  • I had a visit from the heath visitor on the 6th when I was 37 weeks. I'd had a letter in August about it. The purpose was to introduce herself and explain the service, that's what it said in the letter.

The actual visit did involve that as well as her asking q's and filling in forms. She never looked around my place, which I thought she would and felt like everything had to look just right.

She also said they like to do this visit before baby is here so when she comes back when baby is between 10-14 days old they don't have to do all the form filling in as well which just = staying longer.

She was only here about an hr.

Well I am 39 weeks today and not feeling too bad really. Was a bit scared over the weekend as my friend went into too much detail about her daughters birth and it really frightened me making me think I wanted to request a c-section. I see my midwife Thursday so will mention how I feel just so she is aware more than anything.

  • Anyone planning on formula feeding, do we need to bring our own into hospital? What is best to get if so? Have seen some ready made bottles but mostly it seems to come in cartons... Confused!

Poppy, i feel weird not wearing mine now :( DH isn't bothered and keeps telling me not to be silly when i say it feels wrong not to be wearing them lol.
  • Oh no continualdiamond, i'm sure your friend meant well but that's not very helpful is it?? Just remember everyones body is different and your likely to just get on with it when the time comes. I don't really see a c-section as an easy option, recovery is so much longer afterwards. Obviously if its needed to ensure baby's safety then i'm all for it but hoping to avoid!

Re: Ik3a furniture, I've got a chest of drawers that's not going to last for a 5th move in 3 years. I think they're fine if you leave them where they are, and most definitely bigger than most others. But if you want to move them, they don't like it very much.

Oh dear that wasn't very helpful of your friend!! I would mention it, more than anything just so they know more than anything else.
I was about 2 minutes away from having to have forceps delivery with DS and that keeps playing on my mind and the thought really terrifies me. I mentioned it to midwife last week and she talked it through with me and put it in my notes just so the midwife who delivers this baby is aware of my fears.

  • Toothfairy, I ff my lo and was given ready made bottles in hospital, im pretty sure most will have these but prob best to check. The bottles with the teats are quite pricey, I came home with a few bottles which helped with the first few feeds at home then I got stuck into trying to work out how the sterilizer worked.lol

  • I haven't worn my wedding ring for over 2 yrs now, I think I've lost it :( I took it off when I was pregnant in 2011 and haven't seen it since.

Ikea furniture all the way, DD1's room has big chest of drawers and a wardrobe. We've got bed, Malm chest of drawers, two tall wardrobes and Malm bedside tables. They are fine as long as your DH is capable of putting the stuff up!! He's a bit slap dash and we have a bookcase where one of the shelves is upside down!

My HV came to the house a day or two after DD1 was born and she came back last week for her 18 mth check!! I have seen her since as she used to run the breastfeeding group on a Wed and the baby group on a Thurs, but that was more for tea and biscuits. She's never judged my house and has only been in the living room.

  • There are signs up around our hospital saying they don't provide formula so you have to bring your own (only the cartons or bottles as there's no facility for making up powder). However, if you attempt breastfeeding and it doesn't work they'll give you some formula.

Up all night feeling sick, seems like morning (ha!) sickness has returned. Managed to sleep from about 5-10, at least I was off work today. 4 more days in work til mat leave starts.

I was thinking about buying a pack of ready-to-use formula like below to take to the hospital in case my plan to breast feed doesn't work:

  • Thanks guys, I think i will buy some of the ready made bottles to bring just incase. Still undecided whether to try breastfeeding for at least the first few days, but would rather be prepared.

Has anyone else not had any antenatal classes? My NHS ones got cancelled a a week before they were due to start which meant i was then too late to join the NCT ones :( are there any good online ones i can watch? I wasn't too bothered but have had people react with horror when i say i've not been to any!
