  • Pigpen What a lovely photo, love her name as well. I like seeing different names, by that I mean names I'm not hearing all the time.

My friend named her little girl Faryn, which I'd never heard of before and then another friend named her little boy Elliot, which whilst I have heard of it, again it doesn't seem to one you hear of a lot at the moment.

Another lady from antenatal class had her sons name picked out, but is changing it.....yep she'd picked the name 'George' and said no way can she use it now.

Well I picked up a few things for my hospital bag. It's 3 for 2 at the moment on boots maternity/breast pads and I also had a 25% off coupon for the range as well as I joined the parenting club.

So got one lot of 40 breast pads and two lots of 10 maternity pads and then some disposable briefs.

Also went into B & M and picked up some Johnson baby wipes and Johnson cotton pads. All up spent £8.04 which I was happy with.

Now to do some washing of baby's items for the hospital bag. Feeling a bit better now I've got a few things sorted, was a bit in panic mode earlier with feeling not organised.

We've finally found some curtain fabric we both agreed on so I've bought it before OH changes his mind! It's blue mummy and baby elephants with safari trees on a cream background. Bit plainer than I would've liked but I'm so relieved we finally have something to pass on to my mum to get making for us :)

We have a chest of drawers some mini bookcases in the room but I need to order the cot and a rug and lamp which we won't put in until early next year as our double glazing has been booked in for pretty much due date... We thought we were being so organised getting quotes in July but mid October is the nearest slot they can do aarrrghhhh!
  • Pigpen baby looks gorgeous! how much are Bounty photos?

an9i congrats on OH getting a job

Badlywrittenpoem it's good of you to share your insights, sorry to hear about your loss. I think something going wrong at any stage is something you can't prepare for.

AFM tired and swollen ankles is pretty much me! we still have cotbed and mattress to but and a few bits for hospital bag.

I have two packs of size 1 nappies so far. Any advice on how many of each size to buy for the beginning? I find it a bit confusing cos size 1 and size 2 don't seem to be too different in weight. 33+1

God I'm so depressed today! Baby dropped this morning... only 32 weeks but think its moved again since then...was def really low this morning though could barely walk without looking penguinish....

Recived a letter from tax credits saying they were dropping payments by £70 quid and its just a real kick in the teeth as we were FINALLY not struggling...able to put a few extra things in the trolley etc lol without having to worry about money for a change...but what can you do.

The bigger picture I know we will manage but I just can't shake feeling down...we are going out tonight and I'm just not feeling it at all...have to go though as its two peoples leaving do's from work who probally never see again ...

*shurgs* Its all stupid little things that don't really matter but can't shake this bloody feeling away!! Be so glad when baby is here and no more pregnacy hormons!!

Sorry to hear your feeling down today Kayalana, hopefully the drop in money wont be too harsh on you, I know for us £70 a month is certainly a lot so can understand why your stressed! Remember though it may go back up when you have had baby if you can claim CTC? Also dont forget your CB you will get.

Try and have a good night tonight and take your mind off it all xx

Re the nappies, it goes by the weight of the baby so I'd just buy a couple of packs of each to begin with, from what I remember from my son he started off at 5.5 lbs, dropped a little straight after the birth (as is normal) and then put on around half a pound a week in the early weeks (he'd doubled his weight by around 8 weeks). No idea how normal that is btw!

Its like with baby clothes, I am going to have a few in tiny baby size and a few in new born size and then despatch someone to the shops as soon as baby is out (unless baby is NB size in which case I have enough stuff already). With my son we only had NB which dwarfed him, so my dad was packed off to mothercare with a shopping list for tiny baby clothes although I seem to remember he soon grew out of them so it's not worth spending a fortune.

Although as he was tiny this one will prob be a whopper. I've been having growth scans but last time they said baby was average and he was tiny, also last scan is at 36 weeks so anything could happen between then and the birth so not sure how much I trust these scans.

Glad im not the only one that doesn't trust growth scans :rotfl: was told at 36 weeks that DS was looking really small, he was 9lb 4 when he was born :rotfl: needless to say all the small baby stuff we bought didn't get used!

Kayalana, sorry to hear this,it may even be a blessing in disguise with the tax credits, I am currently having to pay back all the tax credits I got with my son (about 2.5k), as despite the fact I think they have calculated incorrectly and not given me the extra allowance for being on maternity leave they have ignored all my requests to look into it/appeal and just fobbed me off and made us pay it back. The way they are going, it is not tax credits but tax loans as a lot of people have to repay. I would not even apply for them again unless I was 100% definite they would not overpay - I am now having to find this money out of my SMP which not happy about.

I am also going to have to pay income tax on a portion of my SMP as my employer failed to tell the tax office last year that I was on a company car so I was unwittingly underpaying tax....luckily at least I still have the car so can save on insurance/road tax etc but it just means less SMP for me now to the tune of about £50pm so I can sympathise with you.

Not only the scans, but the obstetrician palpated me before the c section and said 'this one's a big'un' and then was very red faced when my tiny little mite came out! Shame we weren't in the same hospital at the same time we could have swapped baby clothes!
  • We bought a cot at twenty weeks in one of my pregnancies and the baby died the following week and I can honestly say that I don't and didn't regret having bought it when we did and whilst it was sad seeing the cot until we put it out of the way, it didn't make anything worse or harder.

This just actually broke my heart a little.. one of my biggest fears, love to you, however long ago it was xxx
