When I went in with the toddler last week, my GP used Dr Google to find a picture of a typical rash to compare with hers!

Well my doctor wasn't much better!!

I saw a lady dr who went through all the relevant questions, and said it did look like slapped cheek. I have a slightly raised temp, but no cause for concern. She said she would arrange a blood test and speak to a senior doctor about whether I needed a scan for the baby.

The senior doctor came in and said that he wasn't sure if it was slapped cheek as I don't have a rash on my arms or chest and my temperature isn't high enough (even tho my face feels like its on fire because my cheeks themselves are very hot to touch). He thinks it might be an allergic reaction and blamed the amoxicillin I am currently taking for a UTI (only had amoxicillin 3 weeks ago and have never had a reaction before). The senior doctor thought slapped cheek posed no risks at all to pregnancy, which is not what Dr Google says.

The senior doctor told the other doctor to check google (!) and then ring the lab department to see what to do about blood tests.

The docs have just rang back after getting in touch with obs/gynae at the hospital, and they said that they had my bloods on record from my first midwife appt and they wanted to check that for antibodies to the slapped cheek virus. If that shows no antibodies - then they will then take a current sample to see if I currently have the virus. It just seems a bit crazy?? Why not just take a current sample today anyways? They said it would take til the end of the week to receive the results back from the old sample.

I know it poses no risks to me, and that there is no treatment available for me - I just need to keep an eye on temperature etc. But it does pose a risk to the baby if I do have it, and I would need further monitoring if I did have it. Its quite frustrating waiting tho :o

I would just like to be simple and not have these worries :p

From what I can tell it can often be asymptomatic (50% of adults have had it yet most people haven't heard of it plus the stuff I read said they should test if you know you've been exposed because of the fact it can be asymptomatic). I agree with you about the wait being frustrating but I guess they don't actually need from the point of view of potential monitoring/treatment to know immediately. I've had a blood test which will show whether I am immune or not and if not then the standard is to do another test a month after last exposure to see whether I have had it since the first test.

For anyone who saw my post before about OH having a job interview he called today to check and the guy said 'that someone had to rearrange an interview for today but just between you and me we will be calling you tomorrow for a second interview'

Its not a job offer but at least he stands a good chance as he's been narrowed down into a few people :D

Plus the way the guy speaks to him is so friendly ..like he's already a mate...so I reckon he might have a good shot now :)

Cant get my hopes up!!! :|

abis - I hope everything is ok. It doesn't sound too good but aren't some doctors just appalling! Fingers crossed it's not slapped cheek and you can stop worrying soon.

kayalana - it certainly sounds positive job wise. Best of luck, I hope he gets the job!!!!

Another sleepless night for me last night and OH. Poor fella is struggling as he has been working on our house, doing overtime, injured his back and now I am up all night. We don't have a spare bed for me to move to but in future I'm going to get up and come downstairs if it happens again. He did say he preferred me to be with him in bed and not alone even if I did keep him up but I am worried about him as I know I felt dog rough this morning and technically could have slept in till whatever time I wanted whilst he probs feels dog rough but still has to be up at 6am!

I hope baby comes soon so we can all be off together!!

Had a day with mum and sister today. We walked my sister's dog although I struggled because I needed a wee half way through said walk and the pressure was starting to get too much! Then we had lunch and speaking of bump talk the lady in the cafe started saying how huge I was and that never mind as big babies sleep better! That annoyed me but even worse her staff member was saying 'only a week to go..you can't tell' and she was making me come round the counter to show her colleague how massive my bump was! Although her colleague was much nicer!!

It's weird really. For the majority of my pregnancy I have been told I'm on the small side but then there are the odd few who say I'm huge! I have to say it smarts a bit! I know I am pregnant but it still feels like they are basically saying I'm fat!!!

Any one notice how absolutely every one asks about your baby? Even a young guy at the tip today told me to be careful and asked what I am having - girl or boy! I rather like it to be truthful - people have never been so nice to me!!!! (apart from when they diss the bump!!!)

Bigger babies sleep better? My second was more than a pound heavier at birth and she certainly hasn't slept better - quite the opposite!

Oh I know...my sister pointed out that her baby was under 6Ib (she had to be induced early due to pre eclampsia) and he slept like an angel pretty much from the word go!
  • Pfft strangers can be so nosey Bangton! Easier said than done to ignore people when they come out with things like that!

Have had a nice productive day, went to John Lewis and bought the Maxi Cosi Familyfix base for my car and last remaining bits for my hospital bag all sorted :)

Now I am finished work I would like another week to get the house scrubbed and after that baby can make an appearance anytime he wants lol :)

  • Hello everyone!

I'm new to the club but over 3 months and well I don't know where to start.

I am signing up to the baby clubs (doesn't seem to be as many as I thought but grateful for them) so I'm keeping my eye out for more.

Other than that, I'm not sure what I am meant to do. Looking to join here and learn. :)

Welcome to the thread cupoftea!! :D and congrats on your pregnancy.

There is another thread for 12-24 weeks of pregnancy if we are a bit advanced on this one (most are over 25 weeks and so we are all that bit closer to dropping). That's not to say your not welcome on this thread - you absolutely are!!! It's just I found it easier to moan and whinge with those around the same sort of stage as me and floated between this thread and the 12-24 weeks when I was at that stage.

Anyway here's hoping you've had a good pregnancy so far! I guess your not meant to do anything other than have a few weeks of growing bigger by the day, a few whinges and moans along the way are totally acceptable and occasionally we do find some offers for baby items so if you have started shopping this thread can be rather useful. I didn't find many baby clubs to join - in fact I did Asda and Boots and ran out but regardless I still managed to do all my baby shopping whilst seldom paying full price anyway so the baby clubs aren't totally necessary IMO!

    :D

Toothfairy - Welcome to maternity leave!! How good is having the freedom!!
