That's the problem with making presents isn't it, tends to cost just as much as buying! :) In the past I've made themed hampers for people but I've totally run out of ideas now and don't want to be doing the same thing every year. :o Last year I made a load of presents but just don't have the energy or inclination this time. I just hope that I get a brainwave this week about what to buy for everyone so it's all done as I don't like it hanging over my head! OH and I are off to London on Saturday for a bit of shopping (with a lot of rest breaks!) so maybe we'll find nice gifts for people then? :)

I forgot to say that I got irrationally annoyed last night with my friend. :p We were talking about the baby and I was talking about 'him', my other friends were talking about 'him' yet this one friend kept saying 'it'. I said 'He's not an 'it', he's a 'he'...' but she carried on, saying that 'he' might turn out to be a 'she' so until she's sure, she call him 'it'. Wasn't impressed, she made it sound like I'm just growing a faceless creature rather than my lovely little boy! :o

ETA: Hugs for feeling rotten TL! I'm dreading catching my annual cold as I just love to dose myself up with everything going! :o

Xmas present wise I did most online, I had all these plans of hand crafted goodies but I just ran out of time/ motivation so have ordered everything online from boots, amazon, next, book people etc. just got to wrap it!

Just back from the MW, I'm now 34+5 and measuring 28cm eugh! I'm convinced their tape measure is wrong as I've definitely grown since I last saw the woman. They're sending me off for another growth scan, so I'm waiting for the phone to ring with a time for that. Baby is 3/5 palpable. Everything else coming up fine. I asked her about taking calcium supplements as I'm craving milk and lactose intolerant, and she told me they don't advise whether to take supplements...I shall continue taking them then. :)

Thank you for all the good wishes. Despite being sent home from hospital at 3am as nothing was happening, I was back there at 5am and shocked the staff that I was 9cm dialated. After a tear, a cut and only gas and air, baby Thomas was born at 10.29am. He is 9lb 5oz and is perfect. I'm in love!

    Sorry I queue jumped!!!
Lots of love to all. Xx
    Congratulations!

What a pain Kerri!! I think the measurements are all a bit 'text book' I measured 20th centile or under with my son but he was a healthy 7lbs. This time I'm on the 50th, I'm guessing bubs will be bigger this time but think the measurements are made to suit a perfect model which none of is can be with varying sizes/ weights etc. you've previously said you are petite so I am sure baby will be a perfectly healthy size! BWP I had gas and air taken off me when I was pushing, I think it is so you are concentrating on pushing and listening to what the midwife is saying instead of blowing on the gas and air (a lot of my concentration was gone on trying to not make the gas and air make duck noises as I was doing it...)
From memory of watching one of the OBEM eps on TV I think they said something along those lines too, they need the mother to be as focussed as possible.

BWP - I didn't have gas and air to push with either. They recommended I came off it so that I could concentrate fully on pushing which makes sense to me. I coped absolutely fine as I was concentrating on the pushing side...

BWP - As far as I know they always take the gas &air away from you just at the point when the head is coming out. They did that to me, can't remember what the reason is.
I had no idea! Maybe they didn't take it off me at all because I never pushed then. I guess that could explain why they kept asking me if I felt like I "needed" to push. Saying the mother "needs" to concentrate on pushing seems like rather flawed reasoning though given pushing isn't necessary.

I guess the thing is that even if common sense tells the MW that everything is fine as you've measured small throughout and had umpteen growth scans, she still has to send you for one because otherwise if something did later turn out to be wrong she would be held to account for not having followed protocol.

My OH has been told to tell the MW to shut up if she even mentions the word "push" during the final stage.

Yes, that's what I said to my Dad that it's better they are checking than if something were to go wrong and be missed. Still waiting for them to call me.

Just had the man round who will be feeding the cats at the weekend, he seemed nice enough although I forgot to ask him to use the little hoover to suck up spilt litter, whoops! Will have to leave a note. Have also just bought lots of different size bikinis in the sale online as I have no idea what size I am now, nor do I have anything suitable for a spa weekend with only 4 days to find something!:eek::eek:

Congratulations Vic! Lovely news and well done, he's a good size!

Kerri - Sounds like your MW is just a overcautious but that's better than it being the opposite. How often are you being sent for growth scans? I remember you posting some of the measurements from your last scan and they were all quite significantly more than my baby at that gestation. You are very slim and it's your first baby so don't worry.
