  • Thanks for the suggestions & list re hospital bags.

Off out in a bit to just get a few things and then might wash some of baby's outfits to pack.

I'm desperate for the nursery to be finished. I hate hate hate things just being left.

Hubby started painting it on Thursday his day off as he works Saturdays so that of course means everything had to come out, which is carrier bags of clothes (MIL gone overboard), baby swing, bouncer, play mat, travel cot and cotbed (not assembled) and changing unit (not assembled). This is what drives me crazy, everything being stored all over the place as we live in a 2 bed flat so majority of things are now propped up against the walls in our bedroom.

He realised he needed another tin of paint so asked me to fetch it yesterday as he'd finish it off when he got home from work. So I did my bit, did he do his bit......nope.

I'm tempted to do it myself, but that will put him in a bad mood as he wants to do this on his own, clearly a male thing of being able to say 'I decorated the nursery'

    Have a good day everyone.

Names - I'd always said even before we started ttc that I'd like my grandmas middle name to be our daughters middle name if it went with the first name we chose. Dh grandad who he was very close to (basically was like his dad) died a couple of years ago and if we had a boy would have had his Grandads name as baby's middle name, again if it went with the first name. We aren't doing it for other people, my Dad isn't bothered in the slightest about his mums name being used, but it would mean a lot to me, ditto for Dh for his Grandads name. At the moment we are stuck for first names, we have one that I've liked all along, Dh keeps suggesting others that I'm not much for. He has found another I like though so at least we have a choice of 2 first names now, and both go with my Grans middle name so I'm happy :D

Hi all, hope everyone is well and the overdue ladies are not getting too frustrated!
Well we're finally decorating the nursery this weekend as well- I've gone with the gingerbread theme from M and P, didn't want anything too pink and sugary - definitely got my nesting instinct and trying to get rid of /ebay loads of stuff - made around £500 on ebay in the past couple of months which has mainly gone on stuff for the new baby.

I keep getting horrible rib pain in the evening, does anyone else have this? It's just on one side and I seem to remember I had this last time, not sure if the baby is competing for room with my innards, or just the rib cage expanding to accommodate the uterus.

In other news, my partner has finally got a job after being a SAHD for two years, we were keen for him to get something before my mat leave started (I'm using my annual leave up at the mo) but the bad news is it's in another city so he will be out of the house for 12 hours each day including the commute, and not sure how much time he can take off when the baby's born (as he's officially self employed as a contractor)so it may be a bit of a struggle at first with my toddler aswell, after having a c section. But people cope because they have to, don't they!

PS think we're going to call the baby Faye - it kind of feels like it could be 'the one' although we'll wait til she's out before deciding for definite.

Ahh shes beautiful Pigpen, love the name as well!

An9i - great news that your OH has got a job. OH will be having 3 weeks off when this little one is born but then I will be in the same position as you of having a toddler and newborn and I am nervous!
He works 12 hour shifts (some of those are night shifts as well) and he has a 50 minute commute each way, so he will be out the house for nearly 14 hours a day eek!!
I am sure we will manage though :)

  • I'm nervous about the whole toddler v baby thing too, but as my mother says 'idiots manage to do it'!..not sure if she is calling me an idiot there, but I kind of get the sentiment! :rotfl:

I think we've settled on our name too for missy. I even bought the letters from Jo Jo Mama earlier to go on her room door. I may change my mind again, but it's looking unlikely.

How many weeks are most of you before you start decorating nursery? Part of me wants to start now (25 weeks) while I am still able to manoeuvre lol but then I'm worried its too soon and I should wait until 30 weeks? I'm not painting room just sorting furniture/ wall decals, need to sew black out lining into curtains, hang bunting and decide what else to do! I think there's a canopy for the cot aswell as mobile to go over changing unit
I've never decorated as first baby we were renting and after that we've never had a separate individual room but in terms of organising furniture, I did it around five-seven months the first time. (By which I mean I told DH what to do and he did it - I couldn't have done it myself at any stage of pregnancy.) For the one year old, DH finally sorted stuff out at around eight months but this time I'm hoping to be well enough to do it myself a bit sooner than that as I like to be ready. I can't really see any reason not to start at 25 weeks if you want to and are able.

think I felt anxious about starting just incase anything happened
We bought a cot at twenty weeks in one of my pregnancies and the baby died the following week and I can honestly say that I don't and didn't regret having bought it when we did and whilst it was sad seeing the cot until we put it out of the way, it didn't make anything worse or harder.
  • Pigpen - Delilah is gorgeous! Love the name too. Ooh I'm broody now, can't wait for cuddles with my little man.

KScarlet - do the room whenever you're ready and still have energy. We're doing ours tomorrow (30wks) but that's because we have to swap girls bedrooms over and its the only 2 days we have off together before I'm on annual leave/maternity at 37wks. We had to buy a high sleeper with desk etc for dd2, new mattress etc to go in the big room with baby's cot as currently dd1 has double bed in there, so it's taken time to buy it all etc. I do understand where you're coming from though; didn't buy a thing until 20wks after losing a baby just under 2 months before falling pregnant this time.
