PP - yes I am going to do lists this weekend and also spend Saturday evening deciding what we need to order now and what can wait.
I have cancelled friends coming for dinner on Saturday night. I love them to bits but they are big drinkers and I'm not really in the mood to cook a meal and then watch OH and my mates getting pi55ed. OH is grumpy that I have cancelled, but s0d him..men don't have to compromise like we do so it's put up or shut up here!
I'm also feeling insecure about my job (cue hormones). A woman iside the company is covering my maternity leave, and as I was on holiday last week I thought I'd be sitting with her on monday to start the handover/introduce her by email to my international customers. Made the mistake of switching on my Blackberry yesterday and she's already swung into it all. Contacted all my accounts, started messing with my business plans. I emailed my friend and line manager to ask if she could just hold off a bit on certain things until Monday so my customers don't get too confused, and was told no she was given the green light to jump in.
This woman is a known PITA in the company, gobby and brash and it looks like she is going into overkill to make a good impression at my job.
I guess I'm just feeling insecure and worried that if she kisses enough ar5e they may decide they don't want me back again. I do 3 days a week and the job is perfect for me, but this woman is going to be doing it full time.
Does anyone know, can they decide a maternity cover is better than you and get rid of you/make my part time role redundant? It was created for me initially.
Sigh. And I have found out that OH has been fibbing to me again about something we have had issues with before.
Just a sh1tty day all round!
At least DS is having his nap now so I should be able to watch Wimbledon in peace for an hour or so.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Good luck for Sunday Sparkles!
So MW has just left (after saying she'd be here this morning she turned up at 20 past 1!)
Didn't get a sweep, said she won't be doing one next week either and the earliest she will do one is 40+7! (despite my consultant writing in my notes to have one after 39 weeks)
So after getting excited about the possibility for a sweep I now have nothing
The car has been in the garage for MOT and service and they've changed their minds on what they include for the price I was quoted so I've been on the phone arguing with them!
Have had problems with my wages for a month now and been trying to sort them out with work and have just been told due to my mat leave start date changing I have missed out on being paid a weeks holiday I should have had and now they can't ay me for it (I ended up staying on an extra week than planned due to staff problems) so after doing them a huge favour - I have lost out
On top of all that just had an argument with OH on the phone - for no real reason!
GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!New first time mummy to a gorgeous little boy!
:j0 -
labour vibes to everyone that needs them
Sparkles you sound very organised!
MV I don't have a little one but let me know what you do cos I might be in a similar situation in a few years. How about making baby thank you cards for pressies that you'll get?
Have gone a bit crazy buying cute baby clothes! I got a pumpkin costume/ bodysuit from mothercare and a skeleton bodysuit from Whitby. Then I got tempted by the little bird range in mothercare and got this sleeping bag and this towel and this body suit and another bodysuit!
I got the little bird bodysuits in 3-6 months as I figured that I'd get a lot of newborn & 0-3 months as gifts. The pumpkin and skeleton are for halloween so they are 0-3 months. I also got a dreamgenie pillow as I'm getting pelvic aches. Well that's the excitement of this payday over and done with! next payday I'll be buying my hospital bag contents and the essentials on my checklist.0 -
I seem to be in full scale 'house gut' mode. Amazing the amount of crap we have accumulated in 1.5 years. Worked my way through the boxes of clothes in my boys wardrobe and pulled out anything vaguely unisex. Should have enough vests and baby grows to last a while.
Had my 28 week midwife appointment yesterday. A student took my blood, she was lovely but my arm is a mess! GP also refused the whooping cough jag because I reacted to it when I was younger. Oh well.
Sickness has subsided a bit, replaced by chronic heartburn. Oh the joys!

sorry to hear you are having a tough time in work. I can completely relate my maternity cover was hired (head-hunted) from a different job and given a full time permament contract so I can understand where you are coming from and seems to hell bent on making more work for me by making a balls of most think they are involved in.
Am quite bitter  about, we have had massive resourcing issues and I have been working on 60-70 hours a week since January to keep the my clients going and I now have unlikely to have any work to come back to!!
Not sure re the legal situation but big hugs xxxx0 -

Just a quick look at the board - wanted to know who else had hatched - will keep lurking as Sparkles is clearly very close, minimuffin and Nikkiann.....haven't long to go.....!
I came home from hospital on Tuesday although they wanted me to stay another night but I was on a ward and the person who was next to me snored all night so I didn't get any sleep!
Basically I went into labour on the Sunday evening - contractions came on really strong and close together from the outset - I phoned the homebirthing unit only to be told they didn't have any mw's to come out. So I was given the choice of 2 hospitals - travelled there freaking my OH out as contractions were close together and hospital quite some distance! Was given a birthing pool suite as soon as I arrived and 2 dedicated mw's were with me throughout my entire labour/birth - I couldn't fault how I was treated at all.
After 10.5 hours of pushing in the pool (which is absolutely bliss - the plan was to have baby in the pool) - it was clear labour wasn't going to progress without a bit of help as my contractions weren't long enough and I was knackered. I was given a drip to strengthen the contractions but after another hour they decided that it wasn't going much better. So I was told that forceps might help otherwise they would have to perform a C-section to get baby out.
So I went down to theatre and has a spinal block (I was desperate to avoid an epidural - they knew this and wanted to help me do this) and forceps delivered baby within a few minutes. The spinal block was heaven after all of the contraction pain for so long - and this is coming from someone who is anti-intervention!
I am so grateful for the care and support that I was given in hospital - every single member of staff acted only in mine and the baby's interests and I cannot thank them enough. They found that my waters had broken when I thought - more than 24 hours before - and baby had passed meconium whilst still inside (but they didn't realise this until she was out - otherwise I wouldn't have been allowed to labour in the pool for so long).
I did have a cut and hence stitches and have terrible piles - I cannot sit down very easily - but its all been absolutely worth it. Baby was tongue tied but that's already been corrected (3 days later we received a consultant appointment), she has also already had physio on her arm at home as it was a little weak possibly due to the delivery - the whole services we have received from healthcare professionals as been second to none.
So....I guess what I am saying is never say never - I wanted a natural birth but it didn't work out - be flexible - consider your options but at the end of the day - what really counts is a healthy baby at the end (I will never forget that feeling of lying on the theatre table looking over at my new baby). Baby arrived exactly 2 weeks late - and is the most perfect little girl ever.
I look forward to catching up with as many as you as possible on the next board - thank you all for your support throughout my pregnancy. The worst bit......not the contractions, labour or even going to theatre.....but blinking PILES! They are absolutely terrible!!!! xxx0 -
Hello ladies and bumps, can I join you on the big thread?
Can't honestly believe I have made it to 24 weeks pregnant, it has all been a big blur but a bit scary to be over here with lots of you about to pop - In my head I should still be on the less than 12 weeks thread!
If I could be added to the list my EDD is 17th October and we have stayed team yellow (although I do have another few scans booked so may be swayed!)
Just wanted to remind anyone that the 2nd (Tuesday) is the last day for clubcard exchange vouchers too- I've just used mine to get all the baby bedding which seemed like a good deal :-)

How absurd would it be to buy myself some nice flowers - from a florist rather than Aldi? :rotfl: OH has bought me flowers about twice in the last 5 years and does keep saying just to buy them myself since we have a joint account (men!) but I usually just pick up a £3 bunch but I really want some nice flowers after feeling crappy this week.
Not very MSE I know - talk me out of it pleaseMy Debt Free Diary

Oh MV and lao_cat, hope things settle in work.
Dida, so glad you're both home. I've already got in the heavy duty pile cream (the things we aren't warned about!) I had a forceps delivery with my eldest and it was not a nice experience at all so hope you feel much better soon.
Claree - go for it! I love getting a wee bunch of flowers but if hubby surprises me with a bunch my first response is 'What have you done?' so he doesn't like getting them for me! I was actually looking at flowers in Asda y'day but didn't like the look of any of them but still tempted.
I'm having a wee debate with myself about what to do next week, girls finished school today, my sister is coming home for a week tonight and we have family coming from America for 2 weeks from tomorrow. So, dh has taken next week off so we can spend some time with them all but there is no room for us in the house they are all staying in (there is room for the girls though so they'll be away!) until Wednesday or Thursday, so either we book ourselves into a B&B and fork out minimum £120 for 2 nights, drive up and back every day - its almost 1 1/2 hours each way and sitting, especially in a car, makes my sciatica flare up, its worse if I drive but if I don't then I get travel sick, or should we take a couple of days and sort out the nursery? We're moving the girls into the same room and Wriggler is getting the box room so we need to redecorate both rooms as well as get them cleared and organised. Did I mention I'm supposed to be induced 3 weeks from Monday and we have nothing sorted room wise!!!!Norn Iron Club member 273:beer:0 -
Welcome Lemon and happy 24 weeks
Claree - can you think of something cheaper or free to treat yourself with?
Just thinking about seriously scrubbing the house with bleach. then thinking that's not such a good idea when preggers. Might be turning to white vinegar and more friendly chemicals.0
