I am watching midwives, they're showing a stark contrast between a woman panicking and a woman that's completely calm. I don't think I recommend the part I'm on for women that are scared of labour, maybe skip the woman in pink if you plan on watching it :)
Being calm makes a big difference - I could feel the difference in my contractions depending on whether I remembered to be calm and relaxed or not.

I'm hoping that hypnobirthing and various breathing techniques will help me to be relaxed and calm but will have to see what happens when the pain kicks in!!

Make sure your DH is on board and knows enough about it - that was pretty key for me as at certain points I started to panic and he was able to be calm and remind me of the right things because he knew about them too.

Yep, don't worry, I dragged him along to all five classes and he knows what to do! I've been impressed how much he's taken on board actually :)

I read today that nesting usually kicks in during the third trimester... I'm really hoping so! :rotfl: At the moment, "baby's room" is definitely still a "box room"... in the very literal sense

Tried to talk DH into getting tickets for the baby show but he's having none of it. Oh well, I'd only be tempted to spend too much / buy things we don't need anyway.

Our NCT antenatal classes start in a fortnight... when I booked them they seemed so far away and so close to baby's arrival

We were the same until recently, the baby's room was a junk room! But after a few weekends of hard work (painting, cleaning, organising!) we finally have a nice pretty nursery! Just don't leave it too late, by the time I hit about 32 weeks I was to knackered to help and OH had to do a lot of painting on his own! :rotfl:

Hope you enjoy the NCT classes, I'm really enjoying mine and so is OH, it is very interactive and friendly.

Well done for reaching V day bigzippy!

I watched that episode of midwives last night, but I still can't work out if it was a good idea or not! Didn't have any nightmares but was certainly a bit more concerned after watching that awful panicking girl. I hope I can try to stay calm and have a nice water birth like the blonde lady (without the gender mix up lol, that was cute!)

Re. Stretch marks, I had none on my tummy until about 4 weeks ago and now I'm covered in them! Have been using Palmer's stretch mark lotion, not because I think it'll actually prevent them but because it feels nice and soothing (they itch!) Will continue to use it until it's all gone and then start on the Bio Oil again after baby is here as I know it really does help scars fade faster from experience.

It is cliche but staying calm during Labour does make a lot of difference.

I know when I started off in Labour as the pain was getting worse I began to get a bit hysterical and then the midwife came over and reminded me to just focus on breathing, and once I managed that I found I went sort of 'into' myself and became very calm for the rest of the time.

Can be easier said than done though!

I was very impressed by DH as he usually isn't good under pressure but he was amazing.

    **unlurking from 12-24 week thread**

I was surprised to see the midwifes last night letting all the women lie flat on their backs. Only making it harder for yourself there ladies!! Surely that's the bonus on not having an epidural that you can move about and try different positions to see what's working best.
It was only near the very end of labour did they move them onto their side etc..

I've already told my OH that there is no way I am going to give birth lying flat on my back, we're hoping to go to the birth centre where they encourage you not to be on the bed.

We listened to the rainbow cd for the first time last night, OH was asleep within 5mins...I got to the end of the CD and was still awake!!! Whoops. OH is coming along to all sessions so he's fully prepared. He's really looking forward to being a key part of the birth rather than just holding my hand and looking like a wally.

  • Agree I was surprised by that too. No way will I be on my back if it can be avoided! Only the blonde water birth lady tried different positions, and she was also the only one who had skin to skin and delayed the cord clamping. She is now my hero!
