I don't know about anyone else but yes I do feel uncomfortable. I'd feel self conscious in front of my family too..especially my brothers. I don't know if it's society or just me to be honest :o

I had already decided at my last appointment to express which I thought the midwives would be happy with..not sure they were though although of course it is my choice.:rotfl:

One comment that did irk me was a midwife (I keep seeing different ones) said I wasn't to consider my partner in all the feeding decisions because he'd be off for his 2 week paternity and then straight to work and I'd be solely responsible for feeding. Bit assumptive when I'd met her for first time...how does she know our plans for maternity/paternity!

Anyhow on another note brother has just been round with his partner and 2 children to give me a ton and I mean TON of newborn to 6 month baby clothing! :D

My FIL is still very uncomfortable with anybody breast feeding near him, which amazes me when he has 4 sons that were all breastfed, and now has 6 grandchildren, 4 of which have been breastfed. It's hilarious because if you say "I'm going to feed baby whatever now" he makes a right song and dance about leaving the room. If you don't announce it and just do it he doesn't even notice what's happening!! :rotfl: Nobody hides it, but for both my feeding SILs within a few days baby can do it without mum needing to get her whole boob out.

I'm a K cup and admittedly it was a bit more "visible" for longer in the early days because there was a lot of flesh to line up (and avoid suffocating baby :o).

Expressing is a very hard option. There are women on here who have done it exclusively, some for months, but itsmuch much harder than breast feeding because you have to keep to the 4 hourly pumps day and night to keep the supply up even when baby feeds less often. It's worth seeing if you can feed straight from the boob - you might surprise yourself!!

Hi all, hope everyone is well and surviving this heat! Been away at MIL's for a few days so just a quick post and I'll have a proper catch up tomorrow!

Just sorting through baby things that we have, and trying to figure out what we still need to buy. I'm unsure if we have enough clothes and bedding, at the moment we have:

4 x baby grows in Newborn (up to 10lb)
3 x vests in Newborn (up to 10lb)
4 x vests in up to 3 months (up to 13lb)
1 x 2 piece pyjama set in up to 3 months (up to 12lb)
Plus a t-shirt and a few cardi's my mum has knitted, scratch mits, bootees and hat.

Bedding, we have 2 x celluar blankets, 2 x fitted sheets, 2 x flat sheets, a sleeping bag and a fleece blanket. The blankets and sheets are to fit a cot though, and Baby Bean will be going into a crib first so will need to get bedding to suit that...

So is this enough?! If not, what size would you get more of?

    When is baby due?

If say not enough babygros - DD had about 20 in age newborn/0-3 months and was in them till she was about 5 months (almost 9lb baby!). We went through 5-6 babygros in the 3 days/nights we were in hospital. She was an October baby but didn't wear a vest till she was over a year old. She's still a hot child.

I didn't put her in clothes (apart from babygros) for 6/7 months. She just didn't need them. Ditto hats, booties, gloves, sleeping bags. She didn't have a crib or Moses basket (we co-slept), so we only used blankets in the pram/car seat.

So I'd say don't go mad before baby arrives.

I would agree that you need a lot of vests and babygros and in different sizing. I used early baby size and the smaller newborn sizes for my babes as they were 6lbs so were drowned out by the larger ones. I could get through 4 changes a day so with washing etc I had at least 12 of each.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Me to benicetomyself! It's still warm here but nowhere near as hot as it has been all week.

Any opinions on crib vs moses baskets? I was going to go for a crib as hopefully it will last DS longer but not sure.

The advantage of a moses is that you can take it around the house with you - everywhere I went baby went, eg in the bathroom when I had a shower. the trick is to buy a huge one, I got an I love my bear one from babies r us which lasted until DS was around 4 months old. Or you could get a crib for the bedroom and a moses for downstairs/around the house. They are dirt cheap second hand on ebay and you just need to get a new mattress (if you want the cheap option)

I'd suggest you get 2 sleeping bags as you'll need one when the other's in the wash. I used cellular blankets the first month or so then when baby could wriggle a bit more went into sleeping bags which are really useful and much easier then blankets (but would still use blankets for a newborn)

I thought sleeping bags weren't recommended before 6 months because baby could overheat....??

I have bought a 1.5 tog sleeping bag and was going to use these (varying togs) the whole way through to 18 months but I think I'm going to go with cot sheets instead. I'll probably buy 3 or 4 fitted sheets and 2 or 3 cot sheets plus some cellular blankets.

As for clothes..well up to 3 months I have absolutely loads of things but that's because I've been given things on top of what I'd bought myself. Vest and sleepsuit wise I have about 20 of each from newborn through to 3 months plus 4 or 5 cardigans for each age group upto 3 months.

I also have items up to 9 months that I'd picked up in the sales so I'm calling it a day now for clothes shopping as I am bound to get more given or bought!!

At least I won't be washing everyday or worrying about running out....!
