  • Hi Ladies
Baby Patrick was born on Sunday by emergency CS. Went in to be induced on Saturday due to GD, waters broke sunday morning, so went up to labour ward, got to 7cm dilated (had epidural) but baby became increasingly distressed so was rushed into theatre for emergency CS, general anesthetic so I've no idea what happened. He weighed just short of 7lb so was a lot smaller than the growth scans had predicted.
Attempted breastfeeding but baby struggled with latching and I couldn't express anything (inverted nipples, agonising pain in boobs) so am now formula feeding. Been home for a day or so and am still getting used to things. Quite tearful at the moment still but that'll be the baby hormones and the huge amount of responsibility of having such a tiny little thing be reliant on you.

Anyone who has formula fed, have you used one of these? http://www.mothercare.com/Tommee-Tippee-Closer-to-Nature-Perfect-Prep-Machine/796566,default,pd.html?singlehit=true
Picking one up tomorrow (from toys r us where it's cheaper) as it seems to have good reviews and takes a lot of the stress out of making up formula.

I cannot believe how much of this post is similar to me at the moment. I went in Saturday to be induced but by 12:45 am Sunday I was going to the labour suite to have a c section as well, only difference being was that I awake for mine. My little girl was a lot less than predicated weight as well, though I didn't have GD.

I also attempted breast feeding and got on with it really well, until last night and snap have ordered the same product you have mentioned and have ordered it from toys r us as that's the cheapest place I could find it from too.

Hope you're recovery is going well, wishing you all the best.

I don't blame any of you ladies for being vague about dates and not telling people. I tried that with my first, but DH has the breaking strain of a Kit Kat and tells people everything. When I found out I was pregnant I said close family only i.e mums, dads and siblings. We were out in the car, very shortly after finding out and his mobile pinged, I checked it as he was driving and there was a congratulations text from his cousin!!

When I started having contractions he rang his parents (they are separated so 2 phone calls!!). They then proceeded to bombard him with calls and texts as the baby took her time and my cheeky MIL came to the hospital within 1 hour of the baby being born even though I said no visitors!!:mad: With a weak a$$ excuse that her nephew had hurt his knee playing football so needed to go to A&E. He played football on Sat morning, the baby was born on Sun afternoon!!
 I am always deliberately vague about the date to DH for that reason as I know that if he has the date fixed in his head he will accidentally tell people so I tell him whatever phrase I want him to use (eg "March or April" or "some time in July") so that that is the thing fixed in his head.

Congratulations! I always have the crying thing a few days after birth and it is horrible at the time but it will pass.

Hope you and your little one are well! How are you recovering from the C section? My scar is smaller than I expected, and I've been able to move around a fair bit (good thing as I was up and down all night last night with baby). I think the worst thing is my boobs which are still horribly heavy.
I feel incredibly guilty for not giving BF more of a go, but it was for my own sanity and for baby's health - he needed food and I couldn't provide it! The midwives on the ward were great, no pressure from them either way (not that I could say the same for the BF "consultants" who were useless and judgemental)

Congratulations Tiny! Feeling emotional is very normal but please take it easy you've been through so much by the sound of it xxx no experience of the perfect prep but I've one ready for when baby is here.

I feel sad that RL people are commenting on 'what a shock it'll be' yes having a newborn is overwhelming and even a bit terrifyingly but it's the most amazing experience EVER! The sleepless nights/ etc are so worth it for this amazing person YOU created! They change your lives forever but make everything so much more interesting.

Cloudy unfortunately I can only go to one of 2 consultant led units :( my local birth centre won't let me deliver there due to high risk. I hope you can go where you want to :)

No news from cleofish yet? Hope everything is ok. She posted at the weekend to say her waters had gone and was getting induced on Sunday. Hope she is just busy having lots of baba cuddles :)

She may still be in hospital and not have internet access. Or as you say just be distracted by her new baby. Baby must be here by now. We've not heard from Kanichen recently either?? She was due 29th Sept and posted fairly regularly.
Looked back at list before and if cleofish and Kanichen have delivered now then myself and lobey will have rapidly accelerated to the the top of the list
Why is it this makes impending birth seem more real than the weight of my belly, the indignity of sweeps or the cuteness of a moses basket near my bed?

Congratulations tiny! I've heard great things, from mum-friends of mine, about that perfect prep machine. One friend put it on her invaluable/must have list, cos she loves it so much. I think if I can't bf I'll be ordering one too ;)

I'm glad (not the right word, but you know what I mean?!) I'm not the only one getting ridiculous comments about a) pets and b) what we're "letting ourselves in for". I've had both right from the first trimester... As if the years of pining for and trying for this LO were spent being completely oblivious to the idea that our lives would change drastically (that's what we were hoping for!) and that dogs need to be trained/reassured/prepared for life with a baby!? If only I'd though about that 3 bloody years ago when we first started trying for this one...*rolleyes* The even more stupid thing is, when I explain (oh so patiently ;)) the measures that we've taken/will take with the pets, I then get equally idiotic responses like "oh yeah. I guess we did have dogs/cats/x animals when I was growing up...and we were fine..." Why ask stupid questions then?

I've also been vague about due dates and have been using months rather than weeks (gestation) with most people. Unfortunately my immediate family do know the exact date, and there's a lot of them, so they could be pretty annoying collectively if they all start harassing me! I was, at the time of telling them, remembering how much they forgot the exact date of my wedding (and how annoying I found that!), so was probably relying on that happening again a little too much...

I ordered something off @mazon the other day but needed something to tip it over for free delivery, so ordered a baby names (2nd hand) book too. Glad I did now, cos I've found/been reminded of names I/we like, so at least we have a few to work with now :) That's another detail that will be kept under wraps til birth though! Don't need other people's opinions on what to call my child, thanks! :naughty:

Congrats tiny. And everyone else who's popped :)

Well I'm awake as DD1 decided to wet the bed bless her. Quite hungry but can't get up as DH is sleeping downstairs as he gets a better night sleep doing that. Does mean I get the whole bed to myself though :)

Can't believe how quickly I've moved up the list. The last 2 pregnancies seemed to go so slowly but this one is so quick

As for the dogs comment, I've found if you let the dog sniff baby the moment you get home and don't ignore him/her then they will be fine with the newborn.

    Yikes number 3!!

Thanks all for laughing with me at my DH's friend, I'm sure he was trying to be supportive but it wasn't really what I wanted to hear! He also says he'll be over to the hospital as soon as he gets the text, I think not!! Even my parents have been told not to come until the next day as visiting hours are 4-7 and they have a 2 hour drive.

Thought things were kicking off last night, had pains under bump and shooting pains in cervix while baby was wriggling wildly. Sadly have woken up still pregnant! I feel like if if had the baby last week I would have worried less about the labour part and felt quite relaxed, now that I've had more time to myself it's becoming more scarily real! I just want it to happen now so I can stop imagining every eventuality!
  • I am due tmrw by my dates (hospital reckon 16th) I have no exciting to signs to suggest it will happen, no show or blood or change in discharge like with my first.
Just annoying backache, and b hicks :(

To add to my general grumpy mood my mum is going visiting friends over the weekend so she won't be here to look after my boy if I do go into labour, I found out via facebook friend! she didn't even tell me. So there is no one to look after my boy except his dad. I shall be giving birth on my own!!!

Very stressed and worried, various friends had offered to look after him - but when I spoke to them, they all have plans and didn't say the right stuff really, so they obviously never meant it, just said at the time to be nice or something.

    AArrgghh!

He is at nursery all day today so I intend to walk and be as active as possible, can't do any harm, just want it over with now :(
I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:
