After the Thalidomide scare all those years ago I am simply not comfortable taking anything in pregnancy (although have had to resort to paracetamol on ocassion) so that includes this vaccine.
I agree with the majority of your reasoning about the vaccine (and indeed I'm baffled as to why the logic of, "it's been fine with three year olds so is fine for pregnant women" is applied to vaccines) but just to reassure you and anyone else about medication in pregnancy, thanks to what happened with thalidomide, they are very careful about what medications they give to pregnant women and although they can't do randomised controlled trials of medication in pregnancy (which is what they would have to do for the manfacturer to be allowed not to put "do not use if pregnant"/"consult your Dr if pregnant"/"not safe in pregnancy"), it is possible to do studies based on when women have taken medications such that there is a lot of safety data available for many of them so if a Dr does prescribe a medication they have a good idea whether there are risks and if there are any then they would be able to discuss them with you. I realise you weren't advocating not taking prescribed medicines in pregnancy but I also know that a lot of women are put under pressure not to take medication that is of benefit to them and their baby by our societal notion that medicines in pregnancy are dangerous.

Has anyone been drinking raspberry leaf tea prior to 37 weeks? At my last app mw said 1 cup a day from 34 weeks building up to 2 or 3 at 37. I'm now 35+6 and have been having regular braxton hicks for a couple of days now. It's probably more in relation to baby's recently violent flurries of movement but I wanted to be on the safe side. Dr google is coming back with a few different results! X
  • lobey, i was planning on starting it at 36 weeks. Not to induce labour but apparently it makes your uterus stronger and contractions more effective. Have heard conflicting advice saying to start between 34-36 weeks.

My sister drank loads of it and had a lovely, quick, 4 hour labour with her first. May be a total coincidence but i am willing to give it a go. I quite like green teas etc anyhow and thought it tasted nice when i had a sip of my sister's.
  • all sorted now and enjoying my last couple of baby free days, what did others do with themselves on the last few days, induction is booked for 2pm Thursday and so excited.

i didn't have any antenatal classes as midwife told me several times she had booked me in and then when it came down to it she hadn't and it was too late then, doesn't bother me too much as im pretty happy to just go with the flow of things.
Started comping again....Oct wins already!:£250 philosophy goody bag, £50 itunes voucher, £30 amazon voucher.....why did i ever stop!
  • Oh how exciting jessica! Thanks for the reassurance re classes as well, will just watch a few episodes of OBEM/midwives instead lol.

Jessica that's fab news! Good luck with it all. I bet your feeling relieved!!! :D

Thanks for all the replies regarding Ikea furniture. Sister and I put it up today and I'm thrilled with how it looks. We went with the Brusali drawer set which is on the small side but just about fits all of baby's things in (although we have an awful lot, especially for baby's early days which will soon be worn, bagged up and passed on).

Continual - agreed. Such a mean thing to do to someone so close to giving birth for the first time. You just have to remember women do this all day, everyday with varying levels of pain threshold and the one thing in common is they get through it through whatever means necessary. You WILL too. What happens happens. It is totally natural to fear pain and wonder if you'll cope.

I had a wobble at 30 ish weeks about giving birth but I think my true worry stemmed from agreeing to work to my due date and worrying I'd be around people I wasn't that close to. Now I'm around home and my own family (brought maternity leave forward) I feel a lot calmer knowing my OH and everyone around me has got my back!

I also had an op last year, which while not the same was so truly painful and horrid (the aftermath took 3 months to recover) I've come to realise that actually whilst ever painful something is you can deal with it because you have no choice. Remember your body and mind are equipped to deal with this :)

I could just give you a big hug. I'm rambling on now because I don't want to think of someone feeling so scared over childbirth because being pregnant is hard enough. We are nearly at the end sweetie and then we'll know for ourselves! I swear if mines easily I'll make sure I tell every pregnant women so so as not to frighten them!! :D

My last one was brilliant - DH thought it was so great that he wanted to go round telling everyone that you don't actually need to push and your body just does it automatically and that they should have a doula.

With both my full term pregnancies I mostly just lay about doing nothing but if I was well enough and it was my first I'd probably do things that are much harder to do post-baby like go to the cinema.
  • Saw the consultant today and I'm getting growth scans so I'm happy as that was the thing I wanted.
  • Thank you to those that replied re my friend scaring me. Been lovely to read your replies, really appreciate it.

I keep reminding myself that this pregnancy has been pretty straight forward and therefore have no reason medical wise why the birth shouldn't. I've needed no iron tablets, never had high blood pressure or anything shown up in my urine, got the all clear for diabetes, haven't had my feet or hands swell and been able to wear my wedding & engagement ring the whole time and have generally felt really well after the initial trimester once morning sickness passed.

I've never heard of the raspberry leaf tea thing. Going to look it up now, as silly as it sounds I want baby to be born in September. Don't like the idea of going over, but more so don't like the idea of going into a different month. Just think I have always prepared myself that it's a September baby, never thought about it being an October baby, just doesn't sound right, hahaha.
