You can buy grobags in 0-6 months so i assume their ok to use before then?

DD was a hot baby, so I wanted her to be able to kick off the covers when she needed to. I did try a sleeping bag when she learned to stand up in her cot and wouldn't go to sleep, but it didn't work. Didn't do anything when she started walking at 10 months either. I don't really rate them.

Hi everyone, hope everyone is getting on ok! :) Just a quick update. It took 8 days of frustration, tears, and seriously painful mastitis and then all of a sudden it just clicked and breastfeeding is a breeze! :) I nearly gave up, but I'm so glad I persevered.

Here's a quick version of my birth story: 18.30 started having what i thought were Braxton Hicks, started timing them anyway as they were getting painful, had a lie down, bounced on my ball, went for a bath and then called maternity assessment. I was told to wait until they were 3mins apart and a minute long. By 23.00 they were coming every 2ish mins and over a minute long. Called the hospital again and they said to see if I could last longer at home, but if not I could come in. I lasted til 1am at home and then went in. Had a bloody show when I got there, was examined and was 6cm, then after I'd only been there for 10mins my waters went with a gush. I asked to use the pool so they started getting it ready and I walked along to the delivery suite. Got in the pool about 2.00 I think and had some gas and air, it wasn't long before I was pushing. Bubs was a little bit slow coming out, but turned onto all fours and then the head came with a big push. Went back onto my back so I could see bubba's head and the rest of him came on the next push at 4.55am! :) The midwife was amazing, so encouraging, and the pool was great. I was really swollen and had a tear so I had quite a few stitches and I ended up having a catheter overnight, but that was the only annoying thing i had to deal with. Oh and it took a while to deliver the placenta, it was quite painful and had to have a few injections to help it along, but apart from that it was straightforward :) I feel very lucky!

I loved sleeping bags for DS - they were great in that you didn't have to worry about them wriggling under the covers.

He was in moses basket for 4 weeks before he grew out of it (9lb at birth, gained weight continuously after that!) and once he was into his cotbed I used sleeping bags, and continued to about 18months.

He was a complete rumble and would kick covers off them wake up through the night cos he was cold, sleeping bags solved the problem for us.

I started using one with lo (nearly 5 months) because no matter how I tucked the blanket in, he would kick it up in the middle of the night and I was worried he'd smother himself!

I was worrying about over heating but the bag we bought from mothercare had a temprature thing on the back that told you what to put them in so colder the room sleepsuit and hotter the room vest.

Now I can sleep knowing he can't smother himself!

RE Sleeping bags. The advice I was given was to use them from 10lb plus, and only if their head was bigger than the neck hole so that there was no chance of slipping through. I used them when DD was a couple of weeks old. She didn't like being swaddled and loved the bags. I used them up to 18 months and then transferred her to a cot duvet and for the past 6 months she's been using a pillow and duvet no probs and always asks me to "tuck me in " when I kiss her goodnight :)

RE Moses baskets - I will use one this time, but only because I have DD's old one. I used it when DD slept in my room for the first 8 weeks before transferring her into her cot bed in her own room. She did outgrow it and the mattress and base isn't particuloarly comfortable. This time round, I will use the moses basket downstairs for sleeps and will have a space saver cot in my room which hopefully will last baby until he/she sleeps through and transfers to DDs cotbed.

lovecake - lovely birth story, sounds like a nice straightforward birth. Well done on persevering with the BF.

PigPen - I've not eaten much today. made dinner for DD and DH but just didn't fancy it myself so just munching through some choc biscuits.

Right, I need to do my online shop as we have very little food in the house and I will have no energy to go to the supermarket in the next couple of days.

  • lovely birth story lovecake, glad you're doing fine with breastfeeding

I have a set of moses basket bedding and cotbed bedding with 2 blankets and 2 fitted sheets each. I bought a sleeping bag and got given one for 0-6 months. I'll wait for baby or gifts to figure our what to get extras in. I've heard sleeping bags are good for babies that kick off the blankets. I'd like to try a swaddle too.

    I'm still eating loads!

I second everything Miffy said about sleeping bags - that's exactly the advice I followed. Took DS nearly 3 months to get to 10lb though so we had a very cold baby a lot of the time! Blankets have never worked for him. Even now he wraps them around his head and leaves his body totally uncovered. Stupid child!

I don't think I'd buy a moses basket if it was my first but my SIL bought me one for DS which I will use again this time around :) DS did a lot of sleeping in his baby bouncer and on a beanbag.
