Hi abis and Scarlett, it is my first and they do a sweep on your due date here. As my midwife only works at my surgery one day a week, it will be the day before my due date. Hopefully the same as what happened to my sister will happen. Her waters broke 5 hours after her sweep.

Labour vibes being sent abi :)

Hi lippy, check out spinningbabies.com there's a few exercises you can do to try to turn the baby on there. I think pelvic one and a breech one. Worth a shot :)

Got taken down to the delivery suite, had gas & air for the next 2cm. Had it taken off me to push at around 12 as baby's heart rate was dropping. The remainder of the birth was really good, listened to the midwifes orders and no tears :)
    Bethany Anne was born at 1:10pm :) 8lb 1oz :)
Congratulations on the safe arrival of Bethany!

Why did they take the gas and air off you for pushing? Is that usual?

Well, I'm up early. Just got back from hospital and seem to be in very early labour. Having some mild contractions and losing some watery blood but my waters haven't broken yet. Midwife said that baby's head is very low.

Rummer - go you for your walk yesterday. I'm the same - can't believe how slowly I walk these days! If I walk with anyone on the school run etc I keep having to remind them that we have to go at waddle pace or I can't keep up! I remember being really surprised last time at how quickly I could walk after the birth despite having stitches etc - it was still loads better! So it won't last forever :D

Lippy - Glad baby was ok. I think they like to trick us sometimes with staying still! I haven't had any experience on the breach question, but just do what you feel is right. I would say though that with all these things - the 'bad' reports are more often written about on the internet than the 'good' reports iyswim... So you may be getting a slightly biased view of the horror stories. I can't see that the midwives etc would still do it if it was all that bad :o

Vic - Hope this is the start of things for you, altho obviously I hope I go first :rotfl: I think I had 2 sweeps last time and neither did anything for me - I just don't think I was ready (altho the pessary for induction worked straight away, so I must have been almost ready...) This time I think a sweep really might help as I am having other signs of the beginnings of labour - so my body is obviously preparing for it. I think it might just need a nudge!

BWP - I didn't have gas and air to push with either. They recommended I came off it so that I could concentrate fully on pushing which makes sense to me. I coped absolutely fine as I was concentrating on the pushing side...

AFM - No such lie in again for me so I think it really will have been my last yesterday :o I woke at 6, and tried to go back to sleep for a while but gave in and got up for brekkie etc. Think I will do quiet jobs like ironing while DH enjoys his lie in. I nearly finished spring cleaning DDs bedroom yesterday and I am itching to finish that as its looking so lovely. Bless her, shes been waiting for me to go through her drawers and clear out all the clothes shes outgrown etc for a few weeks now :o I keep piling her new ironing up on the floor whilst I sorted the drawers out, so its been neglected for a while and not even her fault :o I've cleared out all her things in her desk/toy chest too and started to reorganise everything so it will be so much easier for her to keep clean in future. Can't wait to get the last few bits done and put the hoover over etc.

DD comes back from her dads tomorrow, so for childcare purposes it will be so much better to have baby before then. Especially as I can't really ask my mum to have her now!!! I don't think baby is listening tho :o Hoping to try and be more active today and see if that encourages anything. I keep having strong Braxton hicks and its so frustrating that they aren't turning in to anything. Had a little cry to DH last night as I'm finding these last few days harder than I had anticipated :o

Amy congratulations, sorry to hear you're poorly, hope you're fighting fit soon :)
Vic exciting times! Hope you're doing well and baby comes easy for you
Abis hope it's not too much longer for you, must be so frustrating

AFM I'm 30 weeks today :) so so pleased to reach this milestone, I'm really worried about a premature baby so this is a sigh of relief for me. Just need to get past 34 weeks, which is when the prem 1st babies in the family came, then I'll be happy :)
Had fun last night with my friends, stayed there til 10:30, so my day on the couch paid off :) but I sat on a hard chair and now my hips are sore lol

  • Hi everyone, I've not been posting much but following all your updates :) I feel so shattered all the time plus whenever I'm online I have my toddler jumping up and changing it to the Peppa Pig app!

Congrats Amy! Bethany is a lovely name. I thought at first you meant you had no tears as in not crying but then thinking you probably meant no stitches required :D

BWP - As far as I know they always take the gas &air away from you just at the point when the head is coming out. They did that to me, can't remember what the reason is.

Vic3- hope everything goes quickly for you and as easy as possible.

Abis - hope you're not too far behind and your little one comes soon too.

AFM - I'm impressed with how much you all still manage to do - painting, spring cleaning, huge long walks etc. I get knackered just reading about it :rotfl: Although I did manage shopping yesterday interspersed with sitting down for lunch and then coffees :p

Saw mw last Mon. She is not the best - but at least I have the consultant as well although not seein her till mid Jan. am struggling a bit with the size of my bump. It is so huge!

Well think late pregnancy is the only time you get excited by having diarrhoea!! :rotfl: Altho it could be down to the antibiotics - I'm kind of hoping its my body clearing out for labour, lol!

TL - yay for 30 weeks and having a nice evening. My friend was maybe coming round, but she didn't come in the end. I said she could laugh at how often I thought I was in labour and it was starting off :o I think I'm too much of an optimist for this waiting game :rotfl:

Faithhope - I can't cope with much walking at all, and my spring cleaning is spread over the full day - so I rest a bit and then do a bit. I had thought I would get so much more done before baby got here and whilst on maternity but in reality I am tired a lot of the time and defo being ill had a massive effect as nothing really got done for a week or so. I managed a lot of shopping then too - of the online kind  Am trying to get sorted out for Christmas, but DD isn't sure what to ask for from Santa - so I'll have to leave that one for a bit.

I'm so looking forward to Christmas as a family of 4 :D

I am cleaning now so that I have less to do when I am further on :) plus I am fully planning on doing next to nothing in the house when my boy arrives so I am wracking up the cleaning points now. Plus I seem to notice more mess and dust now that I am pregnant, must be natures way of creating the best environment for child rearing.

Been reading a lot recently about the Montessori way of raising children and I have to say I am quite taken by some of their ideas. Obviously I will do what suits my family but they have some interesting ideas about fostering independence which is something I think all children need to develop from an early age.
