Random comment... my belly button is getting stretchmarks around it and it seems to have doubled in width... I'm being stretched!!
Thanks, it is quite wide, but the wheels pop off easily to fit in the boot. Also the carrycot seems really deep and cosy looking for a newborn and it is super easy to fold and put up. So far it is looking as if we will go for it.0 -
I did hypnobirthing when I was pregnant recently. I was a bit sceptical and didn't practice all the exercises as much as I should have but I definitely feel it helped.
I'm not sure I ever got into a proper trance-like state but the breathing exercises were really useful and helped me get through my contractions. I was 7cm dilated by the time I got to hospital and went straight into the birthing pool. I played my Steven Halpern hypnobirthing music, which helped to relax me. Probably too much as things stalled and I got stuck at 8–9cm dilated! I had to go to the delivery suite and ended up with forceps after two hours of pushing but my baby was back to back.
Overall, the hypnobirthing classes made me and my husband feel a lot more confident about the whole labour process and we knew what to expect. We also did NCT and NHS classes too.0 -
Thanks Locky it is interesting how you found hypnobirthing. I had a quick flick through the book and I seemed to be drawn to a section about nipple stimulation in labour. Apprently Midwives will completly understand if you and your birthing partner want the professionals to leave whilst you spend time stimulating your nipples to help the labour on.
I am not sure about that bit for me, but the rest looks really good, especially the breathing exersizes.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

I don't feel like such an old lady now reading all of your NYE plans!
We had planned on going out for a meal and going to watch the fireworks in town but we could only get a table for 9pm so we may deicde not to bother!
Going to get something nice in just in case we decide to have a PJ night instead. We usually have parties/go to friends so this will be a change this year.
Becca, I was really breathless during the first trimester, it got better and now it's worse again!I'm officially a snorer now too... poor OH! He said he was talking to me the other night and congratulating me on how noisy I was, I slept right through! I'm just so glad he didn't wake me up because if I'm snoring it means I'm actually getting some sleep!
Glad you're doing well Jox, nice to know baby is behaving and staying put! Glad you're being looked after so well too.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
I fell in love with the quinny buzz today while out and about looking at prams, but just had a nosy at the mamas and papas zoom and that's lovely too! hmm decisions
I don't have much choice as I only drive a ford ka, ie tiny boot, which makes me fancy the quinny buzz

Last New Year's Eve we went to pizza express for an early tea (it was so quiet we ended up getting loads of freebies!). We're probably going to do the same this year but probably won't be as lucky! Well then come home to a few nibbles, some non alcoholic mulled wine and jools holland! Some of my hubby's friends are in the audience so were going to look out for them! (Must have been weird for them as it was filmed about a month ago and they has to pretend it was nye and do the whole countdown thing!)0

I so need to buy some storage for our nursery. We've painted and put a new floor down, and the cot is set up in there albeit with no mattress! But we are fast accumulating loads of toys and clothes and have no where to put them! They're in the cot at the moment but need to find some drawers or a wardrobe. It's only a tiny room so not much space so need something practical! Does any one have any good suggestions for a small space?0

Re: hypnobirthing - we've done a course and been practicing loads.best thing I've every learnt is how to relax my face, the rest of your body follows suit and is an amazing way to relax quickly.i shall report back after the birth as to whether it worked for us or not. I've been using the techniques with my BH and thinking to myself "discomfort" rather than "pain" which is possibly why I forget to time the bh even when they seem to be coming quitea bit.
Still on my phone but will catch up properly later as I'm shattered after a 5+ mile walk today which was lots of discomfort in the pelvic area as it's definitely helped baby drop down a little further. Lots of BH this evening too so will finish her blanket whilst watching a film i think.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Becca - breathlessness is common due to the extra work, blood and less room for lungs to expand. However it can also be a symptom of anaemia and maybe even other things I don't know about so definitely worth a call or visit to the midwife.
Nice to hear everyone's new year plans as I worried that I was ruining it for my OH even though we don't usually do anything. We'll probably go round my parents house, along with my sis, her boyfriend and her children. It's nice as we play board games, have M&S party treats and a cheese board, then toast champagne at midnight.
Sam - you lucky thing, I would love for someone to pass on a load of maternity clothes to me.....especially good quality ones. She clearly can't be bothered to ebay them and the fact she personally dropped them off to you means she really wants someone she knows to benefit from and enjoy them.
Cllola - my NCT teacher said she thinks highly of hypnobirthing and the theory behind it, but she was wary of any classes that make women feel guilty if they end up having pain relief.
Jox - your posts sound so much better than at the beginning of the week, I hope that means you are feeling well in yourself? Well done for coping with being in hospital this long as I don't think it's easy at all. Although a room on your own sounds great for sleeping, I think it can be very boring and isolating during the day. Like most things in life, there are advantages and disadvantages.
Smartcat04 - I feel your pain. Sitting in an upright chair at the NCT class today set off my PGP badly. Now even though I've been at home a while I'm beside myself as there is no position I can sit or lay in that doesn't build pressure in my pelvis. I've made myself quite nauseous too with all the frantic repositioning. I usually feel like I've been kicked in each buttock.
Locky - that's a shame that you needed forceps when you hadn't even had any pain relief. You hear so much about opiates and epidurals increasing your chances of forceps and ventouse that you almost forget that you might need them anyway.
Squ1rrel - have you seen those 'under the cot' storage draws as I'd imagine that's a good use of space. Also I seem to remember that IKEA does toy hammocks that you can hang in the corner of the room to hold lots of soft toys. Actually IKEA are great for storage ideas so maybe have a look at their website.
AFM - hubbie and I are going sales shopping tomorrow for baby things. I know this was probably covered in the earlier thread but does anyone have a list of essential items to get, or a link? I don't want to buy more than necessary when we don't have the house yet but I do want the essentials and anything else that's a very good price. Also are there any brand/product recommendations for certain items as I remember many people saying they'd researched baby monitors, bottles, pumps, etc? I also remember a lot of people saying they wanted the Tommy Tippee formula prep machine.
I really enjoyed my NCT class today, although 7 hours was tiring. The great thing was my OH enjoyed it too! Everyone seemed really lovely and I hope to make friends with some of them. We learnt a lot too. I was the least pregnant there, although I was only a week and a week and a day behind two other couples so not much really. I'm sure Feb being a short month made it seem like more of a gap. What REALLY disappointed me was that I seemed like the weak link in the class. I was the only one in agony with the chairs, the only one wearing a support belt, the only one who couldn't do some of the exercises because of my physio's advice, and the only one who's hubbie had to go into another room and steal the IKEA poang chair for them to sit on for the rest of the day. I'd convinced myself that there were many other pregnant women suffering PGP worse than me but today I felt like a 'special case' when I was the least pregnant.Silly I know.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Mrs Bunny, sorry you're still having sleep problems. Sounds very frustrating.
Sam how lovely of your friend-of-a-friend; one of my friends had a baby in August so I was able to lend her my clothes from DD, and she has lent me her clothes now she's skinny again!
Jox pleased to hear you sounding so upbeat. I used to be a nurse and had to constantly remind my collegues that curtains aren't soundproof! So I know what you mean about no privacy. Hope you are feeling ok and that your new tablet is keeping you entertained!
Squirrel how exciting, hope you spot your friends! We went to see Question Time being filmed a couple of years back and our friends tuned in specially to watch our 5 seconds of fame as the camera swept over the audience lol
Becca am I right in thinking you have a while to wait before your next midwife appt (at 34 weeks?) Might be worth popping to the dr tomorrow or Tuesday while they're open! As others have said it could be anemia, or it could be nothing at all! I do sympathise: when your lung capacity is reduced as it is in pregnancy even a little cold (or even a swift walk upstairs lol) can leave you feeling quite breathless and exhausted!
kerri we did a lovely long walk today too, and went to the park. Did you manage a nice coffee? I got a Tassimo machine for Christmas but nothing beats a whippy cream hot chocolate in a proper cafe as far as I'm concerned!
Kynthia glad you enjoyed your class. We are still in touch with everyone from ours a couple of years ago, although I have a couple of ladies who I "gelled" with a lot more than others and would consider among my best friends; it was worth every penny. Ours must have been a similar format to yours as we did two Sundays from 10-4pm which was pretty shattering. Did they do the Marmite-filled nappy thing with you to represent meconium  :rotfl:DH's face was a picture!
Re new year plans - we may pop into a friend's party for an hour, but I certyainly won't even attempt to stay up til midnight! We plan to get up at 6.45 as usual and go for a nice long walk over the fields near our house to watch the sunrise, then home for bacon cobs (I may even risk a poached egg but shhhhh!) and watching The Snowman for the final time this year. I am glad we're not the only ones planning a low-key night. It's hard because we are the only ones out of our group of friends to have children: many of our friends (especially the ones I went to school with so 24/25) still live at home so I feel like we have very different lives right now. That said we did go to a couple of weddings this year from within the group so folk will probably start catching us up soon (and becoming as boring as we are lol)!0
