On the subject of mattresses, do you know if you need a new mattress even for siblings, I was hoping to use the moses basket and cot I used for my little one for his little sister when she comes, I have heard if you are buying from a stranger it is not safe but is it ok to use in same family?

The official advice is new mattress even for siblings due to the little bits of milk they spit up causing mould in the mattress which would be harmful to any other child as each has their individual immune system.

I'm having the same worry re movement nene. I had a very active baby from 19 weeks-about 22 then until now (24+1) barely anything. I'm not sure whether to be worried as its my first and I know they don't really start monitoring kicks until 28 weeks but it is a bit worrying. Have found ice cold hands really help to get a few light kicks compared to what i was feeling before but it feels a bit cruel doing that!

I'm already bricking it on how to look after a boy. Girls are easy as I have girl parts and know how to look after myself....but I dunno how to look after a boy. What the hell do I do with his willy?!?! Point it down, leave it as it?

Oh I'm in the same boat! 4 nieces, 2 daughters and the only boy lives in Australia so I have no experience of boys at all! I get to change pads on adults in work (so much fun!) so I know to make sure its all pointing south when putting the nappy on. When I was doing my training I spent 2 weeks with a HV but really the only thing I learnt was that boys go off like fountains when nappies have been removed and I spent 2 weeks covered in pee!

I've borrowed a yoga ball from a friend (desperate attempt to get him turned!), spent half hour on it for the first time last night and my butt went numb!!!! It was nice though and I was able to do lots of pelvic tilts and rolls just like my yoga teacher told me to.

I'm in shock tonight, this day last week I worked a 14 hour shift, today I took girls out to shops after school, was there 4 hours, needed 2 half hour breaks and I'm so tired I could have cried - what has happened to me in a week?

How far is home to hospital Pigpen? You could have it packed ready but leave it at home, then if baby comes, you'd be staying in anyway and OH could just pop home and pick it up when you needed it.

2 hours drive minimum.. but not going to the hospital here would be wonderful.

Instead of bringing a full case could you pack a couple of essentials just in case PP? Just something like a couple of sleepsuits and vests - I'm sure the hospital would have some nappies and pads available (its been a while for me but I think there might even be nappies in the Bounty packs) and you'll have pjs and stuff with you anyway. OH could nip out to shops when all the action is over and get any other stuff you need.

Oh and if anyone is looking for sleepsuits and vests I spotted tonight Tesco is selling some of their 3 pack of sleepsuits and 5 pack of vests for £5.

Evening ladies, moving over here from the 12-24 thread. Could you add me to the list please?

    tinycourageous EDD 8th October

This one is kicking like anyone's business at the moment - he's never still! Which is lovely but distracting at work. Had midwife appointment this morning and finally got my MATB1 form so will pass that to work tomorrow (will take several copies first as work are terrible for losing things). GTT is a week Monday and I need to book in for antenatal classes. Was chatting to one of the children's centre staff last week (I often work in conjunction with them) and she's on a mission to get me on every course and class going (in theory I don't mind, in reality who knows!) which might be fun.

That's what I said.. plus it'd be in a week or 2 at that gestation so pointless carting the whole lot there.. I don't feel it will be that early tbh.. with the really early 2 I'd had issues all along.. niggling contractions, engaged, leaky waters etc.. I have none of that at the moment and if I felt it might happen suddenly I simply would refuse to go.

He reckons we are tempting fate not taking it.. I said well we can stay at home then :p... I'd much prefer that!!

I think you'd be tempting fate by taking it! :rotfl:
  • I've heard that you need a new mattress even for siblings - it's the mold from their sick that's unsafe.

nene - very cute picture and thanks for putting my due date right. I got a bonus 5 days from my 12 week scan! I think you only start checking for regular movement in the third trimester - then it's only 10 per day.

I have no idea at the moment with my anterior placenta. I seem to be getting the gas bubbles effect on the top of my right tummy. 25+5
