Question re bedding for a newborn... Our crib mattress has a washable, not waterproof, cover. Do I need to buy some sort of waterproof protector or just double up on the sheets in order to stop baby's sick, leaks etc soaking into the mattress?0

I put a towel under the sheets and when they are very small if they are very sicky I put a flat cot sheet over the head end of the sheet so it has.. mattress, towel, fitted sheet then the flat sheet folded in half which I can replace when needed.. I use a muslin in the basket.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Hi all,
Ended up going Ito the hospital earlier as had more pinky discharge this morning. They had me hooked up to the monitors for 2 hours, then a speculum then monitors again as bubs heart rate had gone down to 70. Conclusion is... They don't know where the blood has come from but as long as its not gushing or I'm in pain apparently it's fine! Just glad to be home now0 -
I had a letter from my work a few weeks after handing in my mat1b telling me which periods were which pay and when my years leave would be up. Also asked at the same time about going part time when I return, was a month ago nearly and still not heard anything, although to be fair one of the managers has been on holiday for 2 and a half weeks of this time. Might have to remind them soon as I want to know when I start maternity leave, that was the whole point of asking early!Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0

Hi everyone. Congrats to all the new mummies in the last few days!
Still nothing here, few cramps but they never amount to anything. Second sweep booked for Wednesday and induction booked for Friday
I would do anything to have this baby now!
Hope everyone's well

When I sent my mat b1 to HR I listed out what days I'm taking as holiday, when I start my maternity leave, when it drops to SMP from 90%, and when I'm returning. I asked them to confirm by email that I had interpreted our maternity policy correctly (we have a sliding scale for how long you get at 90% depending on years service). They comfirmed in email and by letter (woo!).Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

lobey - good you were checked out and are home again now.
PP - how is the new arrival doing? Sleepless nights so far,and any name chosen yet?
AFM - I had my 38 week MW appointment this morning, which left me feeling frustrated and puzzled. Firstly I was kept waiting for 45 mins, and the receptionist had a massive attitude problem. She was on her phone most of the time I was there, letting women queue up and 'helping' them whilst conducting private phone conversations. It was a real 'fcuk you, I don't want to be here, so am going to make it really obvious' kind of thing. Makes me so mad when there are people desperate for jobs that people like that manage to get employed.
When after 40 mins I asked where I was on the list, she barked at me 'who are you?'..I really had to hold my tongue. Luckily I was next on the list at that point, but it makes me so cross when there are signs up everywhere saying 'please don't be late for your appointment or you will need to rebook' yet they can run almost an hour late with no apology. Grr rant there over.
Then the MW I saw, whilst nice and jolly wanted to chat to me about her recent holiday and her kids etc - no offence but I honestly don't care. I just want to get seen and get out. Then she spent 15 mins discrediting all the advice I had been given at my last appointment with the Community MW, and moaning about why I wasn't being seen at my GP (I explained there were no appointments available till after my due date), and how annoying it was that this particular MW always sends her patients to the hospital when they are so over stretched.
Again - not my problem! Internal politics of the NHS service in Lambeth and understaffing of MW's is not something i can do anything about! Just check em over and let me be on my way!
So the community MW had told me that as this is my 2nd child, my cervix will probably open more quickly and I should be phoning the delivery suite when my contractions are around once every 20 mins. Today's MW looked at me as if I had just piddled on the floor, asked me 'why on earth did she tell you that??' - err..I don't know..I'm not a midwife! She said I should wait until they are only 5 mins apart as 'they will not want me there until that stage'.
*sigh* so completely conflicting advice in amongst all the banal chit-chat, so I came home, phoned the labour ward and asked the MW there which piece of advice to follow. Got something completely different again, so it's going to be a case of see what happens I think!
Also having been given a good prodding by the MW today, I am so sore. My bladder is screaming, and walking is uncomfortable.
Maybe this is the start of something? I recall my bladder being in agony in the early stages with DS.
Whatever, my bump is super low and I am more than ready to have my body back thank you very much!
Sorry for the ranty moan. Thank god my childminder is such a star and is dropping DS home to me this evening as the thought of driving and loading him in and out of the car is too much.

I assumed everyone was entitled to the full maternity pay provided they'd done the minimum weeks, was it 24 or something? I've been at my company 5 years so hoping I'm entitled to the full whack!0
