Oop another post but just wanted to ask a quick question. I asked this before but I was on the 12-24 weeks thread when I did so it didn't feel as relevant as I was fit and well then!
Bit random but how far have you/are you planning to work before maternity leave? I'll be 38 weeks by the time I give up. Pregnant colleagues/friends seem to have given up about 5 weeks before their due dates and as I am struggling a little I've really been thinking if this is the right step for me but I have this little battle with myself daily where I just think 'push on weakling!'
Personally, I wouldn't go past 37 weeks.
I booked my mat leave to start at 36 weeks but have taken a weeks AL the week before. To be fair if I was in my old job I would have stayed till 37 but I hate my current job so another 2 weeks is about as much as I can stand!!
If you're starting to feel really tired and fed up I wouldn't try to force yourself, it's nice to be able to chill a little before baby gets here.0 -

I've just submitted my forms to say that I want to finish three and a half weeks before. I have one weeks holiday before so will actually finish four and a half weeks before EDD.DS born November 2013 :smileyhea0 -
Congrats baleb and good luck MV
@Bangton, I worked until 37 weeks, I took an extra week holidays before my mat leave started but we were in the middle of moving house etc so I decided to take the extra time
Now we have moved and everything with the house is sorted, I am trying to relax at home and wait patiently for the baby. Mind you without the house move I really think I would if regretted taking the weeks leave!

Congrats baleb and Claree x x
I'm finishing work at 36 weeks and have a weeks leave before that so will finish 5 weeks before.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -
I'm finishing at 35 weeks, but do have most of my leave to take so not actually starting maternity leave until 38 weeks. I work in a lab and they have been very accommodating, but I'm still on my feet most of the day, and work an hour away from home which was why I saved my leave up so I could finish earlier but without actually starting maternity leave too early.Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0

I am finishing at the end of this month, I'll be 34 weeks on my first day of leave (annual leave to start with). I did think this was quite early originally and constantly heard of others working until 38 weeks etc. and was tempted to put it back a bit and tell myself, like you to 'push on weakling!'!!
However, my best friend who gave birth on Tuesday to a beautiful little girl :j worked up until 38 weeks and she REALLY struggled. So I have left mine as it is; some may think it is too early but I know my limits and I am already struggling being sat at a desk all day; my back and hips are killing me by the end of the day (I'm up at 6am and back home at 4.30pm with a 1/2 hour commute in the car) so I know giving up in the next couple of weeks is right for me.
What I am saying in a very roundabout and long winded way(!) is that do what feels right for YOU; don't be bullied into working later than you feel comfortable doing but alternatively if you feel up to it and want to save your leave and think you may be bored out of your mind if you leave earlier then stay at work! It's entirely up to you but don't push yourself; your mental and physical health are of paramount importance now so make the most of being able to justify getting the rest that you need
HTH (sorry for very long post!!! I am a right waffler no wonder OH switches off after about 2 1/2 minutes!)

Wow, busy day on here.
Congrats Baleb & Claree - glad babies are here safely despite what you both seem to have gone through.
MV - hope the next we hear from you is that the baby is here!
My mat leave starts the day before EDD but I will be taking 2.5 weeks leave before that. I could go earlier as I have plenty of leave but the person covering my job can't start until 10 days before that & I want to make sure things are good for her - I know it's not really my problem, but I want to do all I can. Although obviously baby could appear during that time in which case she won't be trained!
Scan & consultant on Wednesday re low placenta. TBH in my mind I am convinced it will be a c -section so think I will need to get my head around it if they say it isn't. Think it's the control freak in me liking the idea of knowing when the baby will arrive.0 -
Congratulations baleb!
Good luck MV!
Oh dear WalkingOnADream - sounds like a nightmare family situation. My only advice is stick to your guns and s0d anyone else's feelings - if you don't want your mum round your house constantly then just be blunt and tell her! Although you might want to take advantage and get her to do all your chores! :rotfl:
As for coming for tea twice a week, I assume that means they'll be bringing you food0 -
congratulations baleb, Hazel is a lovely name
WalkingOnADream - it's sounds like your mum is setting her own rules about your baby. It's your baby and your house so you can set your own rules. Maybe stick up for yourself a bit more when baby comes and by then you'll have more of an idea of what help you might need.
I'm setting my ground rules with my parents but they know I'm very stubborn. I'm more than capable of not opening the door to them or saying that they can't see baby if they really upset me. My dad really loves filming everything without asking permission but I'm going to make a big point that he has to ask permission in my house.0
