Did anyone have baby in a midwife unit with no bed?
I really want to use our midwife unit, but there is no bed, only mats on the floor, and also a ball and a chair for OH.I wonder how comfortable this is - I don't necessarily want to lie on my back but I think I would like the option of lying down for a rest if I can!

Ellie3009 - No bed at our birth centre either - didn't miss it at all! I ended up on a mat with lots of pillows for a while after giving birth and it was fine and comfy.
In fact the idea of being the delivery suite with just a bed freaks me out - hence I'm fighting to get in the birth centre again.

Well done vic and congratulations! :)

Feeling big and uncomfortable today - what on earth am I going to be like in Feb!?!

  • Congratulations Vic, lovely name.

Smlsave I'm the same too feel huge and had belly ache all weekend so no doubt a growth spurt.

Not looking forward to work this week, on count down to mat leave....10 weeks to go.

Is there anyone who isn't really doing Christmas? I really do not want to go traipsing around shops looking for pointless gifts this year because 'Christmas says we have to'. Feel like making a donation to a charity and just send/give a really nice Christmas card to each member of our family to explain what we have done. How would you feel if you received a card saying this? Also it's just me and DH at home this year as my parents are on holiday so no massive family gathering like previous years.

I've already opted out of secret Santa at work as feeling bah humbug!!!

  • I just have tomorrow to finalise everything before I meet my baby via c section. I can't help but feel like there's something I'm forgetting? My hospital bag/ case seems huge and excessive but I've kept to basics. I'm keeping my case in the car as I won't need it until after section and I have a small bag with baby's first clothes/ nappies/ muslin clothes/ pre-made formula just incase/ cotton wool etc. I will need my notes but I'm not sure what else exactly I need to take in with me?! I've kept toiletries in my case as DH can get that after. Other than that I think everything is ready, just going to tidy/ vacuum/ steam clean floors tomorrow so it's all clean for my return (hopefully!) I've got simple meals in for DH and my son, sorted childcare... What more can I do?!

Rummer thank you for the link, we were already thinking of doing some of those concepts anyway but it's nice to see others we hadn't considered like breakable crockery, all makes a lot of sense.

Kscarlet - what about stocking the freezer with cottage pie & pasta bake for when none of you want to cook as too tired? We've been doing that the past few weeks to stock up. Or have a lovely bath enjoying your pregnant bump that'll be gone soon. Maybe photograph it?

    Congratulations Vic! :)

Good luck KScarlet - not long now - how exciting!

Mrs Bunny - tbh I would be p'd off If I got a card like that at Christmas. If you want to do the the charity thing you could suggest it the other way round - that no-one buys you pressies but that they make a donation to whatever charity you suggest. I've done all my Christmas shopping online so no traipsing round the shops. I wouldn't want a pointless gift either. That's sounds like you can't even be bothered thinking about the person. You could say you are doing small pressies this year then make an effort to get something small that they would really like :)

Eta: Hope at didn't sound too harsh to you mrs Bunny, just thinking about how it might seem to your friends and family but you know them best if you think they would be ok with it.

Thank you all. They also stopped the gas and air when I was delivering as it was slowing things down. They had to get a drip in me to speed up contractions to deliver his head as his heart beat slowed. I will upload a pic when I get home.

Good luck Scarlett; I'll be thinking of you and waiting for an update.

  • Faith hope....thankyou for your feedback, I'm just playing with ideas in my mind as I really can't be bothered with Christmas, I know that sounds harsh but right now it's how I feel.

I think half the problem is we get 'Christmas' from September onwards and it drives me mad. Adverts, decorations, food etc should be on sale from December in my opinion.

Goodness me, im a right old winge bag these days......sorry ladies.

DH is on nights next week. So might spend my evenings online shopping and try and get into the spirit. I normally love Christmas......pregnancy hormones are to blame I think. X

  • Thanks Kerri lovely ideas :) keep saying to DH I want him to take one last bump photo, I will definitely miss it! I've sorted food for DH/ DS but freezer meals sounds a good idea for once I'm home xx
