Wow, busy day on the board, welcome to everyone: this is a great place to get advice, moan and vent!

I'm still plodding along, now ready and waiting after panicking about being unprepared and going early.

Whooping cough was very quick and didn't impact me at all, flu was even quicker but did lead to a drowsy following day. I finished about 36 weeks as teaching is fairly active and full of h&s issues combined with me getting a stinking cold. Hindsight means I should have been off with cold but it allowed me to sort house and mentally prepare before bump finally arrives.

Bit disappointed today as not engaged at all despite Braxton hicks every evening and bits of plug appearing. Even more so that they don't even offer a sweep til you are 40+5 when it's your second and we were already moved back over a week, it feels like baby will never be here! Even my mums started recommending vigorous sex as I'm the size of a house.

    Fingers crossed for action soon

I'm still lurking too waiting on these imminent bubbas to arrive!

Thanks for the congrats Bangton, how are you getting on now? Hope you're getting some energy back now.

Just wanted to give some positive feedback on my birth experience; ended up having her in the pool in the birth centre (attached to labour ward in hospital) which was an incredible experience. Had lovely relaxing music to get me through the worst of it and even lovelier midwives who bought be lavender oil to keep me calm. Would recommend the TENS in the earlier stages of labour to help manage the pain and as a distraction if nothing else!

Even though I'm still feeling pretty raw down there I wouldn't change anything and the water was an incredible pain relief for anyone considering it. Hope this helps someone :)

Fluffy I hope you'll be on your way to meeting your little man soon! Xx

Well looks like hypnobirthing classes with the OH were a waste of money. Everytime I ask him to practice with me he's "too tired" or "not in the mood". So I've just done 15 minutes of relaxation by myself. No point going forward asking him to assist me as no doubt he'll be "too tired" or "not in the mood" when it comes to the real thing, it's not exactly like babies come to order when everything is settled, dishes are done and you have enough energy to actually do these things properly.

    *thoroughly fed up with him*

Kerri, i think it's sometimes hard for men to 'get' things like that iyswim? Did he seem co-operative when you were actually at the classes? Maybe sit him down and explain it means a lot to you and you need his help otherwise it's been a waste of time?

Pains not as frequent now (about every 10 minutes) but haven't stopped. Still only lasting about 30 secs but strong enough that they can't be ignored. DS asleep at Mum's. If labour really gets going my brother will mind him while mum comes with us. Last time I was in labour early stages were like this for 24 hours. Hopefully it'll be quicker this time but I'm convinced that something's definitely happening, after all its been several hours now. Started not long after lunch. Torn between having a rest or a bath and keeping moving. Don't want to lie down incase I slow things down. But don't want to go without sleep needlessly either incase this takes a long time.

  • So excited for you fluffysox, sounds like it's your turn! I personally found both times, that my contractions got stronger when seated compared to walking around, but that's just me. Hope we wake in the morning and you have a lovely baby update for us. Xx

If it helps, I just had DH read key bits from the hypnobirthing book to me and it made a huge difference as it meant he remembered the important stuff and actually did say the right things to me when I was panicking and saying that I couldn't do it. Was pretty amazing really as he is pretty forgetful and also not very good under pressure. Plus the night I gave birth he'd actually gone to bed early because he was particularly tired and wanted a good night's sleep and I got him up to fill the pool before he'd gone to sleep.

fluffysox - I'd get some rest if I were you, if you relax all the rest of your muscles then more oxygen can go to your uterus helping it work harder...or that's what they say the sciencey bit is anyway. How exciting though, sounds positive that things might be moving along for you :D

BWP & toothfairy - thanks, I think I was having a hormonal moment, he's not feeling very well tonight he thinks he has flu, I think he has man flu, and he did come in and cook for 2hrs with me. We're going to try to do some practice after his shower in the evenings when he's got some energy.

Fluffysox the more relaxed you are the faster labour is likely to progress so I would do things that normally make you feel calm or failing that just sit down :D

I was exhausted today and had a long nap when I got in so feeling a bit more human. Currently doubting my decision to stop at Christmas and wondering if I should work a few weeks in the new year to reduce the stresses on our finances. Every week helps but I worried I will be too tired, oh I just don't know!
