I had a right royal saga with whooping cough and vaccines!
I didn't have it as a kid - there was some health scare going around at the time and my mum skipped it. So Christmas when I was about 18 weeks pregnant (before they try to get you to have the jab), and Erin was around 9 months or so... cousin rocks up with her 3 year old and new baby - proudly proclaims "Oh she's got a stinking chest infection but we wanted to make sure we got the kids' presents"...
Baby turned out to have whooping cough and be hospitalised, I had weeks of waiting and wondering if me or Erin had picked it up - had bloods done to check my immunity and exposure which are only run through one or two labs in the country so a massive wait for results. Grrrr.
Looks like I'm stuck in the house today - next door's getting his roof done and the scaffolders just showed up - parked completely on the pavement blocking our garden gap where a gate should be so there's no way I could get myself out comfortably - let alone a double buggy... hoping they don't need to run poles down into our side alley or I ain't going to be able to get the pushchair out at all for a good couple of weeks. I know from when they did our scaffolding for our roof that this is a good 3 hour or so job to put it all up.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

I'm not bothering with the WC vaccination. I never had it with the other 2 and they were fine, plus I don't like the thought of pumping an unborn baby with "vaccinations". Each to their own though
Still waiting for my new letter from MA to arrive. I really really REALLY hope I get the full amount. No reason why I shouldn't, but you never know. The annoying thing is I'm holding off buying anything til I know I'm getting the full wack! They received the letter on the 8th and said it would take roughly 10 working days to sort. That's next weekI need money to start painting the nursery and get the girls their bunk beds.
Does anyone else not feel the baby inside you unless S/He is kicking? It's such a weird feeling, and very hard to explain to OH as he thinks I can feel like a foreign body in there but it's not like that at all. :rotfl:
Off to Dunelm mill today to go browsing.

I had WC vacinnation a couple of weeks ago - i figure i should do as much as i can to give bean the best start in life
I know what you mean about not feeling pregnant unless you feel movements - only until a week or so ago i was exactly the same & even now when i am sitting at work & bean isn't moving i don't feel pregnant - but if i get up i definately feel pregnant when the weight of the belly drags!
I'm a little worried as (considering this is my first pregnancy) my next midwife appointment isn't until i am 37 weeks & that one is at home! - Ok i do have a growth scan at 35 weeks - but thats not alot of appointments considering i am supposed to be seen every 2 weeks?
Also - do we get a walk around of the hospital/maternity ward before due date? My mum is pestering me as her best friends daughter had a hospital walk around earlier this year for her pregnancy - but i am in a different council - although using the same hospital - should i ask someone? I don't want to call my midwife just to ask that!
Also keep getting annoyed with people who say that it doesn't matter with how much weight i have put on because i have an excuse - why do people say that - i don't have an excuse to put on excessive amounts of weight (put on 1st 8lbs so far) - if anything i should concentrate more on eating right!
Sorry for the moan
Congrats to the new babies - loved the pics

Hi all, how is everyone today?
Re SMP, I've had nothing from work despite me chasing them several times. I really want it in writing as they were a nightmare before I went on maternity leave and I don't trust them to get it right now I'm not there. I gave them my mat1b at the start of May, confirmed my dates at the end of May, and started mat leave at the end of June - not even had my payslip through for July's pay, I only know I got it coz it went into the bank (a week later than normal). I'm panicking a bit as my contract expires while I'm on mat leave, and every government website tells me I'm still due the full 39 weeks smp, but I just know work will try and stop paying once my contract expires. (Not going back, even if they did offer to renew my contract)
Re whooping cough, I'm another who never really thought about not getting it. Didn't find it too sore, my arm ached a bit if I forgot about it and accidentally touched it, but that was it.
Has anyone had stitch like pains in their side at night? Whatever side I lie on, sometimes I'm woken up with a really really sore pain in that side. It goes as soon as I move over and turn over. I asked the doc when I was there a few weeks ago an she said it was prob just muscular and nothing to worry about. But now bump is a bit bigger, the pain is getting worse - before it was right under my ribs but now it runs down my side to almost my hip bone. Any ideas? I'm guessing its to do with how baby is lying, given that as soon as I move, the pain goes! Just wish it didn't wake me up!0 -
Nessie, our hospital books in maternity wing tours for those who want them, you just phone up and they give you some dates. Might be worth trying the maternity reception?
I'm also annoyed with those who say its ok to eat for two, it's just not! Have been the same weight pre pregnancy for about 8 years and finding it hard to have a bum and thighs after running 4 times a week and generally being very active pre pregnancy. I now find I'm eating the same portions, plus junk food and have had the same weight gain as you with 9 weeks to go! It's hard to reign in the snacking when all I want to do is eat!0 -
After my early morning scare spent 3 hours in hospital AGAIN with contractions! But no other signs, finally gone away now but stomach is exetremely tender... gahh awkward baby!0

I had the WC vac at 30 weeks (when they asked me if I forgot at 28, eh no - you couldn't give me an appointment at 28 weeks!), never really thought not to get it. I get what people are saying about the other ingredients and vaccinating an unborn baby but I'd never forgive myself if anything happened. I'm not an NHS lover, I know they have some weird ideas at times but I just have to trust that they know more than I do.
Nessie I didn't hear anything from my hospital about tours but I have heard other people talking about them, maybe best just ask your midwife or call the hospital and ask? I was going to ask about it but since I'm going in on Friday now I guess I'll just wait and see!
MV, sorry you had such a sucky appointment. I found when I was being passed about from Mat Assessment to Daycare to my community midwife I was being told all sorts of different stuff. Thankfully now I'm just with daycare and they seem fairly consistent - if unhelpful at times!
I went in today and the MW I seen in daycare didn't know I was booked for induction until I told her and then she agreed with me that it's a bit pointless for me to come for a scan tomorrow when I'm being induced anyway - but the doctor refused to cancel the appointment because someone else had made it and he didn't want to take the responsibility  So we're all agreed it's a pointless trip to the hospital in literally my last few days of being without baby!
Looking forward to her being here now. Started feeling some braxton hicks type tightening this morning which aren't sore but aren't particularly pleasant either - really do feel for you overdue ladies, labour vibes to you all!

Main reason I got the WC jab was knowing for a fact I had no immunity to it (thanks to the debacle explained before). The other reason (I'm sceptical about the immunity passing on) was that what happened with my cousin's baby was that her father was the one who'd caught WC and he'd passed it onto her - that was the main risk I wanted to eliminate.
I need a trip to Dunelm Mill - I want their Sleepy Owls cot duvet cover set for Erin (we swapped her out of grobags when the weather changed figuring we may as well do the getting used to a duvet thing while it's not going to be cold in the night if she kicks it off... plus Robyn kind of nicked her sister's sleeping bags - in 6-9 month clothes and they're looking small at not even 5 months - that child regards babygro as an instruction and not an item of clothing!)Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
