Has anyone taken dd/ds (if u have one) to a midwife appointment?
I'll have to now over the holidays unless i arrange childcare which id rather not do? Shes 8, so wont b running around being naughty, should be ok should it??

I took my 10 yo foster brother to my last one, other than the MW presuming he was my son (seriously, I'm 23) it was fine. A McDonald's on the way home might have sweetened the deal though.

So basically I've been told that although my blood pressure, protein levels and swelling are high, I don't have anything "wrong" with me so I've just to keep going for check ups at the hospital (since the community mws keep sending me there anyway!). From what the sister said yesterday it seems like they desperately want to get me to 37 weeks before making a call but she did continue to stress that spontaneous labour would be best - like I've got an option! :rotfl:

Hope your doing OK Claree_, must be so frustrating getting sent to the hospital all the time.

Feeling very pregnant and a bit fed up today...my hips are sore, I've bad heart burn and to top it all (sorry if TMI!) my breasts are leaking non-stop...tried to go for a nap earlier and baby bean decided it was time to do some disco dancing in there, so no sleep. Ah well, it is lovely just to lie there and feel her moving about! Just over 7 weeks left til due date!

Got wedding invite to SIL's wedding in the mail today, the wedding is the day after my due date and we still haven't decided if we are going. (wedding is 2.5 hours drive from home). Unless baby decides to come a week or so early, I prob won't, but I think DH will go for the ceremony. 2.5hrs away is actually closer to home than he is most days for work (he's a lorry driver, and can easily be 4/5 hours away).

Re taking children to appointments, this is my first, but I can remember my mum taking me along to hers when she was expecting my sister, I would've been 6/7 at the time and it wasn't a problem.

As a midwife - I used to ask that mums did not bring their little ones on an appointment when bloods are taken. It can be scary for the LO - I once had the mum faint and had to deal with that but then had a toddler clinging to the mum's legs roaring her head off. It was a good job the Health Visitors office was next door and that she came running when I yelled. She took care of toddler whilst I sorted the mum!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Yay! FIL has agreed to have the dogs, just the logistics to sort out if we have to. Feeling MUCH happier now, and I can't quite believe that by hook or by crook the Pickle should be with us by the middle of next week! :)

  • Holy Moly!! A friend has just shared this with me: http://www.thelocal.de/society/20130730-51125.html

Though I don't think that babies over 4 kg can really be classed as overweight - my foetal growth chart has the Pickle at about 4.1 kg - although (s)he's a week over now, growth has been steadily within the lines on the chart...

    Yikes!
Her mother had been suffering from undiagnosed diabetes.
    - Now even more pleased that I agreed to the GTT even though I only just qualified and thought it a bit unneccessary!

Oh no! Poor little one!! It's my 34 week appointment so no bloods that ive been told about, but then i go to hospital for them anyway so that'll be fine :) shes very well behaved (i know all mothers think that!) but she would happily sit with the ladies that work in reception for a few mins if need be.

Thanks b2b - sorry your feeling sorry for yourself, its tough going some days. Im very tired today although i slept better last night than i have in weeks!! What are your braxton hicks like? I keep getting some strange on goings down the bottom half of my bump, but not sure if thats what it is? It only lasts a few seconds?

Thanks claree - i'm sure dd wouldnt turn down a mcdonalds as a bargain, however its all her dad ever feeds her (she stays with him 2 nights a week) so i try to avoid it when she's with me! its a nightmare, but we wont get into that :) Lol. Hope your feeling ok, how many weeks are u now?

I've taken my three year old to most of my appointments and its been fine. He loves coming over to the table and listening to the heartbeat when the midwife gets the Doppler out. He was fine seeing me getting my bloods taken, I just carried on talking to him as I normally would and told him the lady needed to make mummy better. Hopefully seeing me not react to needles will stand him in good stead for when he has his MMR booster!

Was slightly productive today and listed a few items on eBay that I've been meaning to get rid of for quite some time. Probably wont get much for them but something's better than nothing!
