Just to update you that baby Hazel was finally born yesterday at 12:29 weighing 9lbs exactly

Will be back to do a birth story but for now suffice to say it wasn't a positive birth experience lol
Congratulations on the arrival of Hazel and I'm sorry your birth experience wasn't so positive.

I'm completely kidding. I know, my husband knows, my family know, my midwife knows that I'm a 42 weeker. I fully expected to be at the top of the list and I expect to be hogging the spot for a while too. Just the same as you know you'll be early, I know I'll be late

I know you were hence the :p 's .. At least you aren't on tenterhooks from 30 weeks not knowing when but knowing soon.. that has to be better.

I think you and I did this with your last one too didn't we? :D

I know someone who refuses induction and went 43/44 weeks with all her children and they were perfectly normal sized healthy babies. Just shows how different we all are.

Been to m.w. and sulking about being told to undergo glucose intolerance test by eating ginger biscuits!

Appointment not for 4 weeks but I'm completely unreasonable with blood tests and this involves two.

I've just reached bmi of 30 so that's triggered it even though I measure fine at 28 when I'm 29+5 so doesn't suggest big baby.

Double sulking as hate all this faff but was pressured into making today's appointment.
You don't *have* to have it and if you are happy that you don't really need it then you are free to cancel the appointment. They tried to convince me to have one in my last pregnancy because they gave me a finger !!!!! test because of "recurrent" UTIs (which weren't recurrent - the first antibiotics hadn't got rid of it so it was the same one) and I came up with high blood sugar for someone who hadn't eaten in the last two hours. The fact that I ate a sugary snack just before the appointment and was already having growth scans didn't seem to make any difference to their view of whether I needed the test.

Anyone have any advice on buying the first travel system? We thought we'd decided on two, but neither of those can have another seat added for a second child. I live in London so I'm looking to have it as compact as possible with getting on and off buses/tubes etc. now we are wondering whether to go for the bigger model (which is also more expensive!) to add on the next seat should we need it for a second. Or would a sling for a new baby be a better idea along side a pushchair? Getting way ahead of ourselves here but would still like to knowfellow mums opinions as this is our first!

So pros of the one child only = more compact for busy transport in London but cons are is it a false economy if you plan to have another fairly soon after?
When I started reading your post I was going to suggest a sling and then you mentioned them anyway. I've always used a sling rather than a pushchair just because I find it more convenient and I imagine with buses and tubes and getting in and out of stations the advantages of a sling over pushchair/travel system would be even greater. I would recommend going to your local sling library to try some slings out before you buy to make sure you get one that suits you.

Congratulations to all the ladies who have had their babies! Eeek last week im sure i was number 36, how am i nearly in the teens?!

Has anyone else experienced worse braxton hicks with subsequent pregnancies?

With my other two I remember getting them but they weren't at all painful (until a couple if weeks before with DS2).

From about 28 weeks with this one they've felt really quite uncomfortable and I actually feel like they are 'cervix openers'. I know they're not actual contractions as I only get a few and then they disappear, just wondering why they might be more painful this time round?

  • I have been stalking this thread for a long time but created a new username today to post so I can't be identified with my regular name!

I'm 30 weeks with my first and I am thoroughly fed up with my family now. I don't know if its my hormones making me more sensitive or if my frustration is justified. It's only really my mum and nan who are winding me up, some of their comments include:

    1) I stupidly told them one of the names we like which begins with a 'T' they both said they hated the name and will refuse to call him it, instead they will call him 'tatty head' as that's the nickname he will get off other kids!? I nearly said to them if they won't call him his name then they won't see him, but I bit my tongue. We haven't even decided on a name yet anyway but we really like this name.

    2) They have informed me they will be coming to my house twice a week for their tea when i start maternity leave as i have barely seen them throughout my pregnancy - no they wont.

    3) My mum said she will be taking a couple of weeks off work after I've had the baby. She only works part time anyway so I can only assume she is planning on spending a lot of time in my house with me. This is my idea of hell, I know it's going to be tough with a newborn but I'm very independent and would prefer to be alone and figure things out for myself - especially as ill be breastfeeding so I don't want people around me all the time.

    4) We currently rent a very close relatives house and the baby will be going into the room which is already decorated as a nursery. It was very recently decorated and is still spotless with matching blackout curtains, yet my mum is horrified i wont be repainting the room and won't have a theme. It's fine as it is and the baby won't care!

    5) apparently not having a wardrobe to hang baby clothes in is some form of crime and a chest of drawers is not good enough?! There is no way I am faffing around hanging up baby grows which can be folded much more easily.

I am stressing out about how I am going to put my foot down when baby is actually here. I need to find a way to tell my mum not to take time off work. I'm sorry for the length of this post but its got to the point where I can't get to sleep stressing about these things and feeling really angry about their comments!

All advice regarding handling overbearing relatives is much appreciated!
  • Congrats Baleb :)
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait
