    Yikes number 3!!

Thanks all for laughing with me at my DH's friend, I'm sure he was trying to be supportive but it wasn't really what I wanted to hear! He also says he'll be over to the hospital as soon as he gets the text, I think not!! Even my parents have been told not to come until the next day as visiting hours are 4-7 and they have a 2 hour drive.

Thought things were kicking off last night, had pains under bump and shooting pains in cervix while baby was wriggling wildly. Sadly have woken up still pregnant! I feel like if if had the baby last week I would have worried less about the labour part and felt quite relaxed, now that I've had more time to myself it's becoming more scarily real! I just want it to happen now so I can stop imagining every eventuality!

    Get well soon hugs x

Hi guys, sorry I havent managed to post till now, been or still I should say in hospital and just managed to find an internet connection!

Poppy jean was born sunday 6th (exactly 39 weeks) at 7.26pm weighing 7lb 12 (so a bit different to the 9lb expected)

I had started contractions after my waters broke myself on saturday, I tried everything I could to bring it on naturally but they werent regular enough.
we had an appointment for an induction on sunday, they didnt seem positive I was in labour (as when I went to triage saturday after my waters breaking they had said my cervix was high) despite me being in pain and already wearing my tens!

They examined me and I was already 3cm, I would def recommend using a tens for the beginning part of labour I found it really useful and it was good having something to control when the contractions came on.

They gave me the pessary to help me along and from that point on it all went a bit mayhem, the contractions were just one on top of another with no chance of a break in between. I went or needed gas and air straight away and it wasnt long before I went on the drip and eventually asking for an epidural (although she arrived before that point).

But I got there in the end, labour was nothing like I imagined or could have planned for but little one was in distress by the end (and born with the cord around her neck) and I hadnt had any sleep for at 36 hours so despite everything the main thing was getting her out as soon as possible resulting with me being cut and a ventouse delivery but although im sore it must have been needed to be done.

What I did feel for a good couple of hours afterwards was a detachment to her, I imagined after everything we have been through that I would instantly bond and feel emotional but that didnt happened and made me feel so guilty. But im happy to report that has now changed and im just amazed this little perfect person grew in my tummy!

We are in hospital as my waters had broke and it was longer than 24 hours before she was born and I had a temperature during labour.
Poppy has needed iv antibiotics which has meant a canula in her little arm which was heart breaking to watch but it seems the antibiotics are a precaution to make sure she hasnt picked anything up.

Really hoping to go home tomorrow, its strange last time I left my house I was having contractions and now im going to be returning with nearly a week old baby!

Regarding visting times, oh has been able to stay with me 10-8.30 which has been good, but what has been happening is little one gets lots of sleepy cuddles off oh and visitors and then they leave and im left with a screaming baby that wont sleep through the night, so even though oh is on paternity I havent had any help with night time feeds, but oh has promised he will do the nights when we are home. :)

Because of the delivery I didnt get skin to skin and, breastfeeding in my hospital consisted of someone grabbing my breast and shoving it in a screaming babies face, so from then on I was on bottle, which again makes me feel guilty but im hoping I might be able to at least express but we will have to see.

Wow mega long post can you tell I missed this?
Sending labour vibes and good wishes to all you ladies, sorry ive moved everyone up the list :) its all worth it in the end when your little ones are here. Will linger around waiting for the good news from you all.

Aww cleofish it sounds very traumatic :( glad she got here safely and you're both ok though, congratulations too :)

Re: cord around neck...this was mentioned at hypnobirthing this week, she said quite a lot of babies are born with the cord around their neck. If it's a water birth then it doesn't matter as baby doesn't take their first breathe until they are out of the water (they survived 9 months without air). If it's not a water birth, then you quickly unwrap the cord so baby can breathe properly. Although the cord can be a problem if it hinders baby coming down causing lack of progression during labour.

    Congrats Cleofish!!! Beautiful name too!

Sorry to hear about your experience of birth. I've had a really difficult time myself. I was readmitted to hospital just hours after being let out. I'm home now again but unwell and weak. I know the feeling with the night feeds. I found it so difficult in hospital after everyone had left. I was sore from the section with a cannula stuck in my right hand (as it failed in my left, less dominant hand) and struggling to be able to lift baby up.

Have to say, I love my baby so much but this has been quite possibly the hardest week of my life and I feel utterly shocked by how my birth turned out. As I said, it's completely not the norm so I am not here to scare anyone but I kind of wish I could go back and start again and hope for a better outcome than delivering my baby under GA.

I think I'm going to watch midwives and see what I think of it although I swore I'd never watch another midwives or OBEM again last week!

Hope everyone is feeling well and good luck for those close to their due dates. I'm lurking for annoucements but don't actually know at what point I'll stop!!!

Loving being a mum today. When I cuddle my boy I can't decide if it's more for him or more for me! He does scare me sh**less too though and he's a little night owl which is so so hard but boy is he gorgeous. We registered him today and I keep looking at birth cert and thinking he is real..look at his name by our names!!! So surreal!

  • Hi ladies,

Massive congratulations to Cleofish on the arrival of your little girl and to all the other babies I have missed.

Sorry for the long absence, I found the approach of October a little overwhelming but I'm feeling lots better now and at 39+1 can't believe how close we are to having this baby after the uphill struggle to get here. Everything is going well though and I'm really enjoying the last few weeks of being pregnant. Big thanks to Abi too for giving me the prod I needed to come back here :-)

TeamLowe, so pleased to be seeing you across here :-)

Hope you are all well? xx
