  • I have read that using a breast pump could help to start labour off, is this another crazy wifes tale or is there some truth in it? Cos the whole orgasms to start off contractions hasn't worked :(

Given antenatal expressing is now recommended for some women I should think it's an old wives tale.

Does anybody know if we are supposed to receive a payment plan type thing for our maternity pay? I havnt heard anything since I handed in my matb form ages ago. I'm due to start my holiday on Friday before my mat leave on due date, and work havnt told me anything yet :(

Had a really rubbish night last night. In bed for 10 still awake at 12, woke up countless time cuz I had rolled onto my back and once for a wee. And then my alarm went off at 6:30 :( I was not impressed

Hope everyone is ok and good luck to the boldies!!!

With DS I got a letter back off my HR department a couple of weeks after I sent them all the stuff confirming they had received it and how much SMP I would be getting and when I was due back at work.
This time I am not entitled to SMP, but applied for MA instead. Got a letter back off them detailing what I would be getting and how often.

Are you sure your HR department have definitely received it? I would of expected some sort of confirmation to be honest.

  • Amy- I haven't received anything at all from my employer apart from confirmation they have received my paperwork. Quite frustrating as I am having to wait for my payslip this month to check everything!

Hello ladies! I'm 24 weeks today so joining you from the smaller bump thread! Little boy due 10th February. :D

Been reading back and the talk about the perfect prep machine was so useful, thank you! Added it to our wishlist in case I struggle with BF, just hope the price drops by the time we'll need it. :)

Hi Flower! How's your little girl doing? :)

I'm doing OK ATM. Think I'm a little anaemic (CBA going to the doctor yet to confirm as I have vampire veins and blood tests drive me mad, last time it took about 9 people over 3 appointments to get anything!) which left me feeling exhausted last week but got some supplements and making sure I eat my greens this week so I hope to be feeling perkier in a few days. :) Baby seems happy enough, has a mad hour every morning and again in the evening where he does loads of kicks and flips which is lovely to feel! :)

I'm lucky (sometimes it is a curse...) that my OH is a real Type-A personality and has everything practically sorted. Our nursery is all set up, just need to add some pictures to the wall and relocate some bits that have been left homeless in the move around since the baby's room was our only spare room and we're struggling for space now! I only realised how weird we must seem when I visited a friend who is 32w and has hardly anything done and is really chilled about it! :o

It's tough though as we want to make sure we have everything we need we need for baby's first months but when my friends came round to see me last week they had a go as there's hardly anything left for them to buy us! :p We don't want to rely on gifts in case we don't get anything we need and we have no idea if they're thinking about spending £10 on a little outfit or £50 on a big toy. Ours is the first baby of the group so there's no gauge. :o It's like our wedding all over again... we love that people are so generous and buy us gifts but it can be quite stressful trying to figure out what people expect you to expect them to buy you IYKWIM! :o

    Hi,

I received confirmation after handing the form in (around 25weeks ish) and have since received a letter (at 38.5 weeks) confirming pay break down over the full time I'm entitled to. I work for a fair size organisation though so the HR dept are well versed in the mat leave system - not sure if that makes a difference or not (it shouldn't, but you know how things are).

This is day one of my mat leave - currently preparing to get rid of a lot of sorted OH's DS toys (after we convinced him keeping it in the house for 5yrs just in case the baby might want it wasn't our favourite plan - but kudos for trying)... and some of my (!) stuff from the early 90s. Not that I have ever hoarded, in any kind of way... :D

Hope everyone is doing well, hello to the newbies! Keeping an eye on all of you boldies... I'm feeling decidedly like I'm going to go over and possibly have a November baby. Fireworks?!

Hello ladies. thanks for all your news (and recipes!) and hope all well. Maybe I will become a domestic goddess when my mat leave begins in the new year and take up baking... more likely I will be a couch potato though!
One of my friends has offered to arrange a baby shower for me which is lovely, to be held at my Mums house (near mine) so I am just putting a guest list together (trying to work out if I'm obliged to include more family members as well as friends!). Feeling more positive today after a weekend of hormones and tiredness - most of the weekend was in bed or in tears even though things are good. Saturday night was nice though - visited friends with a 6month old (my godson) and 2 year old for fun with kids then relaxed dinner. I also took away a big bag of second hand baby clothes.
26 weeks tomorrow, and two months left of work.
    Best wishes to all xx
