KScarlet, I knew it would be that hospital as that is my nearest consultant hospital too. Hoping to not need to go there as it seems so rubbish re visiting hours!0

Hmm OH has decided we're to travel all the way to Scotland for a spa break when I'm on maternity leave sometime in December when baby is imminent....it's an absolutely lovely idea, but I have a horrid feeling he is thinking of driving all the way up there. Anyone that's 35w+ been on a long car journey recently? I have a very neat bump for 28w and I don't think it's going to grow huge. Would really love to go for the spa break, it's in a castle, but want some opinions on whether anyone else would? It's a dream holiday and would be a perfect babymoon.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

How long would the journey take? If you do go, I'd make sure you stop regularly and walk around. You'll probably need the toilet anyway! I've had a few 3–4 hour trips in the last month or so and didn't find them too bad. That was driving and being a passenger. Probably easier to be the passenger as you can shift around in your seat more!
Will you be a long way from home if anything happens?! Make sure you take your notes and hospital bag!

Aww Amus, I just awww'd out loud
love the little sleepsuit too.
Locky - I think, if memory serves me right that Bristol to Scotland is somewhere between 7-8hrs. I'll definitely be taking my notes with me, that'd be a great one to tell everyone "oh yes, we gave birth on the M6"Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Oh god personally there is no way I would consider that journey now at 36+1 (as lovely as the break sounds!). I get very uncomfortable even just traveling for an hour, but I have had terrible trouble with my back and hips.
I think its something you would only really be able to tell quite last minute how comfortable you would be with that journey.
Amus - lovely picture

Kerri, no way would i have done that journey at 35/36 weeks, is there maybe somewhere similar a bit closer to home he could book?
Anyone watch midwives on monday? Omg that woman who kept wanting to discharge herself and ignoring all the doctors and midwives advice! I get that she was really scared but it seemed like she was just disregarding everything they said re her baby's health!0 -

Yes I watched that, was making me really quite cross! Even just the fact that she wouldn't stay on the machine so her babys heartbeat could be monitored! Yes your right she was obviously scared, but she was being given advice and told her baby was getting distressed yet she still seemed intent on going off outside!Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
Kerri - i did a 4 hour journey at the start of August and then again at the end of August and it was hard enough at that stage...no way I could do it now (36+5) definitely not twice the distance.
It is about 8 hours ish, dependent on where you're headed in Scotland, its about 8 hours from Bristol to us in central Scotland (my mum lives in Bristol currently) or longer if you take extra breaks.
I watched the midwives too, i get she was scared and i dont blame her, but i couldnt believe she was refusing all advice re. stillbirth, brain damage and signs of distress in the baby. then saying afterwards that she never needed the section, the outcome could have been so different, not just for the baby but for her as well!
Amus - she is gorgeous, i want one! hehe
