I've been practicing my hypnobirthing for the past 2hrs, I'm having some seemingly regular braxton hicks although nod painful they are uncomfortable and feel different to usual. Not trying to get my hopes up too much in case it's a false alarm but the walk is probably to blame I reckon.

Me again, just want to say that when I'm hooked up to the monitor twice a day for baby's heart and contractions, when I lie down the contractions measure 6 to 10 and when I've had enough of lying down or sitting down after half an hour and stand up for 10 minutes the contractions increase to about 30. Apparently during labour the contractions can go up to 80 or 100. I was walking a lot throughout the whole pregnancy but now that I am "confined" to hospital my bump has got quite a bit bigger so maybe I should have taken it easier but as the breadwinner that wasn't an option, oh well!
  • Hi everyone

Not had much time to reply to any posts. Still have a houseful of people but it's all good :)

Re Moses baskets v cradles - if you are hoping to have 2 or 3 children it makes the cradle a better buy if you divide the price by 2 or 3. Or if you have rellies who want to buy one of your big items, they could get a cradle. I've got a cradle and it has been used for DD1, DD2, their 2 cousins and will be used for DS and possibly passed on if any other family/friends need it. :) in saying that, even tho it is a decent size it still only lasted till about 4/5mths but luckily we have space for a cot in our room. I like the cradle cos it can rock and also has good air circulation. I was a bit para and kept DD2 in our room till she was 1! :o

Welcome Samtoby. I totally understand being worried about 20wk scan. Think I will only stop worrying when I am handed a healthy baby! I need to take a pee sample to every appt so probs best you take one just in case. You shouldn't need a full bladder for 20wk scan. I am having fortnightly appts and scans every 4 wks and it's still hard not to worry a bit in between. This little monkey keeps being really quiet during the day and comes to life at night. Could relax more if he moved constantly.

Squirrel - I got a single door wardrobe from 1kea and a taller (same width as normal height) chest of drawers to match. Worked out the best solution for us and the most adaptable space inside the wardrobe

Becca I had breathlessness around the same time too. Although I now know I was anaemic at the time (they do a standard blood test at 28wks - not sure how many weeks you are?) too, it's been much better since the baby has head engaged and dropped down.

Jox, hope the baby behaves themselves and you can keep him/her in longer than they expect. Good news about the CMV :)

Kynthia - if noone else has posted one yet (I'm catching up while typing) I think I have some links saved on my phone for "essentials" lists. Of course, the "essentials" are always debateable, but I can post them regardless and you can make your own mind up. :)

I think the Medela swing electric pump is the most popular choice I've seen mentioned (and there are offers relatively often) and would be the one I think I'd plump for if I managed to breastfeed and pumping seemed feasible, but I'm not forking out until after baby is here and I know how it's going.

I think baby monitors are a personal preference - some don't see the point in the video ones (or any at all!) while others swear by them. I think so long as it has the functions you like the sound of, and isn't likely to clash with the frequencies in your home (more of a problem with the old style than the digital ones I think) then whatever you pick would be fine? Again, as the baby will be in with us for a while, I'm not going to get one until I see what we want from it at the time/what we've been given as gifts/money. I did get an old Fisher Price/Tomy (can't remember which) one in an ebay bundle that I was getting for the swaddle wraps though, which does work, so I do have a backup if I need one/to take away to grandparents if we wanted to.

Bottles - having seen the Baby Whisperer show, I'm drawn to the Medela (Haberman feeder) bottles as the logic behind the design of them makes the most sense to me, especially as an accompaniment to breastfeeding (hoping to combination feed with expressing but open to all possibilities atm). I think my second choice would be Dr Browns, or maybe the Mam ones - though they're none of them cheap options.

Again though, I haven't bought any in advance, and baby will be here when the January Baby Events are on so I can look out for deals at the time if I need any of this stuff more immediately.

If I was to bottle feed with formula, the Perfect Prep machine does look like something I'd use - especially upstairs for night feeds as I struggle with the stairs anyway (mobility issues) but I'm not as keen on the TT bottles (see above).

Don't beat yourself up about being "the worst link" - you can see on here that there are others suffering too ;) I've not even been to classes, in part because I couldn't cope with sitting there for 6 hours! :)

Rummer, good luck with your appointment tomorrow. Hope baby behaves and you can keep incubating a little longer :)

Twigpig  do you want adding to the list? I've not seen you post anywhere since you reached 24wks I don't think..? Just seen your post requesting adding :p

Con I forgot to say, I like the stars one :)

AFM: I was still awake at 4am, when I then shouted "SHUT UP!" at poor DH who was finally getting a fairly decent night's sleep (I'm not sure what his infractions were, besides breathing ;)). After a bit of a sob and some mid-night snacking, he went to sleep on the couch and I got 5-6 hours in a nice big empty king size bed. Phew. Hoping I get to sleep earlier tonight though, I have an appointment for my hair to be done tomorrow at midday - last one til I have a newborn though!

Bigzippy, I'm expressing as my eight week old little boy was tongue tied and has never really got the hang of breastfeeding. I'm using a Medela Swing breastpump. I've got two pumps – picked up for £60–70 from Toys R Us and Amazon.

We started off with Tommee Tippee bottles but didn't really get on with them. The Medela Calma bottles are much better and baby has to work harder for the milk. My little boy guzzles the milk and dribbles quite a lot with those though.

We've just discovered Haberman Suckle Feeder bottles (£7.50 in Boots), which have slowed down my baby but a bit too much as he takes an hour to feed now and falls asleep! He doesn't dribble though!
  • Big zippy you don't have to use tommee tippee bottles with the perfect prep. The bottle stand moves to accommodate other makes of bottle.

Thanks, this was the impression I was given from seeing and reading about the Medela Haberman (special need?) feeder bottles, and then we saw the Haberman (direct) bottles at the baby show we went to about 4months ago, so it's nice to have it somewhat confirmed. :) Well done on al the expressing, it's gotta be hard work! :T

Thanks, I've seen that too, although was given the impression that the Medela bottles were maybe too tall for it?? Anyone have any experience on that?

Thanks mincepiemonster and kynthia I am looking forward to wearing a couple of the items tomorrow!

bigzippy - I used Dr Browns with DS when I bottle fed and was really impressed with them. They are really expensive though.

faithhope - I am going to not do one and I will have a good fill up on fluids before the scan (not too much) and then do one if needs be. I am worried but its tomorrow now so its not far away.

Jox - I do hope you get a good nights sleep or best that you can. Not so good telling you, you have an infection then you don't. Thats not very kind at all when your in hospital.

kerri_dfw - sounds like something might be starting!

twigpig - don't know if I missed it on the other thread or here but did your additional scan go ok?

Rummer - hope it goes ok tomorrow.

Ah kynthia, you won't struggle after the birth and there's no need to compare yourself to anyone else, every pregnancy is different.
Well done perceptive ladies noticing I am more upbeat, I was very worried that the CMV was a new infection as it can cause hearing, sight and learning problems, but I've been told it is an old infection (only took them more than a week to get this information to me!) so shouldn't affect baby but I guess he and I arent in the clear yet.

Jox, I'm so pleased to see you more positive and that the infection is old news.

I know that there are others with much more severe complications than me which is why I was surprised at my reaction. I think I'll let my hubbie and mum know to keep an eye on me after the birth just in case I mentally struggle with not 'achieving', as life isn't perfect with a newborn, and then stop worrying about it. The main things are the group seemed lovely, hubbie and I learnt a lot, and hubbie seemed to enjoy it and feel that he might get on with some of the guys. As hubbie will be new to the area it would be great for him to make friends there.

BigZippy, any links to essentials to have would be great. It's hard to know whether to buy a breast pump when I don't know how successful I'll be at breast feeding, and I don't want to buy the formula prep machine in case I do well at the breast feeding. So I figure I'll buy about 6 bottles that can be used either way and then see what happens. I'm thinking I need a bouncer, mat, bedding and clothes too. I'm assuming the cot bed, monitor and high chair can wait a while. I guess the nursery decorations can wait until the house completes.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
