Fed up of not being able to sleep through the night. This time because my maternity bed mat is making my left side all sweaty! Is there any point in these really?! I doubt my waters will even break in bed and have potentially 5 weeks still to go. I think I'm going to take it off and sulk watching OH sleeping smugly as I get back to sleep in time for his work alarm to go off :( 36+6

It's difficult to say with any certainty but personally, I would hedge my bets on not needing it. Some ladies waters do break before the start of labour but I think most women's go well into labour, if at all, a lot end up having them broken.

Lurking from 12 week thread but noticed post about bed mats. When we got a new mattress I bought a tencel mattress protector and I have to say its the best investment I made - it's waterproof but without the normal nasty plastic, hot feeling. Wouldn't be without it now :)
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
  • Anyone who's taking raspberry leaf, are you having tea or capsules? Are the capsules stronger than the tea? I had a look in Asda for some teabags the other day but they didn't seem to have it...
I started off with the tea last time but ended up getting tablets off amazon as it was easier than getting DH to make the tea for me.

I've just got all the clothes my sister put away out of my parents roof space, I've filled my car! I need to go through it all and most is blue, although I have no problem with blue on a girl anyway. There's clothes all the way up to 2yrs+ :) is anyone else not bothered about blue on girls?
At 21 months, wearing almost entirely pink (which was actually unusual as I'm not a pink fan), a friend of ours mistook my eldest daughter for a boy so it's not like avoiding blue would avoid that kind of mistake and that's the only reason I can think of for avoiding blue.
  • Hi guys sorry to queue jump but my little boy arrived unexpectedly at 37+2 last Sunday. He was 7lb9 so who knows what size he would have been after 3 more weeks! It was a very quick labour - no contractions 20 mins apart just contractions at 2 in the morning a few mins apart. After less than 5 hours I had a lovely waterbirth. I was ringing the birth centre saying I think I'm braxton hicksing cos I thought contractions would be more painful but my waters had broke lol. one hour later I was in major pain!
Congratulations! Sounds like you had a lovely birth. :)
  • well i finally have my littlun, Harry James was born at 9.19 this morning weighing 6lb 15, ill post photos when i come out as had emergency c section
    Congratulations!

OMG I'm catching up on The Midwives and it's scaring the hell out of me!! I've already got one so I know what to expect, but still getting very nervous!

And there's a dad taking pictures of the baby when only it's head is out. I think I'd lamp DH if he tried to do that!!! She's trying to push and he's flashing away!!

She's a bit bonkers mind she was fussing about fake tan and putting on her make up?!?!
I'd be quite interested to see what it looks like but I'm not interested enough to have someone faffing around taking pictures at the time.
  • Congrats BeNiceToMyself and Jess! We all seem to be moving rapidly up the list now

Thanks for the advice on the raspberry leaf tea everyone. Got some of the teabags yesterday but might get some capsules as well in case I get sick of it!

Off to get the isofix base today and hopefully install it :) have some john lewis vouchers to use up. Think that will be us pretty much sorted once we have that :D

Just popping on quickly to ask about slapped cheek syndrome. Does anyone know an adult who has had it and indeed a pregnant person?

I have very red cheeks (one more than the other) which are >very< hot to touch. I feel (mostly) ok in myself (who knows what are pregnancy niggles or the UTI niggles, or the upset tummy from antibiotics...), no temperature etc. I haven't definitely been in contact with anyone else with the illness, but I work as a facepainter so am in close contact with children most weekends and I wouldn't be aware if anyone did or didn't have the illness as I wouldn't see the majority of the children afterwards.

I rang the NHS helpline thing, who had a doctor ring me back and he said to just keep an eye on it and see if my symptoms worsen.

Am just a bit worried what with being pregnant n all :o

I think it's most likely to cause problems in the first 20 weeks ( and as I'm only 15 weeks I didn't read in detail about later exposure) but AFAIK they should be doing a blood test to check. NHS choices advises seeing your GP (or MW).
  • Well my little girl arrived the early hours of Sat morning! Abigail Marie, 7lb 6oz. Home now, but still tired and sore after forceps delivery. Will post full birth story once I have time! Congrats to all the other births too.
Congratulations! We really are having a glut of babies.
