The 'special needs feeder' was recommended on the Baby Whisperer to everyone lol. Particularly tongue tired babies actually. I think you can turn the bottle slightly to adjust the flow on them too, dependant on your baby's age/stage. They're so expensive though

What's the Baby Whisperer? Is that the TV programme?
  • just nipping on to say good luck to SamToby today :) Looking forward to hearing all about it xx

    Good luck Sam.

Kynthia don't worry about the paracetamol I would think it would have been better to take that than have a high temperature.

Plus like you say who knows what people were really admitting!
And yes it may be that your ailments were just more obvious in a physical way. But I think you are sensible to ask your mum & DH to keep an eye on you. I think loss of control is definitely something that could trip some of us up.
  • Samtoby- thinking of you today, hope all goes well :)

Kerri- how exciting! Hope it all goes quickly for you now :)

Jox - how are you today? Is it because your baby might be small that you're in hospitals or was it reduced movements too? Sorry my baby brain can't remember.

Rummer - that must be worrying that your baby could be induced at any time after each appt. Hope you manage to keep the little one in as long as poss.

AFM - I've been getting a really heavy feeling in my groin. Baby is so low but it's def not the head going down as he's breech at the mo. He keeps kicking me really low down. The past couple of nights I've been getting period type backache cramps - nothing like as painful as labour so I'm wondering whether this is just a variant of BH?

Exciting stuff Kerri, hope this is it! :)

Good luck for your scan Sam. :)

I'm still waiting for my nesting instinct to kick in... although maybe it's not happened because OH has already been through his manic nesting thing and there's nothing left to sort out! ;) I do need to wash all of the baby's first clothes though, will do that next week, love seeing all of the tiny things hanging up to dry, our flat looks like the cutest Chinese laundry ever when we've got baby stuff hung up all over! :)

Kynthia, try not to worry too much. Pregnancy and motherhood aren't a competition and it's not something you can 'win'! We're all going to deal with it differently so never think that you're failing. OH is going to be on PND watch with me from the start, we've already discussed the likelihood of it happening but the good thing is that we're kind of expecting it so should be able to deal with it in a pro-active way. :o

Glad you got some sleep BZ! I so wish we had somewhere I could send my OH on a night so I could have the bed to myself! :o I'm always the one heading off to the sofa where I wake up with a sore neck and back because it's too small. Why can't he be the one to go to the living room sometimes?! :p I did ask him if he could leave the bed when he knows I'm not sleeping and it's keeping him awake and he said 'Oh, I can't sleep anywhere but in bed so I might as well stay put'... Grrrr, it's not for his benefit, it's for mine! :p
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Good luck to kerri and sam :)

Faithhope, they're keeping me in cos placenta is over the cervix and im at risk of bleeding, they have 4 bags of blood on standby for me, drama! Plus reduced movements, small baby, CMV (hopefully not too much of an issue now since it might be an old infection), reduced amniotic fluid, oh I'm a catalogue of disasters as normal!
I'm sure you're feeling BH, but call maternity triage / midwife if anything is worrying you. I have been surrounded with ladies with all sorts of problems with their pregnancies these past 9 days and we have all been very well looked after and everything we say is listened to and taken seriously. Doctors are coming round soon, I've been handed my bran flakes and cup of tea, I'm getting too used to this service now :)

    Good luck Sam.

Kerri, how are you doing this morning? My NCT teacher was telling us about trying to stay home where it's nicer and more relaxed until your 6-7cm. It's just a shame you can't know your dilation yourself before leaving home.

Bambisbelle, your crazy cleaning decisions made me laugh. Why a damp cloth for the floor and not a mop? Is that natures way of getting you on all fours, a good labour position? :)

Claire, thanks. I do think pnd is something we should all mention to our partners and talk about with each other. I think it will be less of a shock if we acknowledge the possibility beforehand, and I wonder whether being older, and therefore more used to my quiet and organised life, will make the chaos harder to take. Even not working for a year is hard to get my head around, even though I'm looking forward to it. :)

Bigzippy, thanks again for the useful post and links. My parents will be buying us an Uppababy Vista and related car seat, and we have a donated Moses basket and crib. Therefore sleeping and travelling will be sorted, although I need to sort new mattresses and bedding. Apart from a few bottles I'll hold off on other feeding items for now, although what sterilisation methods do people prefer? I like your thoughts about the nappies as we want to use reusables too but they're a large upfront cost and some people have trouble using them on newborns. I think we will focus on clothes, smaller items and maybe a mat and bouncer today. Now we just need to find nice stuff that's team yellow. :)
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
  • Goodluck Samtoby with your scan

How exciting Kerri - hoping this is it for you and won't be too long till your baby is in your arms!

Hope your okay Jox, sounds like you've had a lot going on, but at least your in the best place. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that the baby holds off a little longer.

Thanks for the essentials list BigZippy. I have been searching aroun for these but they are all so different. Your list was kind of what I was thinking of:)

Will check back later for updates x

:( I am still pregnant!! It all started to calm down about midnight and by 1am not even a twinge. I was so hopeful as well and today it's bucketing down so no walk for us unless the weather improves. I have lost some of my mucus plug though so not all for nothing. Finished baby's blanket last night, so quilt and mobile to do today.best keep busy

Kynthia - it is possible to check your dilation yourself or get your partner to check for you. I'm about 2cm and almost fully effaced now. I know it's not for everyone but I've found it quite empowering to know, especially as I have no faith in my midwife as after talking to other women in the area I've got the most incompetent one
