  • Well whats the point of a midwife seeing your birthing plan then???? Just to tick boxes. I am very cross at the moment, I've had many appointments cancelled at the last minute and feel like I have just been left to get on with it and find out things for myself.
As far as I can tell there is no point. My first, the MW okayed my choices and then the hospital disagreed and the second the MW never even did it with me.
  • Ive not done a birth plan, hasnt been mentioned, and ive not got another mw appointment now! Got a scan tues @ 39 weeks and a consultant apt the following tues @ 40 weeks.

Noangel - how did it start? Mild or painful? Ive been having tightenings since 4 this morning and felt really nauseous and short of breath with it, dont think i'm in labour, but just wondering what u first felt?
Sorry feel free to answer when youre not busy :)
I know what u mean about the school year, i really want to get past the 1st of sept 2, but if baby chooses to come sooner because he/she is excited then theres no stopping them.

Flower: Happy birthday for tomorrow xx
Still here..... but working on that!

I was youngest in my year, 15th August, and always did well in school, A-levels and uni. Now working for one of the biggest companies in my sector, so don't fret about the baby coming sooner than 1st Sept. If anything put the MSE head on and think about the childcare reduction for that extra year :D Good luck and hope everything goes well.

I've just watched The Midwives and I know it probably sounds really bad, but when the husband said he'll be in his 70's when they're little one will be my age all I could think was that my Grandad passed away recently and this man will be around his age when his child is my age. I still need my Dad and can't imagine him not being there when my child grows up. I can appreciate people not having children until later on and really wanting them, but it did make me think.

I think my nesting has well and truly kicked in now, OH hasn't told me off for being messy since we moved in a month ago. I even made cake yesterday!

I just think how there will be certain times in their lives when they'll hate being the youngest. My best friend is August born and said no one went to her birthday party as they were always on holidays- I'm guilty of that for 4 yrs on the trot I was on hollibobs. She also moaned about not being able to learn to drive/ go out drinking, silly things really, but the birthday party thing still counts for the first week of September as they don't to be back in school until a few days into September.

nessie216 I can't see the point of that blood test. If they are concerned why aren't they referring you for GTT where you have a fasting blood test followed by consumption of a known quantity of glucose and then another blood test two hours later. I've had glucose in urine 3 times this pregnancy- and I always do sample before breakfast. Two GTT tests so far both come back normal. If they try to make me have another I'll scream. DS was big 9lb 10 so had to have blood tests on his first day poor baby- his were normal too but because he had to have 25ml of milk every four hours, an hour before heel pricks, he was never satisfied with the amount of breast milk he got afterwards.

Continualdiamond- I'm also back to work Monday after school hols, but just for two weeks. Supply teacher starts 1st Sept so won't be too taxing. Worst bits will be GCSE exam analysis on first day- we have to write explanations for every below target result, particularly if they got a D. Then performance management on day two. I don"t work Wednesdays since having DS. So then only 6 working days with kids in school, supporting others and covering the odd lesson perhaps as I have no timetable. I don't miss work at all. There is plenty to keep you busy with a little one. Surestart baby groups were fab. I'm still good friends with some mums I met, and DS has loved having a little group of buddies he sees occasionally. 1st and 2nd birtgday parties were little reunions but we do arrange playdates too
Library sessions are good too. All these activities give you and baby a routine and company/ new friends too :)
Mind you I'd never say I love my job- its stressful and exhausting most of the time. Despite the moments that entertain- kids are funny and the pleasure of seeing them do well truth be told everyone I work with suffers anxiety and stress. Even the ones who say they love their job spend most of the time in an adrenaline fuelled state. Not pretty.

  • good luck noangel!!

continual could you write your own birthing plan and cancel the appointment? I had a birthing plan in my maternity notes and my MW just asked me to fill it in. She read it at my last appointment and said it was very good.

I've just completed a red cross first aid course for child and baby and feel more confident now - but also feel like there's loads I don't know lol. I think I do need to get a thermometer now so will have a look around. Is calpol a mustbuy too?

TMI alert. when or did anyone start using pantliners? don't think I do need them just yet but was wondering if they were a must buy.

Re: baby being "free" my midwife said not to worry til 35 weeks, and even then only if baby isn't head down. My baby is lying across (breech) so far. Which to be positive is so much more comfy for me at this point. DS had his bum into my diaphragm by this point so got harder and harder to breathe, eat more than a few bites even whilst very hungry and gave me chronic acid reflux.
However yes I am starting to think this will be another c-section. DS was head down but back to back and big so he didn't descend enough. I have a growth scan at 36 weeks I will see consultant afterwards to decide whether to try for vbac or arrange section. If baby still breech then I imagine I'll be booked in for 2 weeks later. But what will be will be- at long as baby is safe that's all that matters.
Got a horrendous cold atm, DS is with husband's uncle and aunt today. DH arranged it cos I said I was tired a few days ago bless him. DS slept well last night after 3 nights of torturing us with no sleep- thank goodness. I was so tired last night I went up to bed as soon as DS settled. DH was plumping my pillows and the relief of bed plus his bit of thoughtfulness made me burst into tears.

Benice, first time we bought Calpol was after first jabs, I think its 3 months plus. Since then Calpol and Ibuprofen solutions are always on hand. We have them in kitchen cupboard and separate ones in "childminder bag" in case he needs them there. Other meds: colic drops for newborn- preferred the Infacol purely cos it was easy to give in milk but people swear by different brands. Sudacrem for sore bums. Zinc cream for preventing sore bums. Cradle cap shampoo- Dentinox one worked for us.
Pantyliners- you'll know if you need them. I have been using them for a few weeks.
