    Good morning ladies :)

All sounds like its going well for everyone today.

Finch7 - thanks for the heads up on the dream sheep, we have given him as a gift with mixed reviews and have one ourselves. If nothing else he's very soft and cute!

Bangton - I feel the same, I'm a socialite who loves shopping and spending on myself whilst coming home to my nice adult environment which I can control perfectly... Surely motherhood won't "fit in", so I feel selfish as actually I'm loving preparing for our little person and can't wait to teach them things (like bargain hunting ;).

I've had a weird morning, I made a couple of friends at my antenatal classes and one has used our boy baby name - William. Now it just doesn't feel special any more... But we didn't share names so its not as if she "knew" in anyway, I just feel like when my baby finally gets here (all babies so far from the group have been early), it won't be special and will be "another William" or "Helen's William". I know it's irrational... But I think hormones have taken over! They're also in the same school catchment area but assuming ours is on or after due date, they would be in different years. Damn these popular names... (Although I know we both picked family names!). Please help me see sense! Although if a girl called Charlotte or Ella has born I might just give in and eat chocolate, we haven't decided on a girls name!

My boss is good - she had breast cancer a couple of years ago & I know she appreciated my support through it.

Have just ordered Ewan - must remember that 'resting' at home is not the green light to shop every day!
  • This could very well be true! However, because my pregnancy has been registered as "high risk", I can't deliver on the MLU which was really important to me. Plus they didn't tell me until I was 35wks. So I wish someone had corrected my BMI and discharged me :(
How annoying - they should have looked at your individual circumstances rather than it being automatic that you couldn't be at the MLU due to consultant care as the risk factors which require extra antenatal care are not all the same as those requiring extra intrapartum care.
  • has anyone here had any issues with chicken pox toward the end of pregnancy, having a bit of a panic as i never had it as a child and my father who i live with has just been diagnosed with shingles, i had my blood test today but very worried about the complications it could involve if i do get it

    35+6
As far as I can remember, shingles will only give you chicken pox if you have contact with the sores so there is probably a low likelihood of you catching it from him. (Whereas chicken pox is a respiratory disease so you can catch it from someone with chicken pox much more easily.)

Updating my list of things that still need to be bought...I know it's hard to say as everyone is different, but how many maternity pads am I likely to need as a minimum? And are disposable maternity knickers good to have as well? Can tell its getting towards to just the boring things left to get now :p
I've never used maternity pads (I just use normal sanitary pads) but I'd say get a couple of packs and see how you go as it can vary quite a lot - I had more bleeding in one week with my first than I had overall last time. I've also never used disposable pants - I just use my oldest pants and throw away any that get the odd leak on them.

BadlyWrittenPoem - unfortunately I've had vasovagal syncope quite bad for 27 years. Not only do I have low blood pressure but my body doesn't make enough salt which doesn't help. I have them regularly and can have 3; one after the other. I often convulse while having them too. I had a bad one at 6am on a Saturday when I was 6m pregnant with dd2 and rushed to hospital to get her checked over - they checked heartbeat but sonographer wasn't in until the Monday so had a horrible weekend wondering whether I had broken any of her bones! Not nice. Pain and stress can bring mine on as well as being poorly. I had a good chat with mom about it earlier - think I would be best in hospital as last time I started to get the 'feeling' that I'm about to blackout and midwife gave me pethidine to stop it, this was with me laying down. If I was stood/sat up in a pool it would be harder for me to delay or stop the blackout. Think I've just talked myself into hospital! Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. :)
 I can see why they advised you against a pool then.

Re: pads I went through hundreds but you never know how many you'll need. Best to purchase a pack or two then go from there. I bled for 8 weeks :( I hope I don't this time. I just got some cheap black pants from primark, they were higher up than I normally buy but so comfy lol! I just binned them after.
I bled eight weeks the first time, three weeks the second and five the third. The third time I was using leftover pads from the second time as I'd overbought so much!

Thanks Finch I've ordered one for our little girl :) Still feels a bit weird ordering things for her when we don't have any furniture to put it in though.
