Kerri sheer nosyness makes me want to know if I'm dilated etc at all... but my 41 inch :eek::eek: "waist" makes finding out a logistical nightmare!0

OMG Kynthia - I wouldn't feel nice and relaxed if I were at home till 6-7cm without pain relief. I went to hospital at 5cm doubled up in pain!
Lol, she did say that was the ideal but most of us won't have 'ideal' labours, and that we should listen to our bodies and go in when the pain was more than we could manage. I'm sure it meant that now my hubbie won't pester me to go in when I get my first twinge.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
TL I had the same thing with my sister - when she went back to Canada in October she said 'bye! The next time I see you guys you'll have a kid!'
Me & DH were like omg we will! We just hadn't thought about it like that! She's coming over in April.0 -

When my friend rang her hospital they said something along the lines of if you can talk on the phone you're not ready! I think a few hours later her husband rang and they made him put her on, she couldn't talk properly so then they said ok you can come in now!
Sounded very scientific :rotfl:0 -
I have got the midwife in an hour, I always feel nervous before I go incase anything is wrong. It never is but I still get butterflies before my appointment! I struggle to do a urine sample too when I am nervous
I haven't seen the same midwife twice - I've seen 6 different ones so far, I'm jealous of those of you that have your own midwife.
Good news on the house front; our solicitor has all the paperwork so we can go and sign the documents later this week! We should be in before the baby makes his arrival!
Plus only 2 shifts left at work, 14 hour shifts but hey, 2 shifts left!0 -
Hello ladies - how are we all?
I've had a lovely Xmas, had 9 days off and had Xmas day with the inlaws which was lovely. First day back at work today which is a bit of a shock to the system, but I'm consoling myself with the fact that I only have 2 months before I start my maternity leave. I've been having really bad back ache lately, quite high up near my shoulder blade and only on one side which is odd. I went to the dr on Fri and he's referring me for urgent physio. I initially thought it was just another pregnancy symptom but I literally can't do anything but lie flat on my back when it gets bad - and that's impossible at work!
I'm actually glad that Xmas is over because now I can concentrate on baby stuff! We're going to leave the walls magnolia and hopefully get some removable stickers and bright curtains but haven't started looking yet.
Birdie - I plan to do our wedding scrapbook on my maternity leave (we got married 2 1/2 years ago)...
Claire - I hope you're not feeling queasy any more. I am paranoid about getting nauseous/sick again. I have to have a GTT which involves fasting and am not sure if I can do it. I have to eat first thing as feeling hungry makes me throw up. It's really worrying me, but I haven't had the appt through yet. Have the midwife next week so will ask about it then.
Rummer - good luck for today
Kerri - fingers crossed things will start up again for you - it's very exciting!
Jox - you sound a bit happier, hope you're doing ok and keeping your spirits up. Re the private room I'd love a private room for peace and quiet but am so nosy I would miss seeing the comings and goings on the ward!
Oh, and just to add, I think I have the sleep fairy hostage, sorry. After months of sleepless nights I am starting to sleep through (apart from the getting up for a loo in the middle of the night, but I can cope with that).0 -
Aw MPM - you can get your OH to check if you dare, I won't let mine check, haven't even asked him although I'm sure he would oblige. He's still freaked out that we're about to have a baby.
Kynthia - I'm worried that because we're doing hypnobirthing that I'll be able to talk to the MW on the phone and they'll tell me I can't be ready yet. So at least I'll be able to say "you say that but I'm x-cm dilated...are you sure"...ever the hopeful with this hypnobirthing malarky
Faerie - hope the MW goes ok for you. I would gladly have 6 different midwives, at least one of them should be able to use a blinking tape measure! My one measured one of our NCT girls wrong last week and sent her for a scan at 40w! Madness. Congrats on the house
The slight period cramping pain is back, mostly on the left side now. I have a feeling this is going to go on for days although stomach still does seem to be going solid so I must be contracting again, little madame! My aim for the day is to stay as upright as possible to encourage her and my dilation. I bet she's born on her due date which means 3 days more of this frustration. The weather has perked up so I might get OH to come for a walk with me later on.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Ive just read this post through googling which has helped a bit
http://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/pregnancy-64/netmums-52/702048-fundal-height-measuring-small-all.html
Basically my appt went fine, but the midwife at first seemed a bit concerned at the fundal measurement. It was 25cm and Im according to LMP, 28 + 1. She said its supposed to be within 3cm, which it was, but she said if it had been 1cm less she would have sent me for a scan.
I said to her, well Im actually 27+2 its just that because the hospital have that policy of only redating you if you are more than 7 days out, and Im 6, I am 28+1 but I know Im really not.
So then she said, ok in that case thats fine then as youre 2cm away and as its supposed to be within 3 thats ok. But she said when you see the GP at 31 weeks, make sure that the measurement is within the 3cm, and if it isnt and then gp doesnt send you for a scan then remember you can call me or ring triage if you have any problems and noted the number to me. I could tell when she went quiet and was writing stuff down she was deciding what to do. She also said that because of my history thats why she was thinking of me maybe getting another scan - so perhaps if I hadnt had the bleeding etc she wouldnt have said anything.
So now I just feel really worried & paranoid and quite frankly want to just burst into tears, even though I know that Im only just over 27 weeks so measuring 25 should be fine.
At my last appt I was 25+ 3 (although 6 days less with my dates) and I measured 24.5 looking at my notes, so it does concern me that theres only been a 0.5cm growth but then I find that hard to believe, considering in the past few weeks my belly button has gone from being in to starting to stick out and the babys movements have got much bigger and wider ranging.
She said she estimates the baby will be a 6lber, and I said well I was 5'14'' and she said well that makes sense. Then she started just talking about other stuff and didnt seem worried at all.
I just was not expecting this.Im supposed to be going shopping with my mum in 30 mins to look at prams and just feel really upset.0 -
Claire I've just read that being small in stature, or having well conditioned stomach muscles can account for small fundal measurement, or it can be a small, healthy baby.
If this is going to play on your mind and upset you ask for some investigating to make it isn't down to anything else to put your mind at ease, hugs0 -

Please try not to worry too much I know that's easier said than done! The measuring the bump thing is not an exact science and depends on all sorts of things, position of the baby, the way each midwife does it, how you are lying down, the amount of water, your body weight and distribution...all sorts of things, the important thing is that the bump and therefore baby gets bigger at a constant rate.0
