I got these to take to hospital in case I needed them - seemed the least hassle!

Or even more infuriating is when they get what you asked for but give you something else and then give you the thing you wanted at a later date when you've already bought it yourself - it drives me mad.
My mother in law made a point of asking me if I was going to want to dress the kids the same when I was pregnant with the second (obviously with an 11 month age gap some people would think it was cute)... I said no, I really wanted to make sure they got their own identities and not treated as some kind of fashion parade (yep I'm a sucker for cute "different" clothes but hopefully you get what I mean)... she keeps going out of her way and making a big thing about how hard it's been to find this stuff - and buying them identical outfits - ggrrrrrrr.
I keep making a point of sending photos of them ONE in the outfit she's bought them at a time but it really grates on me that she made a point of asking and then ignoring.
With formula in hospital you really need to ask your midwife what the deal is in your area. Our hospitals carry cow and gate and SMA with the ready to drink bottles and disposable teats - but minimal facilities for sterilising own stuff (basically they have milton tubs for those longer-termers needing to do breastpump parts mainly), but other hospitals have nowt, or machines vending it or whatever - you really have to explicitly ask or they won't tell you for fear of being seen to be "pushing" you to a feeding decision.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Hi all,
Got some bargains at the weekend that I thought I'd share:
If you buy a Kiddicare cot / cot bed it comes with a half price mattress.
Ikea 20p tea towels - more absorbent and softer than any muslins I've found so far and dead cheap in comparison!
Ikea small plastic bin £4.50 - v similar to little nappy bins in baby shops but much cheaper (just needed something small to put nappies in during night time changes!)0 -
Re: baby thermometers, I found a forehead strip one in Asda yesterday in the £1 section. I thought it was a bargain, cos I've seen them for more than that even cheaply online, but also thought of you ladies that were umming and ahhing about whether to get one. I have digital ones (ours) for when they're older, but babies and "normal" thermometer's don't mix well, I've found
Hth someone.
I had the same concerns about not taking gifts for granted/making sure we had what we needed...then my mum had a strop that there was nothing "fun" left to buy! I'd always assumed we'd be buying the big things and people may get us clothes/toys when it's born...there seems to be some unwritten parent rule, I didn't know about, that says they have to buy something big they can show off about thoughAs DH is now an orphan, his Aunt has bought the pram system - very nice of her but I wasn't expecting it, she offered
I still ordered it for the cheapest price possible though - she couldn't believe it when I said how much
Sister is giving us a handmedown cot. Are they the things parents like to buy? We don't have anything else other than handmedowns sorted, so it's not like we've bought loads, but to speak to my mother you wouldn't think that
I think I'll give her the options of moses basket, travel cot, play mat/jungle gym and high chair. See if they're "fun" enough! It doesn't help that when I did go round baby shops looking at everything, she pooh-poohed almost everything in that "oh however did we manage to keep our kids alive without these(!)" way. *rolleyes*
On the subject of taking things back people have bought you, I wouldn't hesitate. I have been known to do it/regift birthday/christmas stuff bought for us tooMy family are pretty good/lazy about buying presents from wishlists though - I think it comes from coming from a big family, we were always told to write a wish list for christmas/birthdays (with Argos catalogue numbers to boot!
) as kids
I think it's just the initial new baby stuff that people will like to surprise us with. I have made sure the handmedowns include enough neutral vests and babygros to be going on with though, and will just buy the coming home outfit and sleep/pram/snow suit for now ourselves. There's always a massive baby event in the supermarkets in January (when baby's due) anyway
Btw, didn't we have a lady that thought she was in labour on friday..?

I'm taking them back... the gifts. I feel really devious though! Tomorrow I'm going to have a shopping day while joiner and brother are here. I love my Bro but he has an attitude problem lately and I'm pregnant and also have an attitude so I've just realised I need to go out! ! I want some little twig lights and a big vase for when baby and me are up in night. Something that lights the room but not too much so it kills some time. I've been cleaning this afternoon. ..4 hrs on one room because I keep sitting down to eat/drink/pant. It's bloody clean though! !0

Amazon have the jumperoo for £53.11 with the family voucher it was £43.11. I couldn't resist even though I'm not sure it's good for their little hips.
However it's baby's only Christmas gift so I'm happy to have made a start on Christmas.
I'm soooooooo bored waiting for baby now, due Thursday and the time is dragging. I have cleaned the house, I even sorted all out of date medicines and recycled a lot of random packaging for products we haven't had for years. I'm not sure what's left until the builders come back as finish their work.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
What do you do just ring Kiddicare customer services and ask them to price match?
You order from Kiddicare & then e mail the details of the cheaper one & they refund the difference + 25%. Haven't experience of this yet as only done it today.
Someone on the baby bargains thread said they did this last week & got the confirmation of refund from Kiddicare within 24 hours.
How do you get the Amazon family voucher? I thought I had signed up (got the free Prime trial), but haven't had anything. That said I haven't ordered anything expensive from them either.
Just been out for a drink with a friend. He has a 1 & 4 year old. He brought a baby carrier & 2nd stage car seat which they no longer need. Result! Was thinking about trying a baby carrier but didn't know which - so will give this one a go! Car seat can go into the garage until needed. He also had a first stage car seat & base but turned this down as we are sorted with that. Very kind of them & appreciated!0
