I was thinking this too but not sure I want to take my lovely pink linings bag to the hospital! So might pack it in the free Boots one I got x
That reminds me I need to get that boots one!
Do you just join their baby club thing?
You could always put your stuff in one & baby's in the other if you want to take both?
Mind you when I had that night in hospital the other week I had a mini suitcase with me as DH had to go home to get my stuff so I just wrote him a list & everything took up so much room cos of the dressing gown etc!0 -
Firefly - Thanks
I'm hoping she'll be with us in time for Christmas but everything seems to have come to a grinding halt now! I think she's saving up her energy to come at the (understaffed) weekend and be as awkward as possible... something she's obviously learnt from her Daddy :rotfl: Hope you and your little man are well - you're going to be in single figures so soon!
Smartcat - lots of sympathy for the SPD, hope your physio appointment is able to help. Hiccups feel so weird! My LO seems to have them once a day at least, hopefully yours will be a little more settled!
Birdie - love how pragmatic your OH was about the John Lewis advert! :rotfl: Hope your Christmas cake competition went well and the poorliness stayed away.
P.S. Don't tell my OH about the maternity package in Canada - he's ready to pack our suitcases already!
TL - I should have known I could rely on you for the wagging finger! As it happens, you're very right to wag it because the 'symptoms' have now stopped. Entirely. *sigh* Hope your DH is feeling better today and manages to get the furniture up for you soon
I love that you're looking forward to labour and completely understand where you're coming from - the cuddles afterwards will definitely be worth the (hopefully short-lived) pain.
Mincepie - I love your dreamPregnancy is playing some very weird games with us all I think.
Squirrel - I like to think that baby is getting all her cheekiness out of the way now, ready to be a settled and not at all contrary newborn
Kerri - ThanksI'm surprisingly calm now. Hope your RLS settles down, do you get it at night now? I imagine it must be really irritating when you're trying to relax and 'wind down'. Your dream sounds amazing! :rotfl: Can't imagine how annoying it would be to give birth to a cat then realise you have to do the whole 9 months again!
My BH have also mysteriously stopped... MIL says it's baby saving her strength for an imminent labour  but I think she's just desperate for her to be here and would say anything to make it happen! Your OH sounds very sweet, calling to check you're okay - it's lovely to see how pregnancy and impending parenthood affects the menfolk too.
Jox - welcome to the pregnant lady leg dance! It's much like the okie cokie but involves a lot more swearing, falling over and shouting to OH for assistance... I'm trying out for the Olympic team, you should join me!
Amazing news about your OH, I hope the job is not as tough going as he's expecting and is a springboard to even bigger and better things for your familyHope you get the relaxing evening and early night it sounds like you both need tonight.
Will be thinking of you and your little man next week, what day is the growth scan on?
Fran - don't tempt me with any more shopping!
Zippy - I desperately want to make up the crib too, but DH won't let me! I've also developed a worrying Pringles addiction... only the paprika ones though - eating paprika crisps reminds me of European holidays
In terms of labour, are you planning to have a water birth? I think that will my plan for a vaginal delivery, but I've been told conflicting things about whether it will be 'allowed' or not
Samtoby - Please don't tell me that story again! Although I suppose a quick labour is better than a long and protracted one. I hope you get a calmer birth this time around.
Becca - I'm taking baby's things in a changing bag, it just seemed to make sense. Although I always (internally) rolled my eyes at women who brought huuuuge bags onto the delivery suite, I have so turned into one! I have a little suitcase for my own things and a changing bag (that's bursting at the seams) for baby's things - and I keep adding bits!
How exciting about becoming a SAHM, you must be counting down the days
AFM - sorry about another epic post, this thread seems to be moving so quickly at the moment.
After all the excitement of last night, things have really settled down. I had loads of energy last night until about 2:30 am so made (and froze) some meals in preparation. Went to bed and woke up feeling absolutely fine with not even BHWent to Boots and Sainsbobs for the final few bits then came home to nap and have spent all afternoon in bed!
For those who were asking about my birth plan in the event of spontaneous labour, it's basically to keep things as natural as possible and try for a water birth. I've explained my conditions in the birth plan and have pointed out that positions like lithotomy aren't going to be suitable, that I haven't yet been assessed for an epidural, and that it might take me longer to move around than it would take most women. I've also declined consent for Kielland's forceps as these are (unfortunately) still used in my hospital and in my opinion are significantly less safe than opting for a caesarean if baby needs to be rotated.
I've pointed out that at the end of the day I just want baby and me to be healthy, so I'm obviously going to be flexible and nothing's more important than that for me. However, in an ideal world I'd want:- As few people in the room as possible except me and DH - please ask people to knock unless there's a genuine emergency
- Intermittent rather than continuous monitoring unless there's a clinical need
- To use water, massage and aromatherapy as pain relief
- Delayed cord clamping (and DH to be offered the opportunity to cut the cord)
- No interventions unless there is a genuine clinical need
- No directed pushing
- A physiological third stage unless any risks are identified
- Skin to skin contact immediately after the birth and at least until after the first feed
- Vit K to be administered either IM or orally
As it happens I've now spoken to the senior 'birth choices' midwife and have an appointment with her tomorrow to hopefully make a decision on the plan going forward. The plan is still not to see the consultant again until next Thursday, but I'm hoping that I might be able to change this when I explain the situation.
I'm feeling really confident though that things will all work out for the best (maybe hormones do have a good side after all :rotfl:) whether I end up having a section or a vaginal delivery. I just want to meet her now!0 -
Aww Amy your birth plan sounds lovely, I really hope you get to have it
I'm going to pinch a few of those lines to put in mine as most are the same as what we are wanting. Really need to write my birth plan!
My fingers/hands are sore from starting to crochet a blanket for baby. I realised last night that I only have a pram blanket for her that isn't really that soft. So I'm on row 11 of 50! I've never crocheted anything properly in my life until two days ago, I'm amazed how quickly I seem to have grasped it this time around.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

and salt and vinegar helps when I'm feeling poorly
Yep, planning on a water birth if all possible. The consultants and midwives and anaesthetist all think it's a good idea, though non of them will put it in my notes  There's only one birthing pool in the delivery suite so it's first come first served really and I just have to hope for the best on the day. It would really help support my (well, our) joints, which was my primary concern, but the other benefits appeal too. There's some debate over whether I could have diamorphine while in there - my plan of escalation goes from water and Paracetamol, to gas and air, to maybe codeine(?), to diamorphine and if that's not enough I'll have to see about an epidural (I really don't want one but am realistic that my heightened nerve sensitivity may not give me much choice)... I've been assessed for both an epidural and a general, just in case. The anaesthetist basically said people with my conditions that she sees tend to need more rather than less, and that sometimes the epidural isn't as effective for them either, so higher risk of a General if I do need a section  We'll see how it goes at the time...
Keep us posted how your appointment(s) goes

BigZ - have you researched any of the hypnobirthing methods for helping to stay relaxed during the labour? My Mum went on a self-hypnosis course last Friday for helping her cope with her M.E. and said that it has taught her some really useful relaxation techniques to help her rest better.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Been a tough few days here
a few complications have occurred and now my baby may be here quite a bit earlier than planned although we are waiting for confirmation at the next scan.
So we are trying to finish off the last few bits in the nursery and I am trying to relax as much as possible. Also reading up about the care of a premie baby. The LLL have been very helpful as have the NCT breast feeding advisor. I would rather be prepared now than trying to take it all in during the early fog of motherhood.
Apart from the drama I am feeling good and my baby is currently coping so the focus is on keeping him there as long as possibleTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hope you and baby are okay Rummer, sounds like a lot of stressful stuff has been going on. Take care xx0

Has anyone bought any good maternity tights that are thick ones?
Before my bump got too uncomfortable I had these lovely thick almost thermal type ones from Asda, great for when its cold. Cost about £3.
Now looking for maternity ones there are firstly hardly any to choose from, and I havent had much luck. The ones in Mothercare are really expensive but Im now desperate and will cough up for them if someone says theyre good.
I bought some in H&M as were £8 and nice and thick, got a size S, as their sizing is a bit odd in there, instead of like everywhere else it says buy your normal size, it says to get various sizes depending how far along you are, but a S is a 10-12 so I figured that was one up for me anyway so got those. Plus Im only 5'3'' so cant get too big or theyll be too long.
Anyway they were like airplane compression stockings! Way too tight on my bump. So DH nicely swapped them for me for a M yesterday.
The M were just as tight but too long, so had a nice Nora Batty effect! How hard can it be to buy some nice woolly tights!0 -

aw good luck Rummer. A school friend has just had a baby at 30 weeks, but hes around 28 weeks in size, around 2lb and hes doing really well. x0 -
Sorry to hear that Rummer.
At least there's some advance notice so you can prepare for that possibility. Make sure you get plenty of rest and try to relax, I know it must be difficult, but stress isn't going to help.
Hope things look better at the next scan.
I really suppose I ought to think about a birth plan. I'd kind of just hoped that I'd turn up and be looked after, not even looked into all of my options (apart from thinking that if there's a free pool, I'd quite like it). I don't have any thoughts for/against pain relief since I have no idea if I'll happily cope with a couple of paracetamol or if I'll be screaming for an epidural!
Whatever helps the baby get here quickly and safely is fine by me.
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
