I've not needed Calpol for jabs, the only meds my little one has had is some cough meds Tixylix I think it was, some saline drops for when she had a bit of a cold, I found Sudocrem wasn't any good for us, we prefer Metanium Everyday or Johnsons Nappy Cream. We had a tube of Bepanthen from when DH had a tattoo (recommended to keep the tattoo moist) and that made my LO really sore and the nappy rash was angrier, I think it is too strong. Also I haven't needed anything for colic so I didn't buy anything like that. I did buy some Gripe water to help with burping, but she didn't really need it. We also bought some Teetha powder, but only used it twice. We haven't had cradle cap.
We've got a thermometer, but the only time I've used it was when I took it out of the box to try it out.
I got some maternity pads from Boots, this varies from mum to mum. I think I needed about 4 packs in the end, but sent DH out to get some after I'd used the two packs I had.Got married 13/11/10

I assumed by pantyliners- she meant for later stages of pregnancy to stay fresh and dry ahem tmi- not maternity pads for afterwards?
We didn't need calpol after jabs either but bought some in case on advice of nurse. Used many a bottle since tho. I agree about Bepanthen being too strong. Sudacrem if we used it we used tiny amounts. Have only used free sample size tubs in two years. Recently tried Johnson's nappy cream and it worked fine too, nice and gentle.
We used gripe water too yes- forgotten about that. And anti-colic bottles. What worked I don't know but at the time we'd have tried anything lol.2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013

Good luck NoAngel!
Congrats on all the new babies! Haven't logged on in a while and it's taken me aaages to catch up!
Courgette - I love the name Atticus, reminds me of Gregory Peck in to Kill a MockingbirdLovely.
Can't believe i'm no 26 on the list! I was getting very comfortable in the 40s and now I've shot up there! Eeeek!
Getting really excited about giving birth now, my NHS and NCT classes start in Sept so the geek in me is looking forward to learning lots!
Woke up with a dead hand today/ pins and needles and now my hand hurts and I can't grip properlyhoping it's temporary.
Went to antenatal triage yesterday after seeing some blood for a few days, got hooked up to the monitor and examined and all fine, so they're just putting it down to 'one of those things"! Bit of a waste of time but I suppose it's always better to get checked out. Plus it was nice to have some reassurance that all's normal and baby is happy.

I pretty much have written my birthing plan, just needs to be actually written on the back page of my notes as I just wrote down notes onto a piece of paper so I could talk things through with her.
To me it seems a bit pointless coming to see me Monday at home when I have an appointment at the clinic anyway on the Thursday. It should be my 38 week appointment but going in at 37+3 as she couldn't fit me in the following week.
Fluffysox - I'm guessing you're a teacher? I'm a teaching assistant and work in a special needs school. I could never been a teacher, the amount of extra that is done away from work is unreal. I'm not saying my job is easy, it's not, I was moved classrooms with 6 weeks to go until the end of the school year due to behaviour of a pupil that was then deemed an unsafe classroom for me.
Thank you for the tips though re surestart etc. Things like this I need as my family are all back home in Australia and hubby is an only child. I don't have a close relationship with my inlaws, I get on with them okay but that's it. I don't want to fall into the trap of being on my own with a baby all day every day in the house with no adult contact.
I think my baby is laying across, though I'm no expert of course so could be totally wrong. I only say that because I get big movements across the middle of my tummy and can then feel a hard lump on one side which I tend to assume is the head whilst then getting movements on the other side of my tummy and assume its feet kicking out at me. I guess I'll find out more next Thursday on that one.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

AFAIK they would need to do a proper GTT to diagnose gestational diabetes so doing a blood test an hour after eating some random food is pretty meaningless and would just be delaying diagnosis as they would subsequently need to do a GTT. From what I have read, the main reasons for them wanting to diagnose it would be so that they can do growth scans (to avoid baby being excessively large), so they can monitor the baby's blood sugar after birth to avoid them becoming hypoglycaemic and to control your blood sugar during pregnancy to reduce the risk of the above two problems so I can't understand why they would choose to delay potential diagnosis by adding an extra step especially so close to term.nessie216 I can't see the point of that blood test. If they are concerned why aren't they referring you for GTT where you have a fasting blood test followed by consumption of a known quantity of glucose and then another blood test two hours later. I've had glucose in urine 3 times this pregnancy- and I always do sample before breakfast. Two GTT tests so far both come back normal. If they try to make me have another I'll scream. DS was big 9lb 10 so had to have blood tests on his first day poor baby- his were normal too but because he had to have 25ml of milk every four hours, an hour before heel pricks, he was never satisfied with the amount of breast milk he got afterwards.
I don't see the point in the test either - the way the midwife explained it was that I shouldn't have to do a blood test until 2+ was showing in pee ( but I am high risk with a high BMI) - the consultant didn't really make things clear! (Her accent was hard to understand too!)
I have already had a GTT a while back (can't remember weeks) but that came back normal
Consultant said that if the blood test came back under 7.8 nothing would happen - she was unclear about what would happen if it was over 7.8 - she said I had to chase for results too - I presume if it is over 7.8 then I would do another GTT?
I know I won't be eating fruit for breakfast - there is me trying to be good & eat something healthy & it backfires on me! I reckon scrambled eggs on toast will do - a day off so I get a 'proper' breakfast!
Antenatal class was really good - got a 'view' of the wards of hospital (DVD) spoke about labour - pain relief - what to pack - car parking issues - things that can go wrong - what happens after birth in hospital - how to bath baby - how to change nappy - how to look after cord - what health visitor does - baby poos - bit on breast feeding
An informative day - most of it I knew (not bit bout not allowed to take baby wipes to hospital!) but nice to have someone talk it through & DH got to ask his questions!
Exhausted now & got one swollen ankle!

Nessie - I was told anything over 7.8 and I'd be referred to the diabetic clinic and that I would be contacted pretty quickly as within 2 days as they'd want to get me in to see someone soon so I could get it sorted to monitor sugar levels etc.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

Yeah I think that's it. I wake up with numb hands quite often, but never had this pain before. Seems to be easing throughout the day. Are there any specific things you can do to reduce it? Sleeping in a certain position, etc? Or is it just something I have to put up with for a while??
Just realised only 1 month until I go on maternity leave - woohoo!!!:j0 -

I get this too, got it in my last pregnancy and it seemed to go away a few weeks after the birth. Got it this time round too, sometimes my hand is completely numb in the morning but it's not too bad and I'm expecting it to go after the pregnancy.0
