go back for an additional scan at 23 weeks and find out the sex. It's just a moneymaking scheme :( Our scan pictures are £5 each or £10 for three identical images (unless you get a lovely sonographer like we did who gave us lots of different ones ;) )

We are going to Babyvision at Upton Magna in the next couple of weeks and having a 4d scan. They are cheaper than the hospital as their gender scan prices start at £45 and include pictures. We did the same with our son and got some amazing pictures, a CDROM and a DVD for about £120 :)

  • Claire, try not to worry about the measurements. My friend who has just had a baby had something similar - went for an extra growth scan and all was fine. Baby was measuring a little small, but then she was never big in the first place. She actually caught up after a few weeks - sometimes baby just needs a rest from growing and will probably be up to speed when shes ready!
I never understand the measurements thing - I know girls who have been 9 months pregnant and havent looked any different since day 1 - and they've given birth to healthy 6/7 lb babies!!
The last couple of days I have looked huge - but baby must have moved position last night as just before I went to bed, my stomach looked really flat and I didnt even feel pregnant at all - if I'd been measured last night, I think there'd be a drastic difference to what it would have been yesterday morning. There are so many changing factors!!
Id definitely take the opportunity to have another scan though - would be lovely to see little one on the screen again before she arrives into the big wide world.

A few pictures for you ladies...here's my latest bump photo from yesterday, I look like I've swallowed a basketball!!!Here's the finished baby blanket :) and I'm just finishing the binding on the quilt before I post a photo of that one :) Cramping has subsided, so I'm going to go out for a walk with or without OH to see if I can get things moving again.

  • Thank you for adding me to the list, bigzippy :)

Hope tomorrow goes well for you samtoby and Rummer :)

I am currently at work trying not to fall asleep at my desk, calculated that I have 85 days left in the office until my maternity leave starts though not sure I'm going to make it until then if I am already struggling to stay awake the whole day now!

Also having a bit of a panic about my 20 week scan on the 13th (I always get panicky before my scans), not helped by me not having felt baby move at all yet :( and my other panic is that it's just hit me that OH and I have little more than 4 months left to find and buy ourselves a house before baby comes!

Argh...feeling very panicky and anxious today! Hope everyone else is ok, sorry to hear you're having a bad time Jox but I hope the hospital are treating you well x

Kynthia - I'm worried that because we're doing hypnobirthing that I'll be able to talk to the MW on the phone and they'll tell me I can't be ready yet. So at least I'll be able to say "you say that but I'm x-cm dilated...are you sure"...ever the hopeful with this hypnobirthing malarky ;)

I had that problem, kerri! My contractions started on the Thurs lunchtime and by Fri evening they were pretty strong and uncomfortable but still irregular. I phoned the labour ward three times and each time my contractions stopped and I was able to talk calmly to the midwife!

In the end, I just knew things were happening so I lied and said my contractions were closer together than they actually were and told them I wanted to come in to be checked. I ended up sitting in the waiting room for over two hours before they discovered I was 7cm dilated!

On my hospital notes, it mentioned several times that I was talking through my contractions!
  • I think that since I posted about feeling fewer movements a while back that little girl has gone in to overdrive/is over her probably growth spurt. Currently I think she is pushing me just below my ribcage on the right hand side :/ Lovely feeling but ever so distracting....not that I've got much done anyway

    afternoon ladies,

well I slept like a log last night....at long last! I wanted to be out the house by 10am this morning, DH woke me with a brew at 11am!! I was so happy I slept and I feel sooooooooooo much better for it. Only problem is now, I will prob not sleep tonight!

went to asda earlier to get items for my hospital bag...really struggled walking around the shop, wanted to do a food shop too but had to come home, DH was happy enough as he hates food shopping. Glad I got what I needed for my bag though as I want it packed by the end of the week. DH is convince this baby will come early, though I think he may be late!!

this afternoon I have been cleaning the babies room and sorting out the clothes as I have had many hand me downs. The first wash of the clothes is currently on, looks like I have 4-5 wash loads to do! And that isn't including the 'new' clothes - have you been washing new clothes? not sure whether to or not as I do not wash new clothes before I wear them, ooh I don't know what to do!! Heart says wash them, head says why!

Right, Mary Poppins is on, loved that film as a child so am watching it with my feet up and a brew.
