I'm just back from my consultant appointment too. Not very happy though, so if you're fed up of my constant whinging then feel free to skip ahead
Despite the plan having been set weeks ago for an elective section between 38 and 39 weeks, the registrar has now decided that she's not sure I need a section and that she wants the input of the anaesthetists and a senior midwife. Apparently these referrals should have been made at my 28 week appointment and now mean that I won't have a final answer about my mode of delivery until I'm almost 39 weeks on the 19th December.
I'm just so fed up with it - I'd started out by wanting a home / water birth with as little intervention as possible and was told that this wouldn't be appropriate and my medical conditions would prevent it. I then prepared myself for a caesarean and became used to the idea, as well as allowing myself to be completely convinced that a vaginal delivery isn't an option for me and will end badly. Now, with a matter of weeks (maybe less) until delivery, they want to change the plan again and expect me to be fine with it.
I have bipolar disorder and lots of issues with anxiety (so I'm sure you can guess all the recent news has been really reassuring anyway) and it's just not appropriate to keep changing the agreed plans and putting off making a decision for weeks. I'm convinced that I'm going to SROM before the 19th and will then end up in hospital with no birth plan and unsure of whether I should be fighting for an emergency section or just seeing what happens during a vaginal delivery.
I came out of the appointment and just sobbed (I still feel teary now), but I'm really angry too. The registrar has completely changed the advice I was given and showed she had little knowledge of my condition, so to be honest I don't really trust her. I'll be 37 weeks on Saturday, it's just not fair that they're springing all this on me now - especially if it all should have been sorted weeks ago0 -
Just looking through my notes so hopefully this will reassure you.26+2 - 1lb 12
29+1 - 2lb 14 (only time she's been near the 50th percentile, all the rest she's been towards 25th)
32+1 - 3lb 13
34+6 - 5lbs
She started to pile on the lbs from around 30-32 weeks, even though I wasn't gaining any weight due to my thyroxine medication being too high so on the scales I was losing weight. Hope that reassures you a bit. Besides, they can say "oh it's a 12lb baby" and it comes out as 7lb, and vice versa. Don't go beating yourself up about the coffee/cola, a stressed mummy isn't good at all xxxDiary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Thanks kerri, that helps!
Amyloofoo, sorry you're not feeling heard and supported and I would hate not knowing what is going on as well! Hope you get hugs and support from loved ones and I'm sure everything will work out for you, though it must be upsetting and frustrating!0 -
Amy so sorry to hear that they are messing you around. Do you feel like you would still want the home birth? If they think you should be ok delivering vaginally then, and given they give you two MWs for home births, why not take control away from them and say you are having a home birth. You can then go forwards planning how you want things to be, you'll be in the comfort of your own home and you won't have doctors/nurses running in and out every few minutes or leaving you for hours at a time.
Do you have a birthing centre you can look round?
Just remember that this is your body and although priority has to be keeping you and LO safe, that you are still in control of what happens to it xxx hugs xxxDiary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Oh dear Amy, how frustrating! I totally understand why you're so upset, can't they see how ridiculous is it to leave you waiting until you're practically due/past the expected date of delivery before deciding what's going to happen?! Is there anything you can do to get the decision brought forward? You really don't need to be stressing about all this at 37weeks!
I hope you've been singing 'I like big butts and I cannot lie' to your little lady TL! :rotfl:
Glad your appointment went well Kerri.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
oh Amy I'm really upset on your behalf, it'd do nobody any good to be told it'd be a bad idea to have a vaginal delivery then be told you should have one, it'd make me incredibly anxious and scared and i don't have your issues!
I really don't know what to say, wish i could think of something that would helpother than first babies are usually late so fingers crossed this is all academic in the end, you'll have your 39 week appointment and get a good answer
re: baby sizes, funnily enough the midwife this morning said one of her friends had a growth scan, predicted size of 11lb 2oz so they gave her an emergency section the next day, baby was 8lb 1oz, so they gave her the section for nothing!
eta: birdie i hadn't thought of that! it's going to be done now, although what if when she's born i've sung it to her so much that it's the only thing that'll put her to sleep?? lol xLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Funnily enough, my brother had sung 'Soft Kitty' from the Big Bang Theory to SIL's bump so much it was the only thing that would soothe my nephew for the first couple of weeks!
Can't believe that story about the giant-but-not-at-all baby! How can they get measurements so wrong?!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Popping in from the 12-24 thread to add that when I was expecting my first I was told that he was 8lbs 4 weeks before my due date, by the time I went into labour 3 weeks later I was terrified thinking that I would be having a massive baby-he was 7lbs 1oz , phew0

She'll be like baby Emma on friends!
I'm not sure whether the bump I get is a bum or a head! Lol
Amy you poor thing. Can you talk to someone else for a second opinion before 39 weeks?
How do they know babies weights? Especially if they're often wrong seems whatever they are using is very inaccurate?!0 -
Kerri those toys look fabulous! I am hoping to make some of my things over the weekend as they have arrived and are just waiting for attention. One of my Montessori books is also waiting for me at the post office so I will be able to relax and have a good read of that too.
It hit me today that I only have two weeks left at work and then I am off for 9 months  So glad I have decided to finish at Christmas as I am constantly tired and all I want to do is nest and hibernateespecially since the weather has really started to deteriorate.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
