I'd second the Medela Swing its fab!

I started out with a Tomee Tippee manual pump and would end up with about 4oz on 20 mins. Got myself the Swing electric pump and started getting 6-7oz in 10 mins. I find its really good at stimulating the let down reflex.

I could pump 5oz in 5 minutes on a TT manual :p Same on an electric. You just won't know till you start. Some women simply struggle to express anything.

Despite all that a manual has it's uses....like if you went somewhere without baby and need to express to stop the engorgement, unless you can express by hand (I couldn't for the life of me!) then a manual is much easier to use in a festival portaloo than an electric!

How long did it take for your results to come? I had my bloods taken on Tuesday and am convinced I will end up on iron but Ihaven't heard anything as of yet.

I had them taken on Wednesday and my GP rang yesterday.

Thunderstorms here hurrah! hope this means it'll be cooler. 29+4
  • My D day today!! Been feeling lots of twinges yesterday and this morning and feeling more uncomfortable than ever, but I'm suspecting this isn't the start of labour - hopefully it is baby engaging further though.

I was in such a foul mood yesterday everyone I came into contact with got the sharp end of my tongue. Not sure how I'm feeling today - nobody's incurred my wrath... so far... :)

We've been having thunderstorms too, so at least it feels a bit cooler and fresher. Back to the hospital for the tour of the delivery units this pm - it's been cancelled several times so I'm really hoping they pull their fingers out this time. I can now understand why Pigpen can be a bit dismissive of healthcare professionals - the attitude and inane comments we've had about the tour (which the community midwives are pushing people to do in this area) were quite unreal. I'm just hoping they're more empathetic when I'm actually in labour.

Also just wanted to say thanks to Lovecake for the fab birth story - I'd love one similar!

At hospital now, first bp reading was good (high side of normal, but normal!) and trace seems good so fingers crossed I'll be out of here in no time. Got my 10 year old foster brother with me who's huffing about 'cause he wants to be at his pals house and not the hospital but nae luck! Slightly insulted that the MW thought he was my son - I'm only 23!!

Hope all's well with you all. I could do without this heat but there was a wonderful storm last night - kept me up half the night but i love listening to the rain!

Glad the signs are good for you Claree. Hope you're home soon.

Hospital bag, I have bought some of the most 'glamorous' supplies, eg. nipple cream, maternity pads, breast pads etc (I'm 27 weeks) and just on the lookout for some cheap black PJs and button up nighties (both were in Primark but for some reason my local Primark thinks people only come in size 6 or size 20!) Got some wonderful massive black pants though, tempted to wear them now they are so comfy but can't quite bring myself to give in to massive pants just yet!

In Boots I was looking for Witch Hazel gel and an assistant (very young girl) found it for me then asked what I wanted it for. Her poor face when I told her! hahaha!!

Re. breast pumps, I don't know what's going to work for me so do you think it's wise to buy a manual one on the cheap to start with, then if I find that expressing is the way I want to go I can invest in a super swish electric one??

TTC - Mothercare have just announced they are offering 15% off a £100 spend. As far as I know, It can be used with the £10 off a £50 spend from their app. May work out a lot cheaper than buying from Kiddicare?

    Hope it helps someone!
