Hope everyone's ok and nearly ready for xmas, I've not done much, probably will have a last min panic dash round the shops over the weekend!

I'm freaking out a bit....called UCH to get blood test results that they took on Wed, they've said I've had CMV (cytomegalovirus) in the past and they need to contact my local hospital to see if I was positive for it at the beginning of the pregnancy and they will get back to me after xmas.

The guy I spoke to said I shouldn't google it, so of course I did and I've been crying for about an hour. I called the community midwife, she told me to call Triage, the woman I spoke to said nearly 50% of population has this virus and not to worry, it's only if you catch it during the pregnancy that it might cause problems. She said it can be caught as a child, but I've been reading it's sexually transmitted so wondering if someone gave this to me in the past or even...OH gave it to me??

Anyway, don't want to bring anyone down, I'd never heard of this before and I'm feeling a bit dirty and like maybe I've hurt my baby. Probably only having 2 hours sleep last night doesn't help!

I'm off to wash my hands and everything I've touched and won't be kissing anyone this Christmas!

OMG I am sooo exhausted today! I need to tidy up the house as MIL is coming shortly for the weekend, but I'm just so tired :(

Happy birthday Con hope the day improves for you and you're spoiled rotten.
Lulu - hope the last day in work has been fun and not too stressful for you.
Lush - it's almost Christmas, you should be doing wordsearches and things surely?
Birdie & Kynthia - I hope the bands help with the pain, now my bump is at term I'm considering using the sling to support it lol. Although I'm not sure whether this works or not?
SmlSave - hope the antibiotics work and you're well in time for Christmas :) rotten time of year to be ill
BigZ - braxton hicks and pelvic pain is absolutely rubbish, not long for us now though :D Not sure whether breastfed need bibs or not, I hadn't really thought about it until now.Jox - try not to worry yourself as that won't help baby, I'm sure when they are born your worries will all be put to ease and that you haven't done anything to harm your baby xx big hugs xx

DS didn't need a bib bigzippy but it was more to do with the fact that he didn't 'spit-up' a lot after a feed. I think bottle-fed babies probably do use bibs more than bf babies.

We did get very milky though when he got an eye infection and I tried to squirt him in the eye!:rotfl:

Oh Jox, I am sorry to hear you are worried about the blood test. I've never heard of CMV either. They can't be that worried about it if they are going to wait until after Xmas to get back to you.
Can you contact your doctor/midwife to see if they have any idea about this from your notes/previous bloodtests?

    Happy birthday con :)

Kerri, I feel the same ;) and my lower back keeps having phases of unpleasant nerve pain. Had Braxton Hicks at the same time last night, which didn't amuse me greatly :p

This might sound like a daft question, but do babies who are breastfeeding not need bibs? I'm guessing cos they have to work for it more, less gets dribbled down their chin than with bottles?

    37+2

I was at a baby shower a few weeks back & one lady was breast feeding and I think her baby had a bib on.. Mind you there was a second baby there and I could be thinking of him. Also my friends breast fed baby I don't remember seeing a bib on..

I might just buy a cheap 3 pack and see what happens! I think some people also use those necker chief things more of part of an outfit now too if they're not using the bib shaped ones!

Thanks everyone, we're very excited about getting to meet our little lady on Monday :) These last couple of days have been really busy with trying to get all the last minute things sorted, helped by MIL and FIL who've traveled up from the midlands to assist. The house is looking good, car seat is sorted and baby's things are all washed, folded and put away (after the nursery had been rearranged about 10 times!)

Getting some pretty intense BH now and it feels as though she's trying to burrow her way out, so I reckon Monday can't come soon enough :rotfl:

Jox - my little sis had CMV (during pregnancy) and my nephew needed antibiotics and monitoring after birth but he's 2 years old in February and is absolutely fine. Please don't Google, you'll only hear the terrible tales - but bear in mind that these are rare and tend to happen when the infection hasn't been spotted soon enough to give appropriate treatment. Please don't beat yourself up, you and baby are going to be absolutely fine, and the chances are that you haven't contracted it from any sort of sexual contact, it's incredibly common :grouphug:

Con - Happy Birthday, I really hope your symptoms have eased and you've managed to enjoy today despite this morning's sickness.

BZ - I think bibs are definitely less important with a BF baby as they're less windy / sicky (as a very general rule ;)) but it's down to your personal preference and the 'type' of baby you have. Hope the nerve pain settles down soon and you manage to get some quality rest before baby arrives.

Kerri - Hope you enjoy your weekend with the MIL and managed to get some rest despite the tidying.

Will read back further later, need to go and put dinner on now. I'll probably have to nap too, there's been way too much cleaning today :)

I found that when they're small they do leak some out of their mouth but because of the position they feed in (kind of lying on their side) it doesn't really go on them. I used to just put a muslin between me and the baby underneath to catch drips so they didn't go on me in the early days.

Just caught up on 5 pages of chat, not a great deal to add... having a tired day so have the attention span of a gnat.

Had to do a shout out to Amy - Monday is my birthday so I'm biased but its probably one of the better Christmas birthday options. I didn't like it so much as a kid but I love it now as I've never worked on that day and most of my friends and family are off for Christmas by that point so its a great excuse to catch up and eat (non Christmassy) food :)
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
