BWP - all fine now thank goodness. She is the most accident prone child ever tho for things like this!!!
Ani - Glad all was fine in the end - so scary when baby isn't behaving tho!
Sooooooo - I accidently might have just fallen in love with a travel system.... I was all set to use mine from DD, only one just popped up on the local selling sites and I am smittenThis doesn't usually happen to me
Its a quinny buzz 4 travel system in my most favourite colour - yellow :j Which will match my lovely yellow car :j Has anybody got any tips on how to fall out of love - or shall I just go crazy and buy it??? :rotfl:
I'm not very good at falling out of love in these situations - I'd say go crazy and buy!!!! Especially if you love the colour!0 -

I'm assuming he is not entitled to paternity leave then in which case he has the right to take it after the baby comes?
How mean of his work not to let him have holidays when baby arrives.0 -
No, not entitled to paternity leave as he's only been with the company since April (unfortunately, he was there before but because he had 7 months away, it doesn't count). So he's getting next week, then can't take any leave until 14 Oct. baby due tomorrow, sweep some point next week, induction booked for 2nd Oct....0

Bride to be I hope your baby arrives soon! From what midwives and the NCT teacher have been saying its relaxing that starts off labour or the oxytocin surge. Maybe try a calming CD or just sit down with your feet up totally relaxed thinking your baby out. Worth a try I reckon?!0

Back from seeing midwife, all is well with baby but I had a trace of blood in my urine sample
she is sending it away to get tested and thinks i might have the start of a UTI. Now furiously drinking water to fend it off!
Bride2b, that sucks. Not very nice of them to turn down his request knowing what the time off was for. Hope baby makes an appearance asap!

Can they refuse paternity leave if he is taking it as unpaid leave? Not sure if this is financially viable for you, just wondering out loud. What happens if you went into labour and he took you to the hospital and didn't go to work?
My boss just had a baby and he came to work the week after as his MIL was with his wife and he's took the week after when MIL had gone so his wife had some help for the next couple of weeks so would that be an option?Got married 13/11/10

Seems we all had midwife appts today. Back from mine as well. 39+3 today.
Had loads of movements last night on/off for like 2 hrs, so mentioned I was concerned re being in the wrong position. So midwife had a really good feel of my tummy and was very convinced baby is head down, I did ask if she was sure and that wasn't a bottom or anything, lol, yes I'm in panic mode sorta, don't want a breech baby.
She said baby's back was to the left and the movements I had last night could of been it shifting side/side and bringing its legs up so could of see the knees etc pushing my tummy out etc.
Was given some clary sage to use. Anyone else tried this? Was told I could use it every night if I wanted or twice a day etc, can either massage it into my tummy or put some onto a tissue to breathe in.
See her next Tuesday if go over my due date which is next Monday. She is keen to get baby here next week as my hubby possibly might be working away week beginning the 30th and of course I am from Australia so don't have anyone else I want to be with me when I'm in labour and definitely don't wanna be on my own.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

Yes - you only get the right to take the leave after 6 months service.
The only right that he could take would be for emergency dependent's leave, for example if the wife was ill after the labour and unable to care for the baby. (would only apply after baby born) Even this right is only supposed to be used to arrange care, not provide care.
Worst case scenario if hubby just took wife to hospital this could if the employer was being mean be classed as unauthorised leave and lead to disciplinary action etc. There is no right to time off just because your partner goes into labour unfortunately.
I work in HR and used to work for a mean employer, who would try and block people's leave in all sorts of situations like this if I didn't reign them in!
My OH just started a new job, so we won't get any paternity pay and will be relying on their generosity to let him have some time off. Luckily I know when it is happening as it's a planned section0 -

34+3
Hey - I got some advice from a colleague at work today about slings and wraps etc. - her DD is nearly 3 and she is part of the local sling library group so has tried and tested many. This is my first (I'm 34+6) so can't give my own opinion but found the advice pretty useful. Here are some snippets (it was a 1500 word email...):
- Stretchy wraps are the most recommend amongst the sling library group for newborns, pre-tie on to you and pop the baby in and out as necessary, changing their position to be upright after feeding which they prefer. Examples are Moby, Boba etc. If you are not going 2nd hand then there is a site called slumber-roo which might have a 10% discount code 'blossom' that works (not tried it so don't know if it does or not) but plenty of other stores sell them too!
- At least two wraps for 'from-birth'/newborn as you'll probably want one whilst the other one washes/dries after the inevitable spillages
- Stretchy stage ends about 35lbs according to the labels etc. but they get less supportive/comfy after the first 3 months or so (I imagine this is dependent on the size/growth speed of your baby though) so then either a woven wrap or something with buckles
- Woven wrap = versatile and supportive, but learning the various different carries takes some practice. Buckles were my colleagues preferred option because of how quickly babies/children can be taken in and out and how secure they feel. There is one called Tula that she recommended that can be used from 5 months or from birth with a separate insert - would last until around 18 months.
- after this time, if you are still planning on carrying regularly then a toddler/pre-school carrier would be best to move on to
- Soft Structured Carrier (SCC) recommended over a Baby Bjorn style carrier because the seat is much wider, giving knee-knee support so the baby can be in the 'froggy' position. Bjorns tend to dangle from the crotch which is bad for their hips and also not comfortable for the parent (they hang from your shoulders not wrapped around your centre of gravity).
- SCCs you can carry on back and front (back from 5/6months when they can sit unsupported).
- Does not recommend any sling/carrier that if front carry facing forward/outwards as it isn't a natural position for them, doesn't promote good hip development and is not comfortable for the parent. (These are her recommendations remember, I don't know if these are supported facts but assume she knows what she is talking about).
- Don't feel put off if there is a lot of grumpy twitching/moaning when in the sling, doesn't necessarily mean they don't like the sling - just means they are probably bored and want some movement or something new to look at!
- BF - slinging from birth good as easy access to boob and skin to skin contact promoted.
As I say.... That was a snippet!! I found it really useful having someone that had experience passing on advice, but I still guess it will differ from person to person and their preference - and also from baby to baby and their preference!
Hope someone else found that a little bit useful. I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed with the choices and brands and selection out there and I have NO idea where to begin!
On another note, I have a growth scan tomorrow because the midwife thinks my last midwife measured wrong or my baby didn't grow from 31-34 weeks. I'm obvs hoping it is the initial thought... but a colleague that is 3weeks ahead of me also got told her measurements were cause for concern - went for the scan, was told everything was fine and that it was all a big error on the last reading. Bit of stress I could do without right now to be honest.
I was wondering - the midwife appointments that you've all been having so far, have they been with the same person? I have had 6 different people so far, never the same one twice. Feel like I'm just going in to drop my pee in a bottle off and then go home again... Not talked about a birth plan, anything really. All seems a bit - ad hoc.
Apologies this post turned out to be so long!!0
