Thought I'd share this article with you all for a bit of lunchtime reading today:

    THE BUMP WATCHERS
Too big, too small or just right? Judging everything from baby bumps to maternity wardrobes has become yet another way to scrutinise women, but should pregnancy ever be up for public discussion?
Yes, actually. I lived in Romford all my life and then moved to Ipswich for a year for a one-year job offer (coming to an end this July!) and then I will be moving back to Essex to live with my fiance in Southend - I am so excited to be going back! [Long distance relationship is wubbish in comparison!]

What a coincidence - I'm a Romford girl myself too! Moved to Southend a few years ago with my hubby before we got married!

Morning all - feeling fighting fit today after getting a decent night's sleep last nigh as it was cloudy here yesterday - sorching again today though.

Re heartburn - I have got Gaviscon advnace on prescription from GP... fantastic stuff

Re sweeps - I had 3 sweeps with DS and still had to be induced. Baby is obviously quite cosy in there.

2 days left to work, halleluja. Then hopefully nesting will kick in as the house needs a bloody good clean but I really CBA just now.

I actually quite enjoyed that article and agreed with most of it - not sure if it's just 'cause I'm sick of people thinking it's fair game to comment on my bump now.

I'm probably just being overly hormonal but it's actually getting quite upsetting when people give me the "I wasn't any bigger at full term than you are now.." or "I know someone who had a 13lb baby *nudge nudge*" and when I mentioned I realised last night that I only have 1 newborn vest (no idea how that happened!) and my colleague was like "ppft, you'll be needing 3-6 month" - I honestly could have cried and/or snapped her face off!

Put it this way.. if anyone (including OH's sister!!) tries to touch my bump they are slapped away and told in no uncertain terms I am NOT a petting zoo and will not tolerate being touched at the best of times and being a hormonal crazy pregnant person does nothing to improve my demeanour!

It is amazing how fast people learn not to ask rude questions when the reply is a consistent 'what business is that of yours?' .. or you ask about their sex life or bank balance..

And I know I am huge.. I don't need anyone else to tell me.. I look down at myself in horror and exclaim 'OMG where did THAT come from???!!!' .. or blandly say 'well you're original, I've not heard that 1000 times before!'

  • Don't worry Claree_X - people can be total idiots around pregnant women. I've not put on a lot of weight and my bump is exactly in the middle of the chart and has been all along. However due to my body shape (small, plump and short waisted) I've had a pretty prominent bump for some months and have had to bite my tongue when people (who I assume think they're being funny?) say that I'm massive, am I sure there's not more than one in there, must be about to drop any second, must be having a gigantic baby which is really going to hurt etc etc.

It's not something I've ever thought to comment on when other women I know have been pregnant but I'm hearing it so much from other pregnant women that I take comfort from the fact that it's not just me...

(P.S. my in laws have a sweep stake going guessing the size of the baby and almost all of them are going for 8lb plus). Shame MSE doesn't allow rude words because I have a few I could express about people like that!

Thanks ladies - I'm probably just having a bad day but sometimes it really does get to me. I'm sure they're not trying to be mean but I was teased for being fat when I was younger n it feels like my baby's already being teased and she's not even here yet!

So tell them! It really annoys me that the general public think you suddenly become public property.. They get bit of a shock with me, lol. I am a dragon.

Just a quick question for anyone who joined the boots parenting club - did it take forever to get your welcome pack sent out? I know it says up to 4 weeks in the email but I wasn't expecting it to actually take this long!

I joined the boots club and from what I remember it took about 2 weeks to come through, as did the tesco one
New first time mummy to a gorgeous little boy!
