Stupid phone- just spent ages typing post then accidentally lost it!
Cut a long story short. 3rd attempt at sweep today- and cervix was open- hooray. 1cm the whole way. So midwife was able to do sweep. Felt no different from being examined tbh. Not the horrific experience everyone I speak to led me to believe it would be. Anyone who is worried about having one (or the internal exams in labour) please don't be. It was fine- doesn't hurt. And when you've been in labour for hours, you will want to know the contractions have done something.
Anyway, we have progress since Friday so I'm a happy bunny. Had a few twinges and have lower back ache now but either symptom could be due to being busy past couple of days. Have been active mowing lawns, sorting out DS's wardrobe, washing etc.
If nothing happens, I'll have another sweep Saturday. If that doesn't work waters get broken next week.

Abi really sorry to hear about your cat. Sending you hugs xx

    Hi all,

Just popping back to say hi, it is hard to believe that ds is almost 7 weeks. Congrats on all the new arrivals.

The time has just flown by and slowly but surely we are finding our feet.

@bz re breastfeeding we had a bit of a tough start, i have inverted nipples so DS couldn't latch so I left the hospital pumping and he was on a mix of formula and expressed milk. We then started using nipple shields to help he latch, which worked really well for the first couple of weeks until my milk supply dropped and his weight gain stalled. However for the last 3 weeks I have managed to wean him old the shields and he can now latch perfectly on one side and with some assistance on the other most of the time. It have been a very challenging process and but we have gotten there, his weight gain is back in track and he is now exclusivly breastfeed.

The hardest part of the process for me was dealing with the fact that my body was failing DS. That and the fact that as we has had such a struggle to establish breastfeeding I have t had a break as all the milk I pump is used that day. A lot of people told me that newborns nurse a lot but I never quite got my head around the fact that that meant anything between 8 and 10 hours a day! There were days when I just wanted to give up and accept that it wasn't going to happen but I am glad I didn't. I don't mean this to be a negative story, if anything I think if you really want to bf it is definitely possible even if you have difficulties initially.

The only thing I regret is not being better prepared, before ds was born I chatted to my consultant and a lactation consultant who advised there wouldn't be an issue so I was not prepared mentally for it.

@Abis so sorry to hear about your cat, that is awful

    Hi ladies

Just popping in briefly to say baby Daniel was born at 4 o clock yesterday weighing 7lb 4oz. He is adorable and worth every bit of the birth which didn't quite go according to plan! 2 tears and an episiotomy later I'm quite uncomfortable and can't quite believe I only managed on gas and air. Not bragging by any means if anything I wish I'd had an epidural in hindsight .... I don't think my pain threshold is as good as I thought. It might have been different if I'd had my water birth!! Never mind all over with now :)

Best of luck to all of you for your births, take care xx

Congrats Hopelass. Hope you recover soon. The fear of the unknown makes the prospect of labour quite daunting. I guess many of us will look back & think we should have made different decisions - but that's easy after the event.

Obviously I'm expecting a perfect labour, quick & will just need gas & air :). We all have a dream!

Baby was moving less last night & couldn't feel movement this morning. Had chocolate and iced water which triggered movement which was reassuring.

Went to the local midwife drop in session for a check & further reassurance & all was well. She said if I have concerns again to call the hospital triage number & see about going in for monitoring.

congratulations Hopelass! hope you have a speedy recovery!

lao - thank you for sharing your experience with BF, its interesting to hear about real life experiences, its reassuring to know that we can overcome a lot if we really put our minds to it :) ill certainly be giving it my best shot, im almost looking forward to it!

good appointment at the hospital this morning, baby is in just the right position, definitely lost my plug over the last day or 2, midwife next Thursday and hospital at 39+5.
brought up the fact that i thought my graphs were plotted wrong last time, and they confirmed they were and fixed them, so now theyve confirmed baby is right on track growth wise and is not a big baby as theyve been telling me! phew :) so now they have no worries and theyve stopped talking about induction at due date.
kinda a bummer at the same time since that means i might now still go overdue when i was prepared mentally to have our baby by 1st November really. nevermind! baby will appear when its good and ready.

hope everyones feeling ok, just waiting for news from our boldies :)

toothfairy - sounds the same as me, but its my right hip, was in agony last night but seems to be ok this morning, seems to come and go, i reckon it must be whatever the baby is lying on, for me it stems from my piriformis - fortunately hubby is a runner so has kinesio tape which really helps me (weve got a great chart with loads of pregnancy applications for all sorts of issues, its just really helps with that extra bit of support)

Haha yes she is a good babysitter and at the moment, doesn't have much of a social life in the evening. She's 5'8" already though and looks same age as I did (20), when I had her so I've told her she can't push little man in pram with me or I'll look like the Nan! Lol. I've made her watch midwives etc with me and she finds it totally disgusting so im hoping it'll be a good decade before I'm a nan.:rotfl:

Re: cleaning him, I'm still not sure if I'm supposed to move it or anything - some people say yes, some say no. I've heard putting a muslin over it can prevent him spraying me? I've changed my nephew before when he had wet ones but just kind of 'dusted' him over with a wet wipe. X

It will probably be hard in the first few days but you will find a method to suit! We used to buy a cheap box of tissues and use one everytime we changed him (or even loo roll!) just covering his bits so it kinda pointed it down or even helped stop it going everywhere. They also say once a boys bits feel the cold air they tend to pee so I used to open nappy and not remove it straight away just incase! With cleaning I don't tend to interfere too much, and I just leave that to DH LOL!! You'll be fine xx

Continual she is gorgeous :) I love your name choice ;) although my name isn't 'Scarlet' in RL its always a name I've loved xx

Lozza Mackenzie is gorgeous too :) xx

Kerri thanks for all your info from your class, quite a few things I didn't know x

Abis so sorry to hear about your cat, makes you wonder what is wrong with some people :( hope you are doing ok xx

Hopelass congrats on baby Daniel! x

I am sorry can't remember who asked about visiting hours, my hosp was rubbish when I had my son it was something like 10am-12pm then 2-4pm. It was 3 visitors max per bed so made it difficult when my parents and inlaws both turned up. Dreading visitors this time as I hated DH not being able to stay long :(
